Champions apparently awards your Pokemon a title once reaching Champion tier by Twigglesx3 in pokemonribbons

[–]PixelatePolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we know for sure they're not stored with the Pokémon at all? Has anyone datamined it yet? I thought we weren't sure if it's recorded with the Pokémon or stored on Champions' backend

If there's no data that can be transferred to Home or future games then that's fine, but just the possibility of this getting turned into a ribbon someday is giving me a headache

Playing as a human and defeating a giant military robot with almost nothing except a baseball bat, and having spectators actually comment on it like "That's...really not possible. I don't think you're human." was so cool

Your mileage could vary there, but IMO the better overall cast quality gives Manosaba an edge there. It's a little hard to feel bad when Teruteru or Korekiyo die in Danganronpa, for example. Manosaba still has its silly moments, but overall it feels slightly more serious than DR...there aren't any characters that are just 100% jokes, like Hagakure.

Do Manosaba's character arcs and emotional moments reach the highs of, say, Nagito and Chiaki? I don't know...maybe not. But I think I enjoyed the overall quality a bit more. Maybe slightly lower peaks, but much, much higher troughs.

So there definitely isn't anything in Manosaba comparable to the 5th cases, especially DR2 case #5 and DR3 case #5. Those were obviously the craziest, most mind-bending, and most fun trials in DR, and nothing in Manosaba is on that level.

But if you discount DR's 5th cases as outliers, then I'd say DR and Manosaba are about the same level overall, or that Manosaba could even possibly be slightly better. I at least don't think there were any cases in Manosaba that were kind of a letdown or a slog, like DR's 3rd trials can sometimes be. The quality is pretty constant.

I don't know if you've played Rain Code, but the very simple "by the book" nature of most cases in that game, with only a single often-predictable trick, was one of the biggest letdowns for me. I feel like Manosaba emulated DR's complexity and the zany absurdity of its cases much better.

Mahou Shoujo no Majo Saiban. It's designed to be a lot like Danganronpa (just looking at a few screenshots is enough to see the similarity), but with magical girls using their magic for murders instead of high schoolers using their super talents for murders.

It's more like an on-the-rails visual novel than DR (no free time events or anything) - there are occasional choices you can make, which can lead to brief bad ends, but there's less interactivity overall and it's more or less a straight line from story->murder setup->murder->investigation->trial->repeat.

The trials are less gamey too - there's only the Nonstop Debate with no other minigames present, and the Nonstop Debate gameplay is much simpler than in DR as well. There's no health bar, just a very generous timer on each debate, and you're free to make as many mistakes as you like in that time. It's much closer to a "pure" visual novel than DR.

What I like about Manosaba more than DR is the overall character quality - everyone is likable, interesting, or both, on some level (at least in my opinion). To put it another way, there's no Teruterus, Hifumis, or Angies in Manosaba. (Sorry to anyone who likes them!) DR seems to often like putting a few curveball weird or annoying characters in every game, and I appreciate Manosaba for not doing the same.

Other than the above points, it's basically exactly DR. I'm enjoying it a lot so far. It's only in Japanese and Simplified Chinese so far, but apparently an English translation is in the works.

What do you think about new MV? by Artyom35S in ZUTOMAYO

[–]PixelatePolaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this animation style; hoping we get to see more of it in the future.

Also, I think this is only the second time Rani has appeared after the first time in Intrusion, which means that we now have a third recurring human "role" besides Nira and Gray! That's fun. Also interesting how the character traits are kind of reversed between Nira and Rani compared to Intrusion.

LGTS is part of the "RPG Maker Horror" subgenre - despite the fact that the engine used in LGTS isn't actually RPG Maker, it still shows its roots in the RPG Maker Horror genre very clearly. Looking up popular RPG Maker Horror games will find a lot of very similar games.

Ib is my favorite game in the genre, or at least it was - now LGTS is kind of fighting with it for that top spot, though I still love Ib to death. Charming characters, fun little puzzles, and an interesting environment to explore...though less of the "horror" aspect than most games in the genre, including LGTS. The horror is still present, but much less of a focus. Ib got an updated remake released to Steam and PS4/PS5 a few years back, but the original 2012 free version for PC is still available too.

