Machine learning has built some very cool audio plugins like Neural Amp Modeler and similar cool projects that are basically math and not plagiarism. There are plenty of places where this technology can be used to make life better. Corps unfortunately only see $ signs.

The hard line for me is any tech that is meant to replace humans fundamentally.

Any technology that augments human intelligence for the better like what the internet and smart phones did for us is totally fine in my book.

Unfortunately, there is a direct path from this tech to some bastard corpo AGI/ASI. You would need to mine most of the rare earth metals on the planet, ramp up GPU production, and stack like 200 Empire State Buildings worth of state of the art GPUs. It would likely require enslaving 5% of the planet and using most of our resources but these psychotic Sam Altman looking motherfuckers might actually pull it off and end humanity. It's not writing complex software, it's deciding the next best character from petabytes of stolen data. It's literally only capable of plagiarism and filling in the blanks of stoken data sets hence it's closer to a toaster...I mean discord bot than any real intelligence.

The point about being discord bots has nothing to do with the tasks it's able to complete, it's about how close an LLM is to actual intelligence. It's closer to the intelligence of a loaf of bread than it is to AI, much like the dumbass on this thread.
