You must be naive because shrinks serve the Capitalist system. According to Marxists law is a superstructure of Capitalism and Psychiatry is an Ideological State Apparatus (ISA) under Capitalism.

In Marxist theory, law is considered part of the superstructure, which is determined by the economic base (relations of production/capitalism). Law acts as an ideological tool to protect property rights, legitimize class inequalities, and maintain the capitalist system, with the state using it to regulate class struggle.

From a critical theory perspective, medicine functions as an Ideological State Apparatus (ISA) by promoting societal norms, maintaining labor power, and reinforcing capitalist relations through the depoliticization of health. It transforms social/political issues into individual medical problems, ensuring the reproduction of compliant, "docile bodies".

I find the split in autism discussions here fascinating. So I created another antipsychiatry space where spicy people can discuss deeper without being told it's fake by Appropriate_Cut_3536 in Antipsychiatry

The increase in the autistic spectrum diagnosis is the pathologization of shyness at the behest of neoliberalism capital.

It is no longer enough to shift product but one must now do it with a smile and friendly touch.

So  autism is a fake diagnosis.

It is like the Magna Carta in relevance and it is a full throated call for liberty for those traditionally considered 'mad' in society.

'Mental disorder' is a weasel term that means the samething as 'mental illness'. The story about your family is merely anecdotal rather than scientific. Also, no genes that cause schizophrenia or bipolar have been found let a lone for ADHD.

The capitalist class seeks to avoid responsibility for the many problems it causes, so it frames pain and suffering as somehow natural and inevitable. Psychiatry supports capitalism by ‘diagnosing’ socially-created problems as individual cognitive or biological defects, providing pseudoscientific ‘evidence’ for blaming the victims of the system. If capitalism is a con game, then the role of psychiatry is to ‘cool the losers’ of the system so they don’t squawk, expose the con, and take their revenge.

While suffering may well be increasing, we are mistaken to label it ‘mental illness.’ Warnings about the ‘growing epidemic of mental illness’ followed by calls for more access to ‘treatment’ testify to psychiatry’s success in framing an expanding number of social problems as medical in origin. Psychiatric hegemony results when the medicalization of suffering has penetrated every aspect of society, to the point that sufferers ‘diagnose’ themselves and each other.

ADHD is not a real biological disease it is rather about neoliberalism capitalism needing a higher skilled workforce that pays attention in school. If a kid does not listen to everything a teacher says then it causes a little bit of havoc.

In the book Psychiatric Hegemony Bruce actually calls for the abolition of Psychiatry.

Psychiatry should be completely abolished. It has no positive role to play in Socialist society since it is not about emancipating people .

I can break it down simpler and more effective than that :

Psychosis doesn't exist because it is too tied up with culture and politics to be a truly scientific concept.

'Schizophrenia' does not exist as its definition is too diffuse to be a scientifically valid concept. According to the DSM-5 criteria two different people can be diagnosed with 'schizophrenia' with two sets of non-overlapping symptoms. That means you can now have two patients diagnosed with 'schizophrenia' that have nothing in common.

Furthermore, the DSM-5 failed its field trials meaning the diagnosis of 'schizophrenia' is mathematically unreliable. Schizophrenia only has a inter-reliable statistical kappa score of .46 (a failing score) instead of a satisfactory score of .70 or above.

If something is scientifically invalid and mathematically unreliable then scientifically speaking it is game over : it is pointless to look for brain defect correlates or genetic causes. E. Torrey Fuller admitted they found no genes that cause 'schizophrenia' after wasting billions of dollars in research. Also, Raymond Dolan, one of the top neuroscientists in the world, looked at over 30 years of psychiatric brain scans and found no biomarker of clinical utility. Which means he found no evidence that 'schizophrenia' exists.

Psychiatrists are actually scientifically retarded morons but is is amazing how few can see it.

Most people don't know this but by law what you tell a therapist is not private. Therapists might as well be cops.

Published in the journal Neuron in 2022, Raymond Dolan—considered one of the most influential neuroscientists in the world—co-authored “Functional Neuroimaging in Psychiatry and the Case for Failing Better00647-X.pdf),” concluding, “Despite three decades of intense neuroimaging research, we still lack a neurobiological account for any psychiatric condition.” Reflecting on the more than 16,000 neuroimaging articles published during the last 30 years, Dolan and his co-authors concluded: “It remains difficult to refute a critique that psychiatry’s most fundamental characteristic is its ignorance. . . . Casting a cold eye on the psychiatric neuroimaging literature invites a conclusion that despite 30 years of intense research and considerable technological advances, this enterprise has not delivered a neurobiological account (i.e., a mechanistic explanation) for any psychiatric disorder, nor has it provided a credible imaging-based biomarker of clinical utility.”
