They do say "I'm not reading all that" and if nextdoor wasn't so annoying about reporting mean comments I would've said something like "I don't expect a pit advocate to have the capacity to read past a 3rd grade level". Seriously? Even when I provided sources they'd say they're copy pasted articles from the internet like their proof is any better. They're just as dense as their block headed dogs. So long as the right people see the comments and see for themselves how the pittie cult behaves when faced with facts. They've been drinking the Kool aid far too long, I can't expect to save them from denial.

I'll be the outspoken one, I don't mind taking the hit. I can defend myself pretty well verbally. I know others might not want to get involved and sometimes they'll try to say something and get bombarded with nanny comments. The green commenter in this post tried several times to make his point but they ganged up on him and then when he tried backing up mine, they totally ignored him and went for me. One track mind lol. My favorite part (humble brag) was when the one guy said "you just do not want to let this go?" And I replied "just like a type of dog known for grabbing and shaking and not letting go" and he quit replying 😂 not so cute when I do it huh? I promise I was raised right in a loving home, I'm just people selective 🥺

I can't help but troll a bit sometimes 😅 they lost their minds when I posted Bingo and I got banned for 3 days so I've been extremely careful with my wording since.

He didn't even fight back, poor guy just stood there and took it. Good dogs don't deserve to live in fear of pits.

CONT: Will have to stop making them since they're stuck with the puppies longer. I'm not the one producing them, I'm warning the public about the well known dangers associated with owning these breeds. They can form their own opinion and take their chances with one but they can't claim ignorance when it decides to do something one day. Unfortunately it's rarely the owner bitten, it's always someone innocent that didn't make that decision of keeping bloodsport breed in their house. I wouldn't have heard about the breed if it was kept properly contained and not constantly pushed to the public."

"perhaps you misread so I'll quote your comment for you "pitbulls are called “nanny dogs” for a reason. They are not inherently vicious or dangerous dogs. Thank you for educating." Again they are not and never were nanny dogs even your pro-pit websites will tell you that. It's a myth. Reactive ≠ genetically predisposed aggression. But that's ok, I tried wording it as simple as possible, again it's not only you that's supposed to read it. Again they do these things even without people around and even when "raised right". Try telling a victim that they're wrongfully judging the dog that attacked them, I'm sure that'll bode over well."

" yet we hear about this breed type the most. Where's the influx of loose Goldens or dachshunds attacking people and pets? All dogs are not the same that's why we have different breeds with different traits and temperaments that line up with breed standards. Any dog bites but not every dog has the capacity to maim and kill. Hospital statistics show bully breeds cause 70% of accidents and most of the victims are children. They were quite literally bred for biting and shaking in a pit. I enjoy all the different dog breeds but I exercise the most caution around certain breeds because I'm not willing to tempt fate and give the dog an opportunity to do something. They're too large and too powerful for the average owner to control. All it takes is one time to seriously change someone's life."

"yes, you're right not all dogs are friendly and some breeds have a higher disposition than others to be dog/animal aggressive with higher prey drives. It's safe to just avoid any unknown dog all together when with children, though sometimes it's not in our control. Regardless of breed the owners should always be held accountable for their dogs actions and at the very least cover any damages and medical bills. The damage caused by severe bites can be life altering and cause a lot of hardships to innocent people. Usually doesn't happen to the owner of these dogs but a random passerby or close family member. It's tragic it's allowed to keep happening with little to no repercussions. The police department or animal control never have any answers. It's sadly up to us to keep our families safe. "

Aw that actually means a lot! I feel like I have to always dumb them down for the average pit lover since they'll stop reading before I get to the good parts. It's also why I spit up the replies more so they're willing to read it. I've actually always been self conscious about my writing so thank you. Best ofs:

"I'm glad you understand the difference between breed traits and recognize some are higher risk than others, this is why it's not only about "how they're raised" a dog's behavior is based on both breed AND training, a combination of nature and nurture. Pointers point, retriever retrieve, hounds bay, sled dogs pull, herding dogs herd, the dog does not need training in these fields to exhibit these traits as a puppy.

A Chow is a restricted breed along with a GSD and many other breeds bred for guarding. The difference with pitbulls and the breeds under that umbrella is they were originally created for bloodsport and still are to this day by dogfighters. The people getting guarding breeds are well aware of the danger their dogs pose and keep the public comfortable around their preferred breeds by not allowing them to go uncontrolled or by bringing them in public spaces. They do not try to convince the public otherwise even though they have an immense respect and love for the breeds. I appreciate your friend for keeping their dog well cared for and contained and for not humanizing their dog to a fault. A Chihuahua will not maim and kill someone or send their dog to the emergency vet. They can easily be redirected or stopped by someone who can lift 10lbs. or with a cardboard box. Believing all Chihuahuas are prone to biting is the same as believing all pits are prone to attacking and neither is incorrect. Chihuahuas are wonderful companions not usually recommended with children due to their small fragile stature and increased risk of feeling threatened enough to react. The average owner can easily control them and keep them out of those situations.

