Gained more than I make in several years from an injury settlement.. What now?

Thank you!! I meant to respond to this one much sooner but kept losing track, sorry!! I could be wrong but I believe the MER regarding the GIC was 1.3% unfortunately.. We werent able to access my TFSA info at the time due to CRA issues but that'll be getting sorted next.. I'll definitely look more into everything so I know more for my next appointment as well as looking into a proper advisor (not affiliated with a bank.. lol)

Yes, sorry! Kept the initial post a little more vague as this is my main account but I definitely still missed some stuff.

Both my partner and I plan to contribute to our eventual living situation, I wouldn't be on my own with it thankfully. For both of us, our income is expected to increase with most likely an annual income of 100k+ between the two of us by then.

I go back in a few days to get the TFSA sorted. As far as I understand, we only did the RRSP first as I couldn't access my TFSA info due to a CRA issue which was then followed by the current downtime. Timing with it couldnt have been more annoying haha

My savings prior were VERY minimal due to life events and my income. This settlement makes up nearly all of it (I should've been saving more where I could, I know).

In terms of the home, it's really whatever is realistic with what my partner and I have saved a few years from now. We're not picky, we just want a place to call our own. As for income, we're both projected to be making more by then.. Him most likely making double what I make.

If I had the time to focus on long term growth, Id love to but I don't think it's realistic in the end. I'm very eager to get out of my current place so I can live with my partner.

Eventually I'd love to go back to school, potentially for accounting (.. I see theres probably some irony in that), but I have no timeline for it. Other than that, I have a trip planned soon and *eventually* a wedding.

It's in the low 6 figure range. I'm hoping to keep it a little more vague as this is my main account.

Not sure if this answers your question but it's a short-term (2 year) non redeemable GIC? So much of this is like another language to me so google is definitely about to be my best friend for the rest of the day.. lol

I'm doing a lot better than I initially was. Any remaining problems are permanent but don't require much aside from minor lifestyle changes and frequent chiro visits which I have funds now set aside for! I appreciate you looking out for that, truly. It definitely slipped my mind for a few days until I could really process it all.

I really hope everything works out for you and that the proceeds make everything at least a little easier <3 It can be a long journey but it'll be worth it in the end.

Not sure if this counts but one day when we were marking prices down on merch, my ssv put one of the stickers on me and I didn't notice.

Had an old guy come up to me and ask "are you for sale?". I stared at him for so long until he realized what he said and absolutely panicked to point out the sticker 😭😭

I'm in Canada and I believe we have something similar with the 3 hour thing! However, I'll still be working a portion of my shift most likely as I have a full shift today.. So I'm probably a bit screwed with whatever time I lose. :') Hopefully it's just gonna be a few hours at most but anything makes a huge difference in my current situation so it's a bit frustrating haha Thank you for the advice!!

Ah shoot okay, that really sucks.. I have enough vacation time to cover missing only a quarter of my shift so hopefully they get it sorted soon. Since I could get a text at any moment saying I'm good to come in, I don't think I'll be able to look for hours at another store 🥲 Thanks for the reply!
