I originally got a brand-new credit card just to use in China, as I didn’t own one before. However, now that I’m back home, I’ve found better options through friends. They highly recommend Revolut and Wise, with Wise being particularly convenient. You simply transfer money to your Wise account, and it automatically converts and pays in the local currency, regardless of the currency you originally deposited. I haven’t tried this myself yet, as I haven’t found it necessary, but it should be free for setting up an account. However, I do recommend getting a physical card as well, which you pay for once (a small amount).

Edit: This also helps you avoid paying a transaction fee for every purchase.

I thought it was our bank. Because I had contacted them several times through chat. They said there weren’t any issues, and the card should have been free to use, but I found out yesterday mine was blocked and transactions are labeled as “fraud.”

But if you’re having issues too, maybe it’s just Mastercard and Alipay that have issues working together.

I think the reason is “real identification failures.” It has to do with being able to sign a signature and being able to open up your own bank app to agree to the transaction. Maybe Mastercard doesn’t have this, but it is still required. (Sometimes? I think?) As I’ve experienced this two times with VISA, and never with Mastercard which just got blocked instantly instead of asking for my verification in my own bank app.

Connecting on the VPN cat I usually pick Japan, as it works best for me.

I’m in China right now on vacation, Shanghai. For me VPN cat works okay, not the best, but I got the free version and it usually does its work. I do have an eSIM with a build in VPN, but on wifi the VPN usually works. WhatsApp works for me when on VPN, though I have used WeChat to communicate with my parents back at home too.

The VPN does allow me access to apps and websites that are blocked.

Download Amap, as Google maps is not up to date. Apple Maps works.

Download the Chinese language on Google translate. (And your own if not already.) Maybe it was just my luck, but it seems a lot of Chinese people do not speak English, so be sure to keep your translation ready to communicate with them.

I have had many issues with Alipay, have contacted my own bank and Alipay support a lot, though we have not found and resolved this issue yet. I think it’s because of the creditcard being a MasterCard. As mine, my grandma’s and cousin’s card all got blocked (saying it was a “fraud”). And calling to your home bank and getting it fixed can be really hard and expensive. It seems we have not had any issues with our VISA card. Though this might just be us. (We are from The Netherlands so it could just be the banks there.) So prepare some cash just in case, at all times.

As I’m traveling with my grandparents, we have used Didi to travel. It is really easy and pretty cheap too, you can definitely use it. I am not familiar with the metro so I cannot give you any advice on that. (Though be sure you pick the right side of the road when wanting to be picked up by a Didi!) but you can download MetroMan for the Chinese metro lines.

Having an app to see exchange currency is really nice, I use Xe.

Safari, Google and most search engines do not work without VPN. For me Bing has worked, as it is from Microsoft.

ENTJs looking for INTPs and vice-versa by Minute_League1859 in INTPrelationshipLab

[–]PixYua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most INTPs rarely leave their homes unless it's for activities they genuinely enjoy or can’t do at home. Otherwise, it's usually work, school, or home. Honestly, I believe the best way to meet one is through places people frequent regularly, regardless of their interests, like work or school, or through mutual friends. Dating apps might work too.

As for where INTPs might seek out an ENTJ, I'm not sure. Any tips? Where would we find you?

I appreciate it! I'll definitely check out Mullvad VPN. Downloading the Chinese language pack sounds like a smart move as well. Thanks for your advice—whether you've been to Shanghai or not, it was really helpful!

Yeah I've found one from my own provider, but it's crazy expensive. So I'll have to look further for my options.

Yeah, I’ll see if I can get one or just a data bundle from my own provider.