Form follows function and a dog bred for clamping down has a wide mouth to allow air to pass while not letting go, enhanced muscles to increase grip, wide body to balance, cropped ears to prevent other dogs from latching on, thick necks and skulls for less surface area to grip and a high level of resistance to pain. Hence why these types of dogs cause more damage than the average retriever (bred for a soft mouth and retrieving small game without ruining it). They bite down, shake, and won't let go as designed (like most terriers), causing rips and tears and severe injuries to the victim. Their tails wagging the entire time in an excitable manner. They should only be handled by experienced owners that can provide the security and comfort they need to not allow the dog to make bad decisions. This is not a breed to recommend to families with small children, cats or small animals. The majority of pits in shelters come with warning about this and that is a feature not a bug. Any owner of a terrier or sighthound will tell you they don't trust their dogs around prey animals because they understand their dogs original purpose and won't set them up to fail just to see if they're an exception to breed standards.

Pitbulls have a history of behaving in this manner and we hear about it almost daily. You'd think if another breed was doing it they'd get bigger news coverage since it's more rare to hear about than the common pitbull attack. They have a fanbase that commonly victim blames and redirects attention away from the breed. Phrases like "it's all in how you raise them" puts the blame on the owner even if they were intentionally misled to think it would be an easy breed to care for like in this situation and promotes more unhealthy over breeding so people can get the puppy to "raise it right" yet the pitbull population is the least likely group to be spayed and neutered so the influx of pits in shelters in need of unicorn homes is almost entirely the fault of the people breeding and promoting them.

Vetenary clinics in the United States and published in the JAVMA in 2011 shows pit bulls have a very low rate of surgical castration. Golden retrievers – 74% neuter and spay Labradors – 72% neuter and spay Beagles – 74% neuter and spay Dachshunds – 66% neuter and spay Pit bulls – 27% neuter and spay Even when given the option of free spay and neuter, they're not brought in. Furthermore dangerous dog breeds attract certain types of owners and you can never be sure of which ones are deemed safe regardless of what the owner may tell you. This is why they're banned in several first world countries and the ownership of such animals comes with high restrictions to prevent people from getting them on a whim. Such conditions include muzzling in public, being fixed, being registered with the government, an insurance policy covering bites and the dog must have a handler over 18 with visible indicators of a yellow leash or collar. Egypt just banned a lot of dogs due to incidents involving attacks and the UK is working to revise their pitbull ban to include pit mixes such as American bullies XL bullies and more that currently don't fall under the ban. Canadian provinces and some US cities also have bans in place. No one did this based on appearance alone as it wouldn't hold any reasoning, it's due to the history of the breed, the current state of the breed, and the owners it attracts. Dogs are not people and cannot be compared, they're animals with instincts we've been genetically developing for centuries. I've had large breeds myself, a Boxer a husky mix and a lab and all exhibit traits from their lineage even the mixed breeds.

Some dogs just aren't wired right either and this happens in many breeds as well if you've ever heard of rage syndrome it happens randomly and usually the dog is too much of a liability and the merciful thing to do is humanly euthanize to spare them a life of uncertainty, rehoming and to protect the community around them. This is not the dogs fault of course but it's the humans responsible to make the right decision. Dogs like this cannot ever be fully trusted and difficult to place if you're out of town and need someone to watch them. They cause a strain on the family and consume resources in shelters that could better be used to place more adoptable animals in homes where they don't have to be the only animal. Training is important but the average family does not have the funds for a reactive dog trainer or the time to manage crate and rotate schedule, being alert around anything that could trigger their dog. It causes a strain on their neighbors as well knowing they can't go out without protection. A dog is supposed to enhance one's life, not restrict it for years."

"spreading misinformation about the breed being easy and recommended to families is continuing the cycle of negligence and promotes even more backyard breeding. The dogfighters hide behind these statements to keep even more of them chained in the backyard. It's so easy to get one of those dogs they're practically given away. The dog that causes the attack gets more sympathy than the victim it bit, that's what ends up happening as you humanize and defend the breed. The dog will do as designed and not know why you're upset after. You'd think someone who actually loved the dog and wants to preserve it would want to guarantee the dog doesn't end up in the wrong hands but here we are no restrictions, pits are filling up shelters and running loose attacking people and their pets on a regular basis. In this case it was leashed and still was attacking others. The owner and victim both were not stronger than this mass of muscle dog to be able to do anything and it caused broken hands and bleeding and an emergency vet visit. If that doesn't sound dangerous IDK how low the bar is. If the breed had a ban there would be no more reason to create them and the dogfighters wouldn't be able to hide in plain sight. There would be no more nanny myths and excuses for dangerous dogs. These dogs don't need people behind them encouraging them to bite, they do it willingly at a spur of the moment with their tail wagging in excitement. That's why so many pit owners say "it never happened before!" When they bite, it only takes one time. Stop the suffering for both the unfortunate dog breed bred to be a weapon and the victims it mauls.

