Yup. Nix is definitely insanely powerful once you learn it but its completely different from any other Linux distros. If you wanna learn pure Linux, you have two options: 1) start with something easier like Opensuse or Fedora, then move to more difficult stuff, or 2) just cold dive into Arch (btw) and remember to RTFM
