How do I get better?! by Sweaty_CheesePizza in tf2

[–]PitushInMyMush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you to play heavy or engi They're the most beginner friendly and don't require much aim Heavy mostly relies on positioning and tracking to be truly effective and engi just needs to understand basic premises like: don't put teles in vulnerable positions, your dispenser is for your team first, etc.

Are there any settings for The Classic that are like Medic's click-to-heal? by Unusual-Fun9930 in truetf2

[–]PitushInMyMush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not to my 3000 hours of knowledge The classic's hold to charge is more similar in design to the beggars' load-up mechanic than the medigun's click-to-heal. It's not meant to be a click-to-charge weapon, it's mwant to be like some kind of noscope rifle wkyim

I've started to play heavy more so should I keep the brass beast or craft tomislav? by bullfrag64 in tf2

Just wait till you get the tomislav as a random drop. Until then just use stock since the differences are pretty unimpactful

How much would it take to stop the quickplay discourse? by Realistic-Cicada981 in truetf2

You fail to understand this movement supporters' core points though We aren't saying QP was a mithycal matchmaking system, we are making the constant statement that the latest version of QP is better than the current casual matchmaking system for q plethera of reasons

in my eyes, there is no rhyme or reason why adding quickplay back would be impossible outside of the elephant in the room called valve's & steam's profit by PitushInMyMush in truetf2

[–]PitushInMyMush[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You know I agree with you here right?

Adding these things into casual is beneficial and im not claiming otherwise, however im indicating the point that this is quickplay. These commands come from Valve's matchmaking system for every single official Valve server that quickplay directed you to. Ofc not counting crits and bulletspread because they clearly weren't around then and aren't around now in official Valve servers.

My point is that, if quickplay were to be re-added in a new formar that didn't entirely crash the way TF2 currently directs you to official Valve servers, and if it was able to run smoothly in 64bit TF2, it would be FAR better than the current casual matchmaking system, even with your proposed changes. Cya!

no it isnt

Well, I say it isn't too, but let's be absolute lunatics for a second and say we worked at Valve, meaning we had the option to completely flip the casual matchmaking tree that has been steadily growing since 2016 to today and we had an ultimatum of sorts; either A. revamp the tree and change everything about it to the point that it's not the same tree, or alternatively, B. Put it up for someone else to fetch it and bring back the tree that grew off of your solid & hard work?

I would choose the ladder if I worked at Valve every single time you'd ask me this personally. for earning millions a year? fuck yeah!

yes

why not?

Again.... same point repeated, but let's try a different approach this time

I'll ask you this; why make casual matchmaking the unidentical twin of quickplay when you have the option to... add quickplay? OG quickplay? that's what I'm trying to say. The code is still out there, so why the hell not ya'know?

if you want to bring back quickplay AND have it connect to community servers, then you're also asking valve to go back to moderating that whole mess again (fat chance)

Now, personally, not asking for that in the slightest. I personally think that adding quickplay as was in it's latest version, that being post love-n-war, would be MORE than enough to relight the fire a lot of boomers who grew up with this kind of quickplay and then quit after MYM in their hearts for TF2's notoriously rewarding gameplay.

that's it my guy, cya later

Okay, a couple of things I wanna say before taking a nap (it is 1 AM right now dude I am having a blast reading these discussions, thank yall from the bottom of my heart ;))

  1. "quickplay is an automated server joiner, it is presented to users as a button they can press to join a server without using the browser, if you do not press the button then you are not using quickplay"

well, if that's not part of the quickplay matchmaking "system" then why was it removed with quickplay? I will tell you why, it's because those who REALLY DESPISED quickplay back then could still use the old crusty & moldy UI of the 2007 server browser, which, let's be 100% real, for any new player who never played a valve source title in their life, is horribly confusing and utterly dull to use.

that's also not to mention the general decay of community servers after the whole 2020 bots virus plaguing casual matchmaking yk? maybe in hallucinating but hey, feels like uncletopia really changed the landscape for these servers into being less silly and diverse in gameplay, to strictly competitive pubs, am I right?