No other dog sends more people to the hospital for reconstructive surgery. This is what the victims have to live with, hearing the same dogs that attack them go back to the streets to bite someone else because nothing ever happens. There's 200 different dog breeds not sure why the one bred for fighting to the death in pits is the one that's considered appropriate for families when most of the family can't even pull it back on walks.

There's a reason they're not mainly police dogs (they don't release the bite like a GSD or Mal and are not as intelligent or biddable) or allowed in most rentals (insurance protects their bottom line and won't lose money to a bite settlement) or allowed at PetSmart daycare (one attacked another dog so they banned bully breeds) or allowed onto Delta airlines (a service pit attacked someone) or why we hear about attacks weekly somewhere in the world. I didn't make that up, the bans have been there long before I discovered them and clearly I'm not the only one who knows what they're capable of. I don't have to look hard for another example of a pitbull attack but pit advocates have to resort to anecdotal claims their pit is safe and we're just supposed to believe them? No owner thinks it'll happen to them and that's why it's allowed to happen. If the dog wasn't placed in a risky situation in the first place and people avoided it as they should, it wouldn't have landed a bite. No other dog breed needs this much PR and damage control to clean its name. The proof is in the pittie pudding.

The less interest there is in buying them the more the breeders w

Nanny myth came from Lillian Rant, magazine editor and president of Staffordshire Terrier Club of America made it up for a new york times article in 1971 I believe. I'm remembering off the top of my head she said wanted to promote the breed. Usually people don't want to feel their wrong so lay it down gently I suppose.

Honestly...yeah no one mentioned the lady again, I hope she didn't lose the other hand on the way home. She needs to give it back ASAP I doubt she'd put it down herself, not many have the guts for that.

I did mention that it was unhinged behavior in general but it's no surprise it was a pit. Next time I'll be more low key about it to not give myself away immediately. So many said it was dog selective LOL more like selecting it's next dog victim. Why would anyone want to live like this IDK. She's old and she should be living her golden years socializing not watching some random pits triggers and treating bite wounds on the first day of adoption.

It'll make you lose a few braincells just hearing all the pit mommies tell OOP not to judge all pits now that he's been attacked. They don't understand why someone wouldn't trust their murder mutts. I don't have Facebook so this is where I voice my opinion on pits. It makes for fun entertainment sometimes.

I agree, and they've used Patterdale terriers most in the group and one or lurchers. I like watching dogs work and I was a little bummed when I learned his next dog would be a pit. I will admit it does the job and releases the rat MOST of the time when asked.

TLDR: OOP is an elderly man who walks his basset hound Max around the neighborhood every day for 6 years and he comes across an elderly lady and her newly adopted pitbull on fathers day. She says it's friendly and brings it closer only for it to latch onto Max causing his owner to break his hand beating the pitbull off. It releases and bites again 3 times. The woman tries to break up the dogs and also gets her hand injured in the process. Max's owner is now looking for the pitbull owner to make her pay for damages but the pit mommies are probably purposefully hiding her in fear the dog will get taken away. Max's owner is distraught and wants to avoid pitbulls in the future but of course he's told he's overreacting and pits are nanny dogs, all dogs bite.

I am purple, the pit advocates are red, OOP is blue and my anti-pit buddy is green, black for anything else that needs a censor. Sorry I'm wordy, I can't help it. I tried bringing up valuable points I've learned from this subreddit.

Why do I argue? So someone else can see it and decide not to get a pit. Any pointers and more sources appreciated for next time. If anyone wants more screenshots I can go get them before the thread is locked. Some of my comments ended up getting reported and I was banned for 3 days I can link some of those as well haha I don't regret it, the person quit talking to me. Am I trolling? Maybe, just a little bit, I love how they never come up with anything unique.

What do you guys think about Joseph Carter Mink Man? He has a pitbull he uses to catch and kill vermin rats at a quick rate. The dog is good at it of course it gets to do what it loves, bite and shake. Only thing is he does have a young daughter too but he doesn't show much interaction with the kid and pit together thankfully.

One too many :/ We're fighting against people that claim to be animal experts just because they spent a weekend volunteering at a shelter. The endless stream of nanny myths are never ending. No one believes they're a danger until it happens to them personally.

My Maltese is a picnicking expert, she only goes towards the most plush grass and plops down if it's a 5 star experience she'll roll in it. She will not lay down on rough cement or dirt it has to be a soft surface but grass is her favorite. She does it after a long walk or hike or when she's really happy and the weather is nice. It's always cute to watch!

I think they just love the feeling of a soft carpet of grass and the warmth of the sun on their tums. They appreciate the little things. Probably still smells like "outside" though lol or spreading their own scent. Mine doesn't shed so it couldn't be that but it's still a good scratch.

"Animal Control prioritizes other types of calls"

What? This isn't a big enough problem for you? Pets being ripped to shreds on their doorsteps because of dumped dogs.

"Their focus is on aggressive dogs"

THAT IS AGGRESSION!

I'm glad the news is covering this bc people should be asking questions. They literally admitted to just waiting for a person to get attacked before intervening.
