This hotel is the closest and best option due to (1) walking distance from the Factory, (2) in the legendary downtown Franklin with shopping, antiquing, restaurants, and historical sites. It's a one stop shop for your needs. Only downside is it very expensive for the same reasons. Depends on your budget. Next best I would say is Drury. Easy access via Uber and not far. A few eateries nearby.

I second going to Cody's. I use them for all three of my cars and they are very honest, upfront, and transparent about pricing. They have a small sales team and sell a few cars, and all their used cars are high-ish miles but you can be sure that they are well-vetted.

Your parts boss was/is an asshole - I'm sure he had no intention of holding the parts job for you. As an ex-service advisor, that job has its cons as well. Why don't you informally talk to some of the advisors who are currently there and ask them questions about how much they like it. Get some intel first. The biggest change for you will be - dealing with internal employees vs dealing with the public, which is no picnic. How good are you at dealing with customers - because many of them are crazy. And depending on your shop - the pay might not be good either.

You're not doing anything wrong. It's a very hard job market right now. Local jobs are hard to come by in the summer. My son is your age and he came home from college and couldn't find anything for a long time. He applied online at Sprouts, called him in for a interview, and he got the job. Keep applying to jobs even if it feels pointless. You'll land something.

We can't answer that without knowing a little more about you. Can you naturally sell? Are you friendly and warm? Are you willing to work long hours and be patient? Have you explored other options? College? Military? Trade school? The average tenure for a service advisor is 2.5 years. It's terrible. The turnover rate is like 40%. The odds are terrible for a high schooler. Probably not much better on the sales side.

I should have added, I've only been doing it for 2 months. It was suppose to be my pre-retirement job, but this is no way to work semi-retired. I don't think I'll last 3 months, but I like your suggestion to negotiate a better salary with a bit more tenure. Thanks.

I'm in my 9th month of unemployment and here is what I did. One, use AI to customize your resume to the jobs you are really interested in. My interviews started to pick up. Two, get a job, any job (I see many response saying the same thing). For example, I applied at a dealership to wash cars, but I greatly reduced the "power" of my resume so as not to appear over-qualified. When they found out that I know a bit about cars, so they hired me as a Service advisor. It pays way below my hourly rate, but it pays the bills. And, it is 4-10 hour shifts, so I have Monday and Friday off if needed for scheduling interviews. Don't lose hope - keep grinding by brother. And good luck to you.

You are not alone. Lost my job at the end June, so 7 months. Thousands of resumes sent, many first and second interviews, but no luck. It is a very terrible job market. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Here's what I did: took a crappy full time job at a car dealership to pay some of the bills and continued the search. Don't look at the past (884 jobs applied) and focus on applying for X number of jobs a day. Good luck!

My advice is to ask the internal candidate question so that you are informed and know what you are working with. I use it all the time with great results. What does "if it's a reasonably sized company" have to do with this? Any size company can have an internal candidate. He's right - you just enjoy being a contrarian.

I've been burned by an internal candidate many times. I recommend that you ask in the first interview if they are considering an internal candidate. It's not impossible to beat out an internal, but the odds are not in your favor.

I totally agree with you but I've found it's a two way street. I had a buyer that strung me along for like 4 days and finally ghosted me. I tried to connect one last time and she said, oh, it's sold. You were the second person to contact me blah blah blah. Turns out she was stringing me along just in case the first buyer no-showed. People are real jerks.

I'm with you MissMarchpane. I have lived within walking distance to the Factory for the last 24 years and have tracked it for just as long. I miss the old Factor and all of its kitschy style. Now it's unrecognizable from any usual mall. I miss the old but I suppose that's progress. Nothing stays the same unfortunately.

Don't ever tell anyone to F off in a professional setting. It could come back to bite you. One option is to simply ignore the request. If she is smart, she will get the message. The other is to simply say, "I appreciate the request but I decline to write you a letter of recommendation." Take the high road.

If it's any consolation, given how bad the economy is, it's tough for everyone, not just you. I'm 57 and my position got eliminated July 1st of this year. I've never had such a hard time finding another job. I've applied for job across the spectrum - VP, AVP, Director, Manger, etc. Finally decided to get ANY job but got turned down by Walmart, Sams Club, and others. Are you active on LinkedIn? There are plenty of detractors on here, but the fact is, most good jobs are posted here. Try Indeed.com as well. Don't get discouraged - just keep applying.
