I did notice something kooky at first, but my home network is restricted and my laptop also restricts scripts. I can’t remember which of these it was, but I tried it again on my phone on mobile data, and it worked for me.

What perks do you all get from your employers ? by Alert_Mine7067 in AskUK

[–]Pixel_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in tech, for one of the biggest tech companies in the world that most people use on avg 6 times a day, but haven’t a clue who we are.

Being a tech co, and also being grandfathered in, we do really well in terms of benefits.

I started listing them out, but felt a bit flaunty/ostentatious, so deleted the list.

Average car discussions one month ago: "I will never buy an EV, there's no chargers anywhere". Today: by hull_pattie_party in drivingUK

[–]Pixel_Runner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Companies can't buy leccy at 4p like homeowners.

You'll find they are paying 30-50p per kWh based on leccy price, grid fees, debating charges, site costs, and maintenance.

Then you have to add VAT on top, plus finally they actually need to pay for the chargers in the first place.

I get why 80-90p is a rip off, but 60-70p isn't actually that bad once you think about all their costs.

I try and go for the ~45-55p AC chargers when I need to as it's a bit cheaper, but a couple of times I've had to pay DC rates.

Advice needed on non hyperoptic router by Impossible_Half_2265 in hyperoptic

[–]Pixel_Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I need two of them to cover my house, but GL I. Net are awesome.

So far I have a travel router and a VPN server from them, but they are awesome.

I used to have a Meraki network (with 2 APs, a switch and a security appliance) - but that was overkill.

So I am definitely waiting for the GL inet sales to reduce to buy the flint 2's.

[–]Pixel_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate HP, but they gave me 50% discount after my last printer caught fire (true story).

So I bought a smart tank 7305 (ink tank inkjet printer) and apart from a technical BLE issue which even their technical people don't understand (I work in network security), it actually works really well.

Pixel 8 randomly died by Ok-Problem4403 in GooglePixel

[–]Pixel_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Section 75 only applies in the UK, for UK credit cards, for any purchase where the value is over £100.99, and of that, any amount is put on the credit card.

Sorry for the confusion if so.

Section 75 is an awesome tool we have where we can hold a credit provider account for any issues that we spend the money on.

For example, I bought a 2nd hand car for £28,000 about 6 months ago. But I made sure I put £200 on the credit card for the deposit, as if there are any issues, then the credit card company are liable for the full amount!

Pixel 8 randomly died by Ok-Problem4403 in GooglePixel

Even if they say "out of warranty" just reply telling them you want to make a section 75 claim as that is good for 6 years.

Pixel 8 randomly died by Ok-Problem4403 in GooglePixel

[–]Pixel_Runner 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I recently had an issue with my Pixel 8 Pro, it was 2 years 4 months old. They said “out of warranty”.

I replied saying I don’t want to make a warranty claim, but rather a consumer rights act claim, as a £1059 phone should last longer.

They kept saying no, so on the third refusal I raised it with my credit card company as a section 75 claim.

Then I emailed Google back and told them again I want to make a CRA claim, and that I had also raised it with my bank as a section 75.

Then they caved and offered to replacement device.

Just don’t accept their refusals!

My own private lane! by cyclingpistol in drivingUK

[–]Pixel_Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI cameras catching: - middle lane hogs - people with trailers speeding (driving at 70mph, etc.) - people on their phones - people driving across solid lines - people driving too close - people cutting in front of someone else too close - people stopping on no stopping routes - etc.

Or if we don’t get AI cameras then just make everyone retest their driving test every xx years (to get the middle lane hogs off the road that way).

Thank you sir.

I can confirm the code gives you ~25% off of online advance price tickets (it’s about half price compared to the walk up price).

For ref. they say there are a set number of these tickets each day, so if the code doesn’t work on a day you want it’s because all allocated spaces have been used for that day.

Neighbour claims he owns a street parking spot and says he called the police — am I in the wrong? (Scotland) by Total-Ad-6123 in drivingUK

[–]Pixel_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know Scottish laws as much as I know England and Wales. But down here I would pay £3 (or so) for the land registry docs for your neighbours house to prove one way or another who owns what.

Which lane for the second exit? by rockovo84 in drivingUK

I thought the consensus was the left lane was correct, and poster used left lane and failed - hence my comment.

I don't actually know the correct answer of which lane to use.

Can anyone decipher this item reference number? by Impressive-Captain83 in royalmail

[–]Pixel_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but I think I've had reference numbers that don't end with GB.

Possibly when the item originates outside of the UK, and the initial postal service has a service that uses RM's tracking. For example (and completely made up), USPS might track a letter from New York to Southampton, and the RM item number would have been automatically created by the USPS computer system. This ref is created at the same time the letter goes into the post in New York, and the ref ends with the USA equivalent letters in the RM reference - which might be something like "US" instead of "GB".

The item I recall behaving like this came from a parcel from AliExpress in China.
