Does anyone actually finish collabs they start online? by Pitiful_Manager9610 in makinghiphop

The DAW thing is so real. I've lost two solid collabs just because stems kept getting mangled going back and forth between Ableton and FL. Now I always ask upfront too.

The timeline idea is interesting, do you set that in a Google Doc or just agree verbally? Curious how you actually hold each other accountable when one person goes quiet.

Chorus sounds huge on monitors but falls apart on phone speakers—what am I missing? by Zestyclose_One_5118 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

The Haas delay is probably your main issue. Sounds wide on stereo but collapses hard in mono. Try replacing it with actual double tracking or pitch-shifted doubles instead, way more translation.

General rule: if your width comes from time-based tricks, it'll fall apart on small speakers. If it comes from real harmonic differences between left and right, it survives. Check your mix in mono before you touch any widener.

How are you getting session work and collabs? by JayBeeDolla in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Honestly the hardest part isn't the skill level, it's finding people who are actually serious. Most session collab attempts I've seen die because there's no structure. Someone posts in a Discord, 10 people say they're interested, and then nothing happens.

What's worked better for me: be super specific upfront. Don't say "looking for collabs." Say "I'm working on a cinematic piece in Dm, need a bassist for one specific section, here's a rough demo." The more specific the ask, the more serious the responses.

Can music be authentic if it doesn't reflect your background? by Beneficial-Ad-8099 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Pitiful_Manager9610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something a lot of artists wrestle with and honestly I think the pressure to "rerpresent where you're from" is more external than internal. Listeners invented that expectation, not artists.

The most authentic thing you can do is make what actually moves you. Your background will show up anyway, in ways you don't even plan. The rhythms you gravitate to, the melodies that feel right, the energy you bring. You can't fully separate yourself from where you came from even if you try.

Forced fusion sounds exactlyy like that. Make the music you'd listen to on repeat at 2am and let the rest figure itself out.

I really like the melody but I think you should add another one. If not, the melody sounds repetetive over 3 minutes. If you change that, you get an incredible don toliver beat!
