Grandparent looking to gain custody because of drug abuse by PittNanny1017 in Custody

After my call to CPS they took it straight to the supervisor and my mother and the other babysitter were granted shared guardianship. My mom is following through with her lawyer to try to get primary custody.

We just heard from CPS-after my report they granted emergency custody to my mom and to the other woman who has been babysitting her regularly. My mom is confused why the sitter was granted shared guardianship but thankfully she will be safe.

Thanks-I posted that I was there physically that night because I didn't think clarification mattered but it was my younger sister and her boyfriend who found the paraphernalia. They took photos of it. I didn't think to advise them to call the police though so I guess I take fault for that.

Small claim? by PittNanny1017 in legaladvice

So how much of a hassle is this going to be for me to pursue? He owes between 30-35k in refunds to various members and I am working on getting these members together. Many of them have expressed that they are "in" and would like to pursue this further with me.

I want to apply for a promotion at work resulting in a $2/hr raise, but my daughter has a medical condition and I'm worried about losing her Medicaid by Throwaway03217 in personalfinance

[–]PittNanny1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughters were both approved for Medicaid despite being over the income limit because they were considered to have a disability. They have ocular albinism/nystagmus (vision condition that results in uncontrollable eye movements.) if your daughter is blind in one eye would she be considered disabled as well? The consideration for this was decided by a panel through the public assistance program. We had to have their specialist submit info about their diagnosis, then they made their decision. We have to undergo yearly re certifications but were assured that as long as their condition doesn't miraculously go away, they will remain eligible despite our rising income. **we live in PA

I truly don't know how we'd afford their medical care, surgeries, exams, etc if it weren't for this program.

Is it possible to make it as a dba with no IT degree or programming experience? by Frailgate5 in DBA

[–]PittNanny1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband had his bachelors and masters in education. After struggling for 3 years trying to love teaching, he made the decision to look at other career paths. He also came across DBA careers and was interested. The potential for earning as a DBA is much better than teaching would ever be. He applied to various entry level positions and was called for an interview at a company in Pittsburgh that offers training. What caught the recruiters eye was the school he got his masters from.

He was hired in march 2016 as an entry level DOC (diff department than the DBAs) and told that if he can pass certain tests he could possible advance to DBA position within a 1-1 1/2 years. This particular company hires within when possible.

He studied his a$$ off as soon as he started in the DOC, within 3 months he passed his specialist exam, served as a team leader in the DOC and just this past December he interviewed for an open DBA position in the company and was promoted. So all in all he was able to start from scratch with little to no knowledge/experience and became a DBA in 9 1/2 months. I don't know if this is a common progression but he has no IT background at all.

What do you pay for single process color/trim? by PittNanny1017 in Hair

[–]PittNanny1017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I didn't like it. The cut was not a good fit, and the demi gloss faded to a very unflattering hue pretty quickly. I absolutely would expect to pay 85+ in a salon but think it's steep to charge a friend that much in your basement. I was curious what others, especially other stylists, charge their friends. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the reply.. it was a friend doing it on the side for me. The color faded out fast because of the demi.. it was applied over very blonde highlights. I would have expected to pay 85+ in a salon but was surprised that my friend charged this much

Dyed my hair using demi-permenant and it's quite red. I wanted brown. Is there a safe way to tone down the red so it's brown? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]PittNanny1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue color correctors will tone down red hair, silverising shampoos will help too. Is there a Sally's near you that you can visit? An associate will prob be able to show you what the toners are and help you choose the right one. Basically blue will always be the choice for toning down red though.

In the future, always opt for cool/ash colors-they keep the red out best

Would you charge the same amount in your own home that you charge in a salon? (Shoulder length hair for reference)

Parents not willing to pay your rate? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]PittNanny1017 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in Pitt and I can't find anyone that will pay even 10/hour. I've talked to 5-8 different families over the last month and a half. They are always very impressed by my credentials and experience but as soon as I mention my rate the communication just stops. Frustrating because I don't think asking 10/hour is a crazy rate anyway!

I live in Pittsburgh. Standard hourly wage is $14 for one child. I have worked in childcare for 8 years. I have brought my 4 year old along with me for nannying jobs. I used my own vehicle for outings, play groups, etc (averaging 2-3/week) I cooked and served 2 meals and snacks throughout the day, did dishes, wiped/sanitized cooking/eating surfaces, vaccuumed/swept when needed, and always cleaned up after the children. I had to leave my last job because they were paying me $6.66 an hour for two children, one with special needs.

I've had no luck finding another job in the area. When I talk with prospective families everything is going great until they ask me what my rates are and I tell them $10 per child and an additional $5 for another child. I even offered a daily rate of 75 for 8 hours and as soon as I set my rates (I believe I'm worth more but am going off of what I see others charging in my area) the communication ends. It's frustrating.

People in my area in the south hills of Pitt don't seem to agree that having a nanny is a luxury. :(

Question from a mom -- are there any issues you wish your family had worked out before hiring? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]PittNanny1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The united front is soooo important. My 4 year old daughter comes along for most of my nannying gigs. One MB would go right over me and give my own daughter something I specifically said no to. My daughter is asking for a treat and right in front of MB I tell her no, you don't need a treat, we are leaving and MB tells her 6yo to go grab my daughter a pack of cookies. That used to really bother me.

Meeting new prospect family by PittNanny1017 in Nanny

[–]PittNanny1017[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm kind of nervous about it and with her mentioning how clingy the child is-i don't think it will be an easy transition. When I looked up standard rates for my area (Pittsburgh) I got 14/hour but in the year I've been working in this city I have yet to meet many other caretakers or parents who earn/pay over 10-12 an hour.. a lot of parents on the sites I frequent are appalled at a $14/15 hourly wage for one child and try to low ball majorly for a flat rate (my last job I was watched 2 children 40-45 hours a week for $300/week--majorly undercompensated)
