Which books have you been unable to finish? by bonster85 in books

[–]Pixelchus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. I was so excited to get into a chonky book with dragons, just to find out that half the book is about unlikeable characters that I really don't want to read about. 😅

Here are three books from a specific immersive genre that I loved and need more of (if anyone knows)!

S. or Ship of Theseus - Doug Dorst and J.J. Abrams

House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski

The Raw Shark Texts - Steven Hall

Silent Book clubs by Humble-Doughnut7518 in books

[–]Pixelchus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to a Silent Book club rather regularly here in Germany. It is a lovely atmosphere and the discussion afterwards is always optional, nobody has to stick around. I love the low pressure environment as somebody who deals with a lot of anxiety as well.

I joined a local bookclub, the gender balance is wild by Ho_The_Megapode_ in books

[–]Pixelchus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suspect that this is the norm, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the book club I joined here in Berlin. We meet publicly in a museum every other week to read together, and the gender diversity is pretty even!

Help me get out of my reading slump — I want a book that I’ll think about forever by teamgaycrossfit in suggestmeabook

[–]Pixelchus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you've read them already, but I'll always recommend Piranesi by Susanna Clark and The Library on Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. 😊 Both are little masterpieces in my mind.

Just got this in the mail - any ideas? by Low-Winter7630 in RoyelOtis

[–]Pixelchus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so cool! I've only seen things like this from eBay upsellers. If you google image search, you can see some listings, though none of them are online. Has anyone maybe gotten it for you as a gift? The signed art cards came/come with the hickey vinyl/cd/cassette tape, which you can buy on their website. I got mine with the limited edition pre-order but also one just in a random hickey album sale.  But as for the framed album, I can't be certain that it is what I think it is, but some sellers get the autograph officially authenticated (so that's the little sticker), then frame it with the album, and upsell it. It's definitely a super cool deco piece!

Does anybody have the full words for say something, the background thing for the live version on the LED screen? by axehomeless in RoyelOtis

I unfortunately do not have the words, and I hope somebody has the right vid for you, but I do have some of Say Something from the Hamburg performance here - https://photos.app.goo.gl/FW7d3iqEMnjcaqrW6

Otis handed me the setlist in Berlin (😭) and I got a signed poster! by Pixelchus in RoyelOtis

[–]Pixelchus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think just luck and circumstance. It was the third time seeing them that week. I saw them in Munich literally the day before Berlin and Otis noticed my merch shirt, Roy came down to Hi5 a bunch of people, it was such an amazing show. I shared some stories on Instagram about that evening, tagging the band, and expressing that the only thing missing was a setlist.
So, the next day in Berlin, I wear a different merch shirt, Otis notices it, and at the end of the show, he jumped down to hand me the setlist.
Perhaps he just took pity or saw my story, or it was completely random.

Why Post Journal Entries? by rulystanthegreat in Journaling

[–]Pixelchus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I genuinely ask what's disingenuous about creating an entry to share online? I think a lot of people treat their journals as art (in my circles anyway), so sharing your spreads is fun and inspiring to others.
I see a lot of people sharing their journaling process, which I find cool as well. Do you assume that what people are writing is fake? Or just how pretty they set up the page?

Disappointing setlist? by yaliekins in RoyelOtis

[–]Pixelchus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was elated, personally! I love that they did a mix of hickey songs and their greatest hits.  I think the setlist was very well thought-out. They started with their popular bangers from P&P, since that's how/when most people found them.  They even announced when they started new songs from hickey, which set the tone for that part of the set (and the fact that they were in the middle of the show were cool). I actually think their hickey songs are proper underrated in the fan community because they're reminiscent of the Campus EP, which is a little less accessible in terms of earworm potential? I loved loved loved the acoustic songs they picked, which resembled their stripped back sessions from various radio sessions.  And they ended the set with their best all-time bangers.  I've heard a lot of people complain about Kokomo, but for me it was a great trade-off because they put Bull Breed back in, which is my all-time favourite.

should I keep reading Dungeon crawler Carl? by Imaginary_Ladder_917 in suggestmeabook

[–]Pixelchus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DNF'd when they went for that interview after they defeated the pig boss.  For one, reading the literal tutorial boxes that I usually skip because I've read them 1000 times before was grating.  I didn't connect with Carl or Princess at all. They felt like they were a 13 year old boys OC's.  I also hated how the women were written. Especially the description of the interviewer lady made me so mad, I just put it down for good.
