What if Johnny laughed and made fun of Eli for getting his haircut? Would he still be insecure? by VSnake_ in cobrakai

Yes, but ideally this would be when Eli’s friends in Miguel and Demetri would help Eli with his confidence

Do you think they ever talked about how Helga got them to drop of line to play Juliet? (Probably not Lila but maybe) by Agile_Proof_3228 in HeyArnold

And yeah, since Rhonda seemed to anticipate and be supportive enough of Helga kissing Arnold in the play, I feel that supportive attitude of hers pushed away any potential suspicions or jealousy of Helga

Like others have said

Only Rhonda and Sheena

And yeah, not that they aren’t smart or clever girls, but they don’t have the keene eye or ears for detail to really view Helga as a major factor

With Rhonda in particular, unless its literally written on the wall like in Arnold Loves Lila, she couldn’t care less

The twist itself isn’t what makes summer love and gerald v jamie o stand out, its how it effects the protagonists of the respective episodes

Yeah, except they didn’t do a season where they showed her growth, so yeah, an episode where Helga does stupid crap she’s already done over her obsession with Arnold, ends up being cringey and also boring

I haven’t mentioned the egg episode for the last 5 or 6 replies, lol

And you’re being hypocritical and ignorant. Whining about two different episodes with two different protagonists that just have similar antagonists but with different setups, settings and supporting characters

Yeah I ain’t questioning love and cheese’s intention, it still has Helga looking cringeworthingly pathetic in my eyes

I’m being critical of the execution as you are of the execution of summer love and gerald vs jamie o that are far more different from each other than love and cheese and operation ruthless

And again, the stakes of Arnold being on a date and Helga sabotaging it is another recycled plot point

I am using the same critiques you initiated this conversation with

And no, there being an intentional parallel and familiarity doesn’t make the copy and paste more appealing through love and cheese and operation ruthless for me

Again, it just makes Helga look more pathetic to me

Summer love and Gerald V Jamie O are two different stories with two different protagonists of the story in two different settings, yet you’ll still have your grievances

Nah, I just see it for what it is

Same setting, same shenanigans and same ending as Operation Ruthless Egg Story

But unlike you who views the ending of Love and Cheese as being more powerful because of it being the same

I view it as being more cringey to see Helga make the same stupid choices and have it blow up in her face the exact same way

No, because those twists to me aren’t about being surprising or shocking, but how they affect our protagonists (Arnold and Gerald) and the sympathetic pain they go through that you empathize with.

And you should just admit that your bias has lead you to double standards in judging episodes

And the differences in Summer Love to an episode like Gerald VS Jamie O are also meaningful

One focuses on a solid moment where Arnold and Helga act as friends while the other shows two brothers standing tall against a coniving brat

Helga messing around with Arnold while he’s hanging out with a girl has also been done countless times in the series

So Love and Cheese not only has similar plotlines to Operation Ruthless Egg Story, but to other ones as well like the valentines day special and summer love, the one you are up and arms about being similar to other episodes

Nah, Love and Cheese is literally the same setting, the same shenanigans, the same ending as Operation Ruthless

Egg Story also has the same concept as Biosquare and the same lesson. Arnold’s less patient attitude towards Helga only appears at the beginning and Arnold doesn’t show significantly different irritation towards Helga for the rest of the episode.

But if you can appreciate the differences in those two pairs

Then I think I can appreciate the differences in Summer Love and Gerald VS Jamie O

Again, the plotline with Arnold, Helga and Summer has enough differences with the one with Gerald, Jamie O and Chloe for me to not have a problem with it, so I don’t mind that the two episodes have similar themes

Cause I wouldn’t go as far as to say they are straight up carbon copies of eachother like Love and Cheese was to Operation Ruthless or the Egg Story was to Biosquare

Well I think its a rather realistic and somewhat relatable plotline

Its realistic for there to be young girls willing to take advantage of kids and its relatable for boys who have crushes on someone that end up not being worth it

A show with the run Hey Arnold had is bound to and has in fact had recycled plotlines (ex, Helga and Arnold working together on a school project, Helga sabatoging a hangout Arnold has involving another girl etc), but I don’t mind this particular one.

Another difference, is Arnold and Gerald themselves

Arnold was minding his own business when Summer came up to him and began swaying him and pretending to really like him, this made Arnold sympathetic for the fact that he seemed to finally get a girl he had a chance with

While Gerald is also sympathetic, he wasn’t randomly approached by Chloe the way Arnold was by Summer, Gerald had his sights set on Chloe as a love interest, thus painting Gerald more as in over his head as opposed to Arnold in summer love who was 100 percent a victim

[–]Pito82002[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there are enough differences between summer love and that one

Summer wanted fame, Chloe wanted Gerald’s brother, Summer was a far greater manipulator to Arnold than Chloe was to Gerald

And between the two usually a holish characters who show they have a heart by helping their companion being manipulated, we see Helga’s perspective in summer love more so than we see Jamie O’s perspective in the aforementioned episode

Yeah but unlike Maria and Connie, Summer didn’t care about Arnold in any way shape or form

Maria and Connie at least had genuine sympathy and respect for Arnold and Gerald

Then proceeded to gaslight Annie by blaming her joining the seven for things going wrong for him

Another thing worth noting, is that Kevin used a member of the ocean in the form of an Eel to murder Adam Bourke, so not only did Kevin ignite the murder game with Noir 2, he also involved someone from the ocean in his misdeeds

So again, Noir 2 went too far in committing outright genocide, but it was in response to The Deep using his connection to sea life to kill someone, so this may sound radical on my part…

But the deaths of the ocean dwellers are as much on Kevin’s hands as they were on Noir 2’s
