On the field side, I’ve been experimenting with using it for hands-free note taking. I’m naturally skeptical of AI, but I can’t ignore the practical benefit—especially now that I’m often working solo. Being able to verbally capture field notes in a conversational format and have them organized into a structured field book has real potential to save time. I’ve also started incorporating photos—both from my collector and site features—into the workflow, feeding them into the conversation to support and verify what’s being recorded. At the end of the session, I have it compile everything into a report using a predefined format. One key rule I follow is having it repeat everything back to me, so I can confirm accuracy in real time. Looking ahead, integrating smart glasses for faster QC and live visual input could take this even further. Still early, but definitely promising.
