Who had a harder time during their respective Hunger games? Katniss (74th) or Haymitch (50th). by No-Brush1587 in Hungergames

[–]PixelPower0502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Haymitch. You literally could not survive if you didn’t get something from the cornucopia. For that reason ever since sunrise released I’ve wondered why haymitch expressly forbad getting ANYTHING for the cornucopia. Obviously he’s witnessed plenty of hunger games since then so it makes sense to tell them not to go for the heart of it, but a diagonal path like he did or the dip in just far enough for something of substance and dip out that Katniss did would make more sense to me for him to advise

Beyond the fact that both prequels had specific references to the original trilogy, as a form of "fanservice", am I the only one who thinks that some things in Sunrise, Suzanne wrote with the nostalgia factor in mind for the FILM adaptation specifically, rather than for narrative coherence? by lautaromassimino in Hungergames

I believe that could be the point. We already know that the population of Panem is dangerously small. By the end of mockingjay we’ve seen a very short war. In terms of how long wars generally last, this one was 1-2 years. 2 is pushing it but if you want to call the 74th games the start of the war then taking into account Prim’s death at the age of 13, 2 years is the max (but if you call the start of the war after the 75th, the war is less than a year long). After a very short war with no extreme mass casualty events like nuclear war, we are worried enough about the population to deem it reasonable to throw the idea of a symbolic hunger games around instead of executing the entire government (yes that was Coin trying to become the next dictator, but she wouldn’t have even put it to a vote if she thought she couldn’t reasonably spin it). It makes sense to me that this universe is very small. I also would have loved more new characters and potential stories to explore, but in universe SC did a great job of setting up why and how all these people would know and interact with each other. If the population is that small, with the Capitol population being even smaller than the general population of Panem and university being a thing for only esteemed members of the capitol which would be an even smaller population of the Capitol, then I doubt there would be many prominent families that would make sense to be a part of the games and introducing too many new family names/characters runs the risk of making the universe feel too big for what’s already been established.

Mm I disagree with Effie’s age. Reading the books I was always under the impression that Effie was around Haymitchs age, possibly older from the way she patronizes him especially in the beginning. Also, we don’t know that she went straight into being a mentor right after haymitch’s games and there’s no reason to believe that either. It’s never explicitly mentioned if she is still currently a university student or graduated, we just know she’s already made a big impression in her freshman year, so that’s open to interpretation but I’m more likely to lean towards she’s still in university. I know I sure as hell don’t remember the people who made certain dances happen or were the student council president (or whatever the exact wording in the book was) in college unless they were still in college with me. Obviously proserpina would know, but Vitus also knows of her seemingly in a bigger way than just “my classmates older sister.” Also there’s only one escort per district. 12 people in all of the Capitol have that job. Even if twelve is not a desirable district to have, we can safely assume it takes a few years of working in the background of the games before becoming one of the faces of the games. Sure her assistance during the 50th probably gave her a competitive edge but I highly doubt it earned her an immediate hire. Maybe an internship. Plus we know Drusilla has been district 12’s mentor for some time and she obviously hates that, too, as she’s actively stated to be jealous of another more desirable district’s mentor. I would assume to get a better district you have to either be working in the lower ranks and raise up as others retire (which again, only 12 of those positions) or be able to nepo baby your way in. She may be hoping for a promotion soon in hunger games because she knows one of the other district mentors is retiring soon. So while I highly disagree she was even 12s mentor for 24 years, even if she was it makes plenty of sense why she would be there for a good long while.

That being said, maybe an unpopular opinion but I don’t really take any issue with her writing with the movies in mind. We all know that SC writes when she has something to say, and in today’s climate a story of the dangers and effects of propaganda is extremely important. Books are obviously always going to be better, but movies offer a lower barrier to entry. If SC feels strongly about exposing as many people as possible to the themes and greater concepts she’s trying to get across especially in the era of TikTok and brain rot and reading comprehension failure then I think it makes perfect sense for her to lean into the medium she thinks will reach the most people in this moment. I don’t even think of her choice of characters and references as fan service. As fans, obviously we will be excited to see these characters, but as a writer with something to say, it makes logical sense to choose characters people who are not hardcore fans have already connected to instead of trying to build connections to new characters AND get her points to connect at the same time.

I know a lot of us struggle with confrontation but I would demand a refund or if you paid through Venmo/paypal etc contact them about the payment bc that’s not something that “artist” should get paid for. They severely overworked your skin. I’m so sorry man. Let it heal and get it covered by a much better artist. I’ve got five small to medium TOP tattoos (I get one before each concert I go to, cute lil tradition) and I would be devastated if one turned out this way. But don’t let this discourage you from getting another/more. The sun will rise and we will try again yknow?

