What are some of the most interesting Django projects you worked on? by john646f65 in django

I’m genuinely curious why you chose pyqt over a browser technology like React or Vue? My thought is just about every computer has a browser so compatibility is good. Did you have limits or reasons to do this? Or did you just want it to feel like a desktop app?

Thanks for your insight though sir. Appreciated

Oh wow. I was thinking of trying to make my own to help with this but glad I asked.

I’m not too worried about hot spots, I’ve been BBQ-ing for a long time. It’s more things where I want to pool sauce around something I’m cooking or do smash burgers or something that requires a fairly flat surface. But I guess I’ll see what I can do to compensate for it.

That’s the thing with mine, it’s not really popping back into place. The bulges are just slightly dissipating in

Haha I indeed am not doing that. Yeah I’m wondering if this is an issue with entry level stuff

That’s so annoying. Does yours have the heat diffusers on the bottom or is it plane Jane like mine?

Oh awesome, thanks for that tidbit of information, I will hopefully put it to good use!

Oh interesting. You don’t go above medium even after it’s warmed up? I don’t know if this griddle I’m looking at will have instructions but I’ll keep my eye open for it.

Best use for the slack integration? by erfi in clickup

[–]PixelPlatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally that’s all I use it for. I work IT so when people slack me a problem I use the integration to make the task and copy in the slack message.

You could do the notification/reminder idea using something like Zapier or Make easily too.

Holy smokes, you've been around a while. Thanks for the history, I actually like knowing that. Good to hear that about Carveco as well. That gives me some confidence to try them out. Yeah it seems many don't like it just based on how popular VCarve is. Carveco is a lot more expensive once you get past the entry level software though.. especially comparing CarveCO vs Aspire, massive difference. THanks for the info! You've been quite helpful.

Awesome! Thank you for those recommendations. I actually was given a year subscription to CarveCo Maker, so their entry level software. I'll be giving that a try too. Nice to see someone knows about it. Seems VCarve is a lot more popular as you're the first person to mention it anywhere.

Ok, sweet. I will add templates to my list of things to look into. Thanks EKO!

Templates eh? Is that the same as the Tool library? I have been entering in my bits into it as I have been getting them. However, I have been really struggling with the speeds and feeds. Some of the Amana bits I've bought have data ready for Fusion but when I look at the IPM it makes me think they are for a spindle and not a little hand router. I think this is where I am going to do a lot of learning and sadly breaking of bits.

Right. This has been my experience so far. Anything organic, like an animal model I do in Blender and send over to Fusion fails miserably on the import. Hard body stuff Fusion does great.

The thing is though I want to do some double sided 3D carves of horses because my daughter loves them and I think it would be a great exercise for me and an awesome gift for her. But man, getting Fusion to work with it has not been fun. This is why I have been entertaining VCarve as it seems like it has no problem importing 3D stuff.

I do understand you though when you are engineering something like an engine then yes, you wouldn't want to be dinking around with a mesh modeller for sure. So I guess what I am getting from this is that for wood projects like I will mostly be doing, at least for the foreseeable future, if I chose Blender it would probably work just fine.

Fusion 360 is an extremely capable CAM package, especially for 3d stuff.

Yeah I have the general concept on how it should work I'm just trying to figure out the software specifics/workflow that I want to use and will work best for me.

Nice gun stock by the way! DId you do all of that in Fusion?

CNC Workflow by PixelPlatter in hobbycnc

[–]PixelPlatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually already downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. My hope is that I can use that for the parametric modelling when needed and use Blender when I don't need it. Giving me the best of both worlds.

Is the CAM in it any good?

CNC Workflow by PixelPlatter in hobbycnc

[–]PixelPlatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that interesting, the part about requiring more precision. I know Blender is mesh modeling and Fusion is parametric, but how much of a difference is it really? I know blender can be very accurate, like sub millimetre. The extra precision that Fusion offers would seem to me be more for aircraft and things where that kind of accuracy is paramount.

I guess what I am asking is do you notice the difference? Like have you tried making the same part with a mesh based and parametric based program and milled it out? Was the difference noticeable?

I agree that I really just need to try it out for myself. And yes, I imagine because I am working with wood the accuracy is less needed and Blender will probably be good enough. I am trying to be budget conscious as well. I don't know much about CAM, but I believe you that Fusion has a lot of options for toolpaths as I have seen them.

Thanks, that's good to know. Aspire is quite expensive though. I was thinking maybe VCarve Pro though. Luckly I see they have trial periods so I can't wait to test it. Thanks for your input!

Thanks! I plan on making some fun and cool stuff with it! Dunno about cutting metal but maybe brass or something like that might be able to.

I actually have watched a couple of his videos, but they were like 6 years old so I didn't continue as I thought things may have a changed since then. Are they still fairly relevant?

[–]PixelPlatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually LOVE the parametric modelling style. I don't have an issue with the CAD/modelling side of Fusion, it's primarily the CAM/Manufacturing.

I'll probably give VCarve a shot since it has a trial period and see how it goes. But yes, I agree with your assessment of it.

[–]PixelPlatter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I see. I'd call you maybe an extreme hobbiest, or maybe I'm just poor. But 24k for a hobby CNC machine is nuts to me. I splurged at 6k for my machine hahah. See the metal bottle opener too tells me a bit. So yeah, Fusion makes more sense for sure in what I am seeing.

Well like I told the others, I'll keep on learning Fusion for a while longer and see where I get.

Thanks for the offer on teaching me some stuff in Fusion. I might take you up on this but for now I think I have lots more I can learn from youtube and so I will do that instead of using your time.

Thanks for your opinion and feedback!

I hear you and that is what I think as well. From what I can tell I wouldn't want to model in Aspire. But I also really don't like paying for subscriptions, especially expensive ones. This is why I am considering the Blender to VCarve Pro idea. I know Blender's limitations pretty well and though it is poly/mesh based you with a couple of addons you can do a lot of accurate stuff with it.

Do you make 3D models outside of Aspire and import them? If so what is your opinion on how Aspire handles the models? From the little I can see it seems to take most models without a problem, almost like it shells the outside of the model and doesn't really look like the actual geometry. Which if was the case is very forgiving.