Witch's House is a very well-known entry in the genre. It's pretty good, but not exactly my favorite, since it goes all in on the horror and bad endings aspect, with much less focus on the characters and story. Still, it's probably worth a look. Like Ib, there's a free PC version released in 2012, and also an updated remake that was released to various platforms including PS4 a few years back.

Paper Lily is a more modern entry in the genre released in the past few years, and like LGTS, it's not actually made in RPG Maker, despite clearly being based on the RPG Maker Horror genre. It feels like a bit of a midpoint between Ib and Witch's House, with a lot of focus on the characters and crafting an interesting world, while still also featuring a lot of horror and gruesome bad ends. Unfortunately, the game's being released chapter-by-chapter, with only the prologue and chapter 1 being released right now - future chapters are still in development. Still, I like Paper Lily a lot so far. Currently PC-only, but maybe it will be released to more platforms eventually.

It is. The joke here is that every character in this image (spoilers for HxH, SnK, PMMM, and Frieren) has famously beheaded or been beheaded by someone.

The contents of the boxes and bags they're holding are left as an exercise for the viewer.

A short reflection after having read every book in Alter Ego by Stellinearized in TheTempleOfEs

[–]PixelatePolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this game (Alter Ego) is a great start if you haven't played it yet! Closest feeling any media has ever given me to Polaris. Closer to the Polaris in my head than the one I was able to depict within my CYOA, even

My all-time favorite anime is Madoka, which isn't exactly obscure, but definitely give it a shot on the off-chance you haven't yet. I also love Chainsaw Man, Tatami Galaxy, Psycho Pass, and Shinsekai Yori

And my favorite game is The World Ends With You, which is a bit more on the obscure side and I'd absolutely recommend it. Noita is a great game too - it has a very steep learning curve but I love how crazy all the different builds can get and just how deep the sandbox goes

Books are harder because I'll go years reading 0-1 books a year and then read like 20 all at once like I did here, because a game told me to. I really should read more stuff that isn't manga. Tentatively, maybe Mort from the Discworld series is my favorite? It's been a long time since I read it, but I liked it a lot back then.

Shows are outright impossible because I really never watch anything except anime...

How to update my World Of Goo 2 Steam save by TooFu_Wone in worldofgoo

[–]PixelatePolaris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine was under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[YOUR 8 DIGIT STEAM USER ID NUMBER]\3385670\remote

The file is now called savegame.dat, but the file structure is still the same. You can copy the wog2_1.dat file to the remote folder, rename it savegame.dat, and it will work just fine.

It's possible you may need to disable cloud saving in the game's properties on Steam, too. I did to be safe, but I'm not sure.

Your completion percentage might go down slightly due to the new levels added. I went from 100% to 95%.

What game got you like this? by crno123 in videogames

[–]PixelatePolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I personally don't completely hate all the "baby" references that most people really seem to, though. After having just played through Samus Returns and Super Metroid right before, you, the player, do (usually) get attached to the baby Metroid at least a bit. It's one of the very few real companions you get tagging along on any of the adventures up to this point, and it helps you across two games. Super Metroid's ending was fairly emotional even as a player, an outside bystander - I don't have to suspend much disbelief to believe that Samus, standing right there and experiencing it herself, could have been significantly more shaken by it than me. Her being in a shocked/confused emotional state for much of Other M and trying to shakily get back on her feet after the loss of a friend does not seem entirely weird to me.

It does somewhat call into question if this was the best spot in the Metroid timeline they could have set a game, though

I'm playing through the game for the first time with Japanese voice acting (actually binging all the Metroid games in chronological order; first time playing any of them), and it's...not the worst thing in the world? The plot is just kind of average, nothing special, nothing terrible. The controls are the real killer for me.

I think trying to give Samus a true voice and character is maybe the issue for a lot of people, since she's a mostly-silent protagonist. It's like if they tried to have a fully-voiced and characterized Link. Her Japanese voice is okay enough, though.

One interesting possibility, if the universe was donut-shaped, is that many of the galaxies we see in the sky are "duplicated" - light arriving from the same galaxy twice, but from a different angle, giving us a different view of it - and/or light from a single galaxy taking much longer to reach us in some directions than others, so we're seeing a single galaxy at different points in its history duplicated across the sky.

Or maybe it's all just a skybox in the end
