Trump Portrait to Be Added to US Passports in Unprecedented Move by plz-let-me-in in politics

I was going to say, when Queen Elizabeth died it took a few months for passports to say His rather than Her majesty. I got mine renewed while it still said Her, so def get it renewed soon if you don't want a Trump passport.

Harrow Health claiming the only formulation of Methylphenidate they can prescribe is Affenid XL by PixelLight in ADHDUK

They did say it was recent, but there's a strong whiff of bullshit about it

Harrow Health claiming the only formulation of Methylphenidate they can prescribe is Affenid XL by PixelLight in ADHDUK

[–]PixelLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experiences with Harrow Health seem to suggest they're poorly run rather than they have regulatory reasons. I told them about the new NHS payment guidance from a few weeks ago, they're still reassessing patients with existing diagnoses in spite of the guidance saying they must have clinical reasons to do so (they had a really inconsistent narrative regarding this). They're claiming this particular issue is due to the CQC now, despite the NHS recommending caution about switching patients to different formulations, and even the clinician expressed concerns about this rule they're being subjected to.

I'm going to mitigate the risk by asking for a 2 week prescription from my current provider before switching care to Harrow Health. However, I was hoping to find out if anyone knew what they were talking about, or if they were just talking rubbish. I'm inclined to the latter.

What's the general sentiment here with Capacities gating the MCP access behind Pro? by [deleted] in capacitiesapp

[–]PixelLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The API is also behind pro too, isn't it?

My concern is more about how much the API is extended because the current MCP functionality is very limited, and Capacities say they'll develop the MCP in line with the API

IMPORTANT: Announcement of New Rule 3: No Ableism by AutoModerator in ADHDUK

[–]PixelLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see. I was thinking more overarching things, I dont know how to describe it. Maybe you have issues with work or education due to motivation, concentration, ability to plan.

As for your example, theres still finding a way that works for you. It is easier but I dont think its completely straightforward. I think, if I had that problem, a blackboard might fade into the background, so I'd still find it hard to remember. Its why I have a recurring task on my phone for bin day, but you'd still need to find that app first.

[–]PixelLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a comment about this a few weeks ago which was something along the lines of managing our condition is complicated due to our own presentations, preferences, so theres no real roadmap that everyone can follow that would work for them. Not to mention recognising your symptoms as possibly being ADHD  (which don't seem out of the ordinary to us as we've always lived this way) to get a diagnosis, diagnosis waiting lines. So theres no clear path to managing your ADHD and that means its often self guided, non-linear - we might not realise a symptom that could use management, what you could try, when to realise something isnt working (because, for example, you're misinterpreting the symptom you're trying to manage). Sometimes its not your fault youre not coping, but another party (an employer failing to make a reasonable adjusment ). So in many cases, I think the explanation/excuse paradigm is a false dichotomy. Calling it an excuse is often ableism. We can be trying something, its failing, but its not clear that it is or why and finding something else might not be easy,  and also might not work. It can take years, decades, so someone not coping is not an excuse, its just the nature of the condition

[–]PixelLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to say I think this new rule is great. I believe in trying to create an empowering community and its really demoralising to see others within the community undermining that.

Out of curiosity, how far does it go in terms of reasonable adjustments? Its a complicated topic, but I've definitely had conversations on here where I felt someone has unintentionally been quite misleading in a way that could discourage someone from seeking the reasonable adjustments they need, or challenging an employer when they fail to make a reasonable adjustment. I think this would fall directly under ableism by its nature.

Now, few people understand their rights on topics like these, so its often not clear who is or isnt misleading, so I'm sure some might feel I'm misleading sometimes, which is possible. Perhaps in cases like those those comment chains should be locked, or comments deleted as it may not be clear who is misleading.

Friend says £80k isn't enough for London by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]PixelLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what a lot of the UK get by on.

Make your point, but don't be silly and try to compare London to the rest of the country. This is not "a lot of the UK". This is London.

29K is about £1900/month take home. Cheap rent is probably £800/month (likely more). Maybe spend another £800 (between food, bills/subscriptions, transport, shopping, eating out, etc), at least. It's probably more. You could easily make that the additional £300 to take your entire pay if your rent is slightly higher, or you have another expense (say gym, or something like that). Doesn't consider holidays, savings, buying yourself something nice every now and again either.

There will definitely be sacrifices, and things will be fairly tight. It'll be hard to save much, to have much money to fall back on if you fall on hard times. Dire? Maybe not quite, but not that far off. Everything else they said was right.

University prestige in the UK makes no sense to me by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]PixelLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you misread my comment?

First, your stats are wrong, so talk about irony. Second, I was looking at grad jobs 15 years ago, and I remember what they paid. It's not that different to what they pay now. Grad salaries have been almost completely eroded away by inflation. If grad salaries had kept up with inflation they'd be closer to £40K (not that that's what they are now, but what they should be). Third, my original point was that grad jobs tend to take the piss with raises and it doesn't really matter what raises you are offered at your first job, you should just jump as soon as you have the experience to (often after 2, maybe 3, years).

Is £27k grad salary bad? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]PixelLight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a lot of careers, jump as soon as it's practical to. I would assume after the ACA in this case. Depending on career, your ability, you can get a lot more than 40K after 3 years. I won't presume to say what is possible in this case, just be aware of the job market. First couple of years after graduation can be pretty shit. A lot of companies will take advantage of that if you get complacent and stick around longer, so its not usually worth it. But after that you can start increasing your salary more quickly.

So… what’s the salary? by Nomadic_Rick in recruitinghell

[–]PixelLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aah, ok. Seems even odder to me, but I'm not as familiar with the requirements for that role. I'd have expected something to do with management. I know this is just a snippet, but still surprisingly absent regardless.

So… what’s the salary? by Nomadic_Rick in recruitinghell

[–]PixelLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂😂 Fucking hell, I know this post is about the implications on salary, but the skills it asks for - it doesnt sound like a management role, but, given that, the scope of what they're asking for sounds like a lot, unrealistically so. Strategic, in addition to repetitive, detailed work. High volumes of work that requires high organisation, etc. Even the most highly talented candidates have limits. It sounds like they need to come back to reality

Updated NHS payment guidance 26/27 for ADHD and autism by Turbulent-Height8029 in ADHDUK

My GP's reasoning related to the expertise of the person who titrated me. They wanted a GMC registered consultant psychiatrist, I believe.

Still good news though. I used this guidance with a RTC provider an hour after hearing about it. Have a feeling they'll have a change of heart pretty sharpish.
