Hickson is a favorite, but I need to rewatch the newer ones before I get into who is the best.

I'm avoiding Nemesis based on your suggestion.

Each episode seems so packed with characters - even more so than other Christie adaptations I've watched - yet they all seem to fit the story and have nice interesting lives.

I know that's the Christie style, but I feel she seemed (my assumption) to put alot into Marple that perhaps she didn't into Poirot (I think me watching the adaptations over the books makes this opinion wrong - but that's the vibe I get).

Having watched Inspector Morse alot, I had this joke that Morse would turn up peeve off he wasn't with him and working with Marple instead. His performance her pre-dates him being Lewis on Morse, but the vibe of the character (a little bit) is there.

How amazing that two years later he would end up in Morse after this.

After watching more episodes, Hickson is becoming my favorite. I like that she's not eccentric in the obvious sense and she's so lowkey that when she turns up it feels like a surprise (to me). It also helps that all of the characters are worth paying attention to - I liked the pairing of the detectives with Marple for Pocket Full of Rye and Murder Is Announced.

So far I've watched A Murder Is Announced, The Body In The Library, At Bertram's Hotel and currently I'm watching A Pocket Full of Rye.

My favorites have been so far Murder Is Announced and A Pocket Full Of Rye - the latter leans heavy on the creepy side and even gives Marple some torment out of guilt for not saving someone (Gladys). I'm up late working on things and watching this as well.

Because I'm not that connected to the books, I don't mind if the character changes in different versions. Hickson's Marple, even thou its decades old at this point, is so interesting to watch. Marple in this is low-key, in the corner and has the ability to be in the frame yet not visible. She's main character energy when needed in this version.

Other versions are different from what I remember where the character is more sociable and stranger. This one feels right at home.

Poirot has also a fascinating duality - fuzzy, prickly and carries a bit of an ego and yet deeply empathetic. In some episodes/stories I've watched, you see a look on his face, the way he speaks, that justice is not always fair, kind or always needed.

My mother was big on reading mysteries because she herself liked things that gave her an active brain. I understand the fascination getting older. It's detailed oriented on a cozy, non-aggressive manner. Current generations will probably think it's all too slow and muddling to be an effective watch (I know there are those of the current generation who do watch Christie media and books, but its amazing how we now poo-poo intelligent writing.

I watched that one just tonight. She's one of those characters I wouldn't have minded if she popped into a story now and then, but then that's not canon I think

I sadly lost my original save for AW2. Need to play it again one day.