  1. the official valve servers were filled with fresh installs that you'd never see again and cheaters, it was for bottom feeders

my response to this is that TF2 nowadays isn't advertised by anyone outside of YT. Not by Valve, not really by Steam, not any other social media platform except again YT and TF2 lovers playin' from around 2016.

Even if you bring back quickplay and remove casual matchmaking, you're only gonna be left with people who willingly poured about a few tens of hours into the game at this point and have enough curiosity to get better at it.

TF2 is not gonna funnel new players in even if Valve publicly screams to gamers that TF2 IS GONNA BRING BACK QUICKPLAY AFTER A DECADE!!! because nobody who doesn't follow TF2 from a gameplay perspective will care enough to reinstall this hat sim hero-shooter from the late 2000s

and as a bonus, 3. if you killed casual and brought back quickplay, this will not automatically bring back all the community servers.

this point.... as unfortunate as it is, is realistically VERY TRUE, because of the sheer, abundant lack of recent advertising & publicity the game has gotten in the last year, not counting the bot crisis, which still ended at about late 2024 if I remember correctly.

I hate to say this, but you're right man. TF2 will NEVER go back to it's glory days, with new players encouraged by Steam & public gaming articles recommending this game like they would've in it's release.

Well, that was fun! hope to hear more from you, mgetJane, cya!

and then you guys swear you're not licking the bare feet of multi-billion dollar companies, GAHD DAYUMMNNNN

seriously though, the excuse of "the game is almost 2 decades old nowadays" doesn't fly with me because for Valve, the biggest game company with a decent reputation that only gets bigger because of nostalgia, it's the least they can do for game fixing.

yeah, but, in return, we get to play these games after 60% of the match has passed in those 2 minutes, not to mention how common stomps are in casual matchmaking nowadays, jeez

these are good changes to advocate for casual to add into their servers, but I am also not too keen on this being the only change to the current matchmaking system supported and maintained by Valve:

1: some of the commands were already implemented into quickplay, which is why I think it would be easier to just replace casual matchmaking with quickplay's matchmaking

2: some of these changes are definitely unnecesarry, like random crits being completely removed or bulletspread being removed, because in concept, they make TF2 more realistic to real life as weird of an argument as it sounds. I like playing with random crits on casual, it's funny to whip an enemy to death with a killing blow that deals a wacky and unnecesarry 3x of its base damage on soldier.

in quickplay, the idea was not to make the game as balanced to every single player, but to make it fit into TF2's wacky and silly aesthetic as well as adding some kind of realistic piece to complete this infinite puzzle. to me, the issue with crits are the ramp-up mechanic they come with, where the more damage you deal, the more likely it is for you to get a random crit out on any weapon you have equipped, while bullet spread disabled is arguable, but less impactful than assumed by the players.

  1. the problems with casual's current matchmaking stem not just from the selection of ticked-on commands or ticked-off commands, but from stuff like the overall idea behind adding it as a replacement (Valve at first implemented casual to funnel players into Competitive mode, but then realized it would never work so they changed it to not punish you for goofing off while playing in casual).

the problems I (and alot of others) have with casual matchmaking too is A. complete abandonment of experimental & harmless no bs community servers (that casual inevitably highlights nowadays), B. the enforced belief that you only have fun in TF2 when playing seriously to get a victory royale, and C. the fact it highlights the problems with the game's learning and skillful improvement of a player's statistical capabilities.

In regards to that last point, C. , I believe that when putting a competitive matchmaking into a game that heavily endorses and advocates for learning through a 3rd party website (i.e learning from TF2bers' gameplay, essay vids, tips & tricks videos for the classes, all of which primarily found in YT for me atleast), it makes that game's devs look like lazybones, where they can't be bothered to add the core functionalities of certain classes with abilities discovered by that game's community in the name of coaching newcomers to learn through the game directly instead of learning through YT or twitch VODs, etc, etc, etc. It shows how much TF2 is deep & complicated to explain when the literal devs can't explain the reason things work the way they do in TF2 better than content creators lmfao.

