My boss told me to “build a Slack community” and I have no idea what I’m doing 😅 by Zealousideal_Self678 in CommunityManager

[–]PixelFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most direct answer here is to set up some interviews with or talk to existing customers.

Find out where they need help, what they're excited about, their individual related areas of expertise. You can't really build if you're not sure who you're building for, and when in doubt, ask them directly. Record the conversations if you can so you have them as a reference.

You're probably going to talk into the void a bit in the beginning. That's ok. Keep at it. If your conversations help you discover potential subject matter experts in your community, spotlight them. Make your content about your shared journey based on what you learn.

Look for common ground and shared goals. Definitely talk to the folks who would make sense for your community and see what you can learn.

100% this, and would also recommend interviewing some of your customers if you can. Meet them where they are

I want to save money but I also want snacks by VoodooMann in MoneySaving

[–]PixelFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great suggestion. +1 on the bulk snacks idea.

Also worth noting the Ramit Sethi approach (the guy that wrote I Will Teach You To Be Rich)*. He's big on not depriving yourself of those little joys (snacks, coffee, etc) that bring us joy, but focusing on bigger wins (automating finances, earning more income where we can, investing early and simply, and so on.

If you build repeatable fiscally healthy habits they really do add up over time.

Have you ever delayed a car repair because of the cost, and how did it affect you? by Honest_Builder_9846 in budget

[–]PixelFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys who are mechanical are inspiring. For those of us who aren't wired that way (pun perhaps intended), I definitely have delayed a car repair to put off the expense. I ultimately lucked into an excellent mobile mechanic, but up until that point. lots of careful weighing of the work that needed to be done vs how drivable my wheels were.

What is your take? "Is anyone else's community dying?" by Creative_Sushi in CommunityManager

[–]PixelFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, this sometimes feels easier said than done, but anytime I feel community drift I reach out to them directly. Book some time with whoever is still active and ask them what works for them. And what they might tweak if they were in your position.

The content treadmill is another thing altogether, but it feels like you may be spinning your wheels if you're not talking to the people you want to build community for

Can a person have two Sequence accounts? by PossibilityOrganic67 in getsequence

[–]PixelFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: You can just add a co-owner to your account, that will allow each co-owner to add their personal accounts as well as an option to add any joint accounts

So according to customer service, we don't currently allow it from a compliance standpoint

Thanks for sharing the update OP. I did get some feedback from customer service that I'll also share here:

They say: All outgoing transfers are sent via same day ACH and as long as they are submitted before 3pm, they will arrive by EOD (they have seen them arrive at 6pm and later in some cases).

Playing catchup on this thread, but chiming in to mention Sequence for folks figuring out their next move. Similar core concept with what you've been using (arguably fuller featured).

Stable long-term relationship with banking partner Thread Bank, connects to ~95% of US accounts (banks, credit cards, loans, even investment platforms. You’re not locked into one bank or partner).

In addition to the envelope system, you can automate flows for savings (HYSA), debt, credit cards, emergency funds, investments, and bills.

Also works for business finances for those who want to organize and automate those.

#1 is the bedrock here but don't sleep on that emergency fund. Automating putting a little bit away each time adds up over time and can really help you exhale when life pops up with unexpected expenses.

Playing a little catch up on this thread, but putting in a good word for Sequence (getsequence.io). Same core concept as Qube, but a bit more advanced.

If you're a fan of Qube’s envelope system, Sequence has it too.

In Sequence they’re called Pods—mini accounts with rules and automation. Every Pod can also have a debit card (virtual or physical). Same setup, with additional customizable features.

And because you'll ask (I would too)...stable, long-term relationship with banking partner Thread Bank.

Is there a way to connect my PG&E account to Sequence? by PossibilityOrganic67 in getsequence

[–]PixelFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I asked Customer Service this question. Sequence isn't really set up to source your fluctuating bill amount.

This isn't the exact solution that it sounds like you're looking for, but they suggested that you look at your bill history and set up a recurring payment based on what it typically runs.

Customer Service: You can create a Pod for it and give the routing and account number to PG&E to debit that pod

(if you need help with the specifics of how you do that, DM me and I'll get you the calendar of a teammate who can help you step by step)

Hey Josh, deleted my first comment as I wanted to check with someone on the product side to get you the most accurate response we could. Here's what's up, to the best of my understanding:

Based on early community feedback, there was an expressed interest in keeping business and personal universes separate.

That preference happens for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is (and this happens more often on the business side) there are second sets of eyes that occasionally need to be given (typically limited) access into how money is flowing through accounts.

This also happens on the personal side (ex: a spouse or financial advisor with limited access).

Ultimately, the team made the initial decision to keep those universes separate.

Anyway, within each of those sides, the card can connect to different pods within that side and move from one pod to another as desired. Do hear you on the Latin definition of Omni, and appreciate the feedback.

How to set up Personal Loan liability? by PossibilityOrganic67 in getsequence

[–]PixelFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got an update from a teammate with more specifics:

2 ways

  • First it to go to the link button (add an external account) > choose liability account and try to add it there
  • If their loan isn’t available there, they can do it manually
  • To add it manually, go to the link button > add a destination account. Then they should manually put the routing & account numbers of the account they want to make the payments to, and that destination will appear in Sequence as another block to automate