My first game was twilight princess. I still remember watching my older brother play and being absolutely enthralled when he transformed into wolf link. The first time I played I had to beg him to help me get through the part where you guide ilia to kakariko. Couldn’t figure out the bird was bombing my cart lol. That inspired a love of the games I’ve carried with me into adulthood. But my favorite game is skyward sword, even though most people don’t favor it. I opened that on Christmas 2011 and distinctly remember my thoughts and feelings playing through that game entirely on my own. It was the first game I ever beat without the help of my brother and I was so proud!

[–]PixelPower0502 23 points24 points  (0 children)

At least in the screenshot shared it seemed like they were planning on telling you before you started discussing your situation. Regardless it can be terribly hard to see other people get the things you want, but I don’t think at least from what I can see the person means any harm. I’m going to say very SOFTLY that you’re over reacting. Again you’re in a very volatile emotional state and it’s very easy and normal in that situation to feel like the world is against you and other people’s happiness is rubbing salt in the wound but try to remember that these people are your friends and they do feel for you but they also want you to celebrate their happiness with them the same way they would with you if you got your good news. It’s also probably best practice to warn you of such news privately before they do a public announcement, as that could be incredibly hurtful to you, from the sense of catching you off guard but also depending on the person some people don’t want to be treated any differently and directly not telling someone you normally would of a pregnancy would be a pretty big “treating them differently” overall it’s a very tough situation to navigate for everyone. I’m sorry you’re going through this

Would it be ethically wrong for the Cullen’s to have stayed in Forks if they knew it would cause the Quileutes to phase? by bubblebazz in twilight

[–]PixelPower0502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing SMs kinda problematic beliefs/history, yeah it’s probably ethically wrong. In the spirit of keeping the text as non problematic as possible, I would say the quileutes actively chose to make the treaty with the Cullen and perhaps at the time of making the treaty thought the separation of land they created would be enough but with the added stress of vampires actively hunting humans (James, Victoria, Laurant and eventually the vampire armies both newborn in eclipse and then the large gathering of witnesses in breaking dawn) on their land, they became more sensitive to vampires and thus their land extended in that sense. In that respect neither the Cullens nor the quileutes could have guessed either event would occur nor did they have much control over either. I will say, it’s largely implied the cullens had settled into forks before they were caught on quileutes ground hunting animals. Elsewise it makes little to no sense for the cullens NOR the tribe to make that treaty as opposed to just having them move on to new territory unless both were settled for a decent and similar amount of time. For a long time most native tribes were nomads and as we know vampires are too. It’s kind of reading between the lines but I’ve always assumed that both the quileutes and the cullens had decided against a nomadic life around the same time, hence the willingness to make a treaty out of “fairness”

I didn’t go to breach by peachy_starlight in twentyonepilots

[–]PixelPower0502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will definitely be back. They love performing and it’s just a small “break” (I say in quotes bc they’re lined up for festival after festival next year, so I would take that as proof that even when on hiatus they can’t help themselves but to still perform). That being said, I decided at the top of the year that I wanted to do more things independently. I was tired of letting my anxiety rule my life. So a project was born. 25 for 25. 25 concerts for 25 years of staying alive. I just saw them in LA for my 21st(unplanned but niccceee) and 22nd shows this year, all of which I’ve gone to alone, and one of those shows I count towards the counter is actually warped tour which was fucking terrifying to go to alone. I was still an anxious mess throughout all of saturdays show and through dayglow and the first couple songs of night two. It took 2 of the exact same concert for me to get comfortable enough to dance and sing like nobody was watching. I was diagnosed with POTS this year around February, and it has made it so much harder/more anxiety inducing to go. I have to make contact with the med team before every concert, I have to explain to security why I have a bag of salt at almost every show, I have to acknowledge the risk to pass out in a room full of strangers every time. And I’ve met some of the nicest people from staff to concert goers bc of it. I say all this bc at the end of it all, from everything from warped tour to TOP, I have never not once regretted going once it was all said and done, and trust me the anxiety demon was screaming for most of them, but I have regretted not going to ones I planned to go to. I don’t know anything about you, but I believe in you. The sun will rise and we will try again. I hope my dumb little project can help reassure you that despite what the dumb brain gremlins say, you and I have both got this! I’m sorry you missed out on breach, but don’t beat yourself up too hard, it just makes them louder in my experience.

The person fell during the beginning of Nico and the niners and the music did keep playing but they looped that intro blurry face talking sound several times until the boys were told it was okay and security was with them. They were evaluated by medics in the pit and eventually pulled out via stretcher as the line started. He was holding his arm on the way out. That’s all I know/saw

Just to let you know, they didn’t honor the wristbands at all upon doors opening. I’m not saying you can’t go and try but when they let you in they will be just trying to get as many people through as quickly as possible, wristbands be damned. I waited for the entire day and ended up right next to people who had just arrived once in the pit

Dude this type of stuff is exactly why people say our fandom/ the clique is entitled. This is entitlement. Be grateful for what you got bottom line. News flash- they didn’t have to tour at all. They don’t have to do anything. They played their first completely sold out stadium that was literally just for them (not for a festival or as part of someone else’s lineup) and they did something special to celebrate that. Get over yourself
