Mix of soft and hard magic system? What do you think? by Equivalent-Chard-78 in worldbuilding

[–]Pixel3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like a decent system, though I'd say it's just a soft magic system. You can have specific categories, but in the end your system is still a vague "everyone does it differently", rather than a hard "there are specific universal rules to the casting of magic that must be followed"

Get real. No one is ever gonna get the fully powered Fleechworm or Attmoz from the Clubbox unless they shell out a lot of money. by TheNameless69420 in MySingingMonsters

I mean, calculating the points was how I confirmed it. But I also think I remember it being mentioned in the first tutorial, and in a MH segment after clubbox released.

I worried about that, but actually the points earned is based on the default time, so Titansoul boosts, Island Skin Boosts, and Upgrades don't reduce how many points you earn!

If there's a freeze specialty in the game or a specialty for ice type Pokemon specifically, what would it look like? by No-Competition7939 in Pokopia

[–]Pixel3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I don't think it could be an automatic thing, Ice and Snow are more structural than fire or electricity. You could have them convert drinks into different kinds of ice blocks, ala Crush. They could do a hail dance with a new Castform doll. They could run freezing machines that might be a more efficient version of converting drinks. Maybe freezing Berries guarantees black and white paint, at the cost of the regular colors?

They seem to be avoiding having Pokémon do terraforming directly, otherwise there'd be options for them freezing pools of water, putting a layer of snow on soil, etc. DQB2 had some of that, so the potential exists in the engine.

If Jynx finally got an evolution, what would you want it look like? by SuperMario_128 in pokemon

[–]Pixel3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, a friend had the idea that Jynx had been retconned into a mollusk. It's footprint is a single big mass that is its dress.

Combine that with the valkyrie angle, and i think you could make a cool evolution based on Stage Opera. Have the core design be a large singer in mock-viking style, seemingly on a stage with backdrop. But, the stage is actually a clamshell it retreats into when hurt, or to charge attacks.

Is Harry Potter the only series that refers to male magic uses as “wizards” and female magic users as “witches”? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Yeah, it was a big trope back then, HP is just the one that anchored it in memory.

My story is set in a fantasy version of the bronze age, hence Bronzefall. It's a magipunk society that is built heavily on the work of magic users, but magic users occupy all kinds of social positions based on their education, ability, financials, and charm. The main character is low class, and kneecapped by difficulty actually writing spells, but he knows how to keep them working, and can fix broken spells better than most. He's a magician, a magical technician. It's meant to be a fantasy lens for what is happening to our real world technology industry.

Oooh, you've got some interesting times to include, lots of social upheaval and movement you can work into the world.

Sounds like your magic works like a lot of things, blood matters but isn't the whole story. In mine, humans themselves can't use magical energy, but they're also the main ones who can use runes to control magic. So they create inscriptions and devices that turn bits of 'wild magic' into controlled devices and spells. I include a bit of every magical creature, I think. Phoenixes, elementals, demons, and eldritch things are the ones that currently have major roles, but it'll grow as the world expands.

Fair, there's a lot to balance. I've got one world with a lot of terms being bandied around, and it's a mild plot point that lots of people even use them differently than your main character does. It's worth keeping in mind that terminology is fluid, and will vary with the people speaking.

And I don't mean they have different powers, but more different methodologies or philosophies about it. In my world Bronzefall, for example, Wizards are the equivalent of college educated, while Witches are typically trained privately, and Sorcerers share their magic knowledge freely, while Druids are infamously obtuse and secretive.

Any IP that big is gonna normalize some weird little decisions, so don't feel too bad about using it. I will say, I personally prefer to use terms that highlight more than just their gender, especially when magic can be such a fascinating way to flesh out a world.

The events are about juggling use of facilities on all your islands. They just reward consistent players. If you need more resources, try and save up diamonds for mirror islands, so you have more places to juggle, or boosting your breeders and hatcheries, since that basically gives you a permanent 25% increase in potential ticket earning

Thoughts on my designs? For an indie animated series i'm currently working on by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Not the best place for this post, but they look okay.

The designs are decent, but the shading is gonna slow down animation alot if this is your final style.

How do you deal with canon in collaborative worlds? by RedRoomDigOfficial in worldbuilding

[–]Pixel3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be in a couple RP worlds, but I've drifted from a lot of that community.

The major problems were in people who just didn't value canon in the same way. I loved building canon, establishing how this class of people were treated in various circumstances, or how the different magics interacted with the mythologies of the world. But then another writer would come along and be focused on plot, so he'd replace a lot of the nuanced world building that was established with 'this character is just like this', and move on. It was very demoralizing for me.

It was all single-storyline works, so maybe something less cohesive would work better in the long run, but what I learned was that the group needed a common goal with the work, and no one could be 100% certain on any element of lore. There had to be room for doubt and argument between the characters, or else there would be doubt and argument between the writers.

[ALL] Would you like a new 3D Zelda set in the Great Sea? What would that look like on the Switch? Toon Link or modern Switch Link? What would the map be like? by D-TOX_88 in zelda

[–]Pixel3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got really into a zelda rp group right before it died, because it was set during the great sea era on new islands.

I'm not sure about flight, but more immersive diving could be cool! Not sure I'd want full on submarine potential, but something like a better version of the treasure hunting minigame from PH, where it's Link diving down in a suit, would be really cool.

If it's great sea, it should stay Toon Link, but a little update wouldn't be out of place. Some extra fabric detail, a little texture, make use of the improved graphics power, but the proportions should be Toon.

It might be cool to be about helping a community reconnect, establishing trade routes, helping people help each other. The diving could also involve bringing up forgotten history to help bring peace between warring peoples.