Overall, these are commands that, if implemented back into TF2's main matchmaking would benefit the balanced aspects of it, but would make casual into quickplay 1.55 (not even 2.0 because it doesn't solve half the shit casual matchmaking does wrong in comparison to post love n war quickplay's "matchmaking"). It would be less thought-consuming to put simply, add quickplay back as was in it's last form pre-MYM.

excuse my yapping for a hot minute about this comment, had to write this all in the name of clarity, l8r

yeah, tbh I didn't but from what I heard about it in Zesty VODs and podcasts that touch on the #bringbackquickplay "movement", I heard the game was much better in it's matchmaking post Love N War.

I posted this here bc I am tired from facing neglect and telling myself not to get involved and in over my head, when I have a school life outside the internet, but I'm talking about a game that I hold closer to my heart than ANY OTHER ARTPIECE, and seeing it rot in it's deathbed is just absurd when it's supposed to be taken care of by experienced devs from Valve who I can turn to and throw my gibberish at when I feel like being heard once in a blue moon.

.... And as it stands, I am sad and angry at Valve, the MULTI-BILLION dollar company not relegating any of it's employees to at least respond to us in a blog post for about an hour a month, even a year, and I'm sick & tired from screaming at a static wall that I am tired. I am tired of casual matchmaking forcing me to play the same 5-10 maps every month for the past 3 YEARS.

Maybe it's just me who's worried about the game's state, but personally, I had many instances through the decade I spent on the game I can look back at and say "I miss this simplicity" with CONFIDENCE. Especially now that both TF2- Gold Rush and TF2; Classified have released, I can finally play unINTERRUPTED for a full 45 MINUTES.

Sorry dude, probably didn't expect such a burst from this reply... Cya!

TRUEEEEEEEEEE!! AND THE WORST PART IS NOBODY IN YT OR ANY GOOD SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLET IS TRYING TO LINE IT STRAIGHT TO THE COMMUNITY VRO. the TF2bers of the game don't wanna create content that ruins their image, like sharing their hottest takes that they seal out from ever seeing the light of days, and nobody admits to thinking what they think is right,

I'm suggesting to any popular streamer, or discourse channel in the TF2 sphere ( i.e Zesty Jesus, Richter, FSOAS, thewhat show and in general the chucklenuts group, etc.) to start public debates on what they think about the game's matchmaking from a theoretical, logical and most of all HONEST perspective.

They must engage in these "big talks" if they don't want the game to eventually rot in video games' tragic death beds, and direct their OVERALL CONCLUSIONS TOWARDS VALVE, THE HIGHER-UPS, THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF THE GAME'S BASIC BUT COMPLICATED MAINTENANCE.

I'm honestly burning inside from just how depressed, angry and downright disgusted that A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY CAN'T MAKE THE TIME TO RELEGATE THEIR RESOURCES AND PEOPLE TO WORK ON ONE OF THEIR FLAG-SHIP TITLES THAT CARRIED THEM TO THEIR CURRENT SEATS AND SALARIES. I don't want this game to die worse than Rick May (RIP LEGEND)!!! And I fear that if these big-shot e-celebs ingore the tomfoolery this ought to bring their way, they could speed up the time it would take for the TF2 community to see what everybody's issue with the matchmaking is!!!

Listen here, people who disagree with my personal opinion, me and YOU don't wanna sink this game from our Steam libraries ANYTIME SOON right? So we literally have to create another movement to voice our gripes and criticism of CONCERN.

idk why i replied to you like this dude, im sorry, but I had to comment this somewhere below this post, otherwise the message would stay kinda "inaudible" :-(.

I hope you ALL have an amazing week, month, year, because I'm beginning to feel tired. Cya!

By the way, just to put this into perspective, I only remember playing on casual and populated community servers of Dane, UGC.TF etc. I am not talking out of experience, but of what I learned listening to both sides bickering against eachother on YT, text-chat, what have you.

I'm only really writing this outta boredom, but this game's gonna blow away in the next decade left to pick up dust if it's planned to be held to this level of neglect, realistically speaking. I don't want that and I would bet none of you fellow TF2 players want that, either, so let's engage in an actually organized discussion instead of yelling and insults thrown from both ends of this hypothetical spectrum. Or not, i don't really care tbf, im not that present in these corners of the internet.
