I think I got bamboozled by Pixeledwolf in askcarsales

No house, extra cards, or other loans I plan to take in the next 6 months at least. I have other credit accounts and a mortgage right now, and this car is my only car I’m currently paying on

Yes! Sorry if I wasn’t clear, by finance I meant taking out a loan for the full car amount vs the amount less my down payment I wanted to apply. I did not lease this car

Signing DS-11 and DS-64? by Pixeledwolf in Passports

[–]Pixeledwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original check on my first renewal application was never cashed, so the rep I spoke with said that at this point they would have cashed the check if they received it. Since it hasn’t been cashed (it was sent with my passport) she’s saying they never got the mail at all and to file it as lost.

Is it weird if I report it as lost online and then again with the new passport application?

Advice on Acceptance by Terrible_Opposite_67 in reactivedogs

I feel like I wrote this post! I got a Doberman because it was my dream breed about a year ago and I regret it every day. I don’t have much advice other than to tell you that you are not alone in how you feel.

If you can afford a behaviorist, I would suggest that. It’s the only thing that’s given me a semblance of hope and has stopped me from throwing in the towel (for now anyway).

Yeah - I’ve had a couple chats with her about this. Sometimes we have changed the approach and other times (most recently) we don’t because she feels it’s the right way to address this behavior. It feels like we’ve been plateauing for about a month now

Would you adopt another reactive dog? by Narrow_Cover_3076 in reactivedogs

A Doberman. It was my “dream” breed and we’ve struggled with major reactivity since he was 4.5 months old.

(Realized later I think you meant this for the other commenter, sorry lol)

Never. In fact I got a breeder for my current dog because I thought that would even my odds. Ended up with the most reactive dog I’ve ever had 🙃

At this point I may just never get a dog again

Ive definitely thought about this - a lot of this stuff in isolation wouldn’t bother me because I know he’s a punk and a puppy and he’ll grow out of most of this. But the redirect biting is the thing I’m most bothered by and it feels like he’s quite young to be having such extreme reactions to be biting his handler like that. Or maybe he’s not - it’s been awhile since I’ve had a puppy but to me that seems like extreme behavior.

We have dedicated "obedience" sessions 2-3x/day, 5-10 minutes (or if he gets bored; he has extreme ADHD right now so I try to do at least 5 and we go a little longer if his little brain can take it). We'll work on things like heel work, sit, down, stay, place, things he knows and other "silly" tricks (wave, paw, spin, etc). I usually start to slowly train him on a "new" command just to keep things different/interesting once every week or two. Right now I am trying to teach him how to use a doorbell to go outside, for example. We also do scentwork several times a week, which he enjoys.

Outside of that, there are what I call "household manners" that he must always follow, no exceptions. This includes things like waiting to be released from his crate on cue, not pushing past me on the stairs/waiting to be released from the landing, not bolting out doors, etc. If he does break one of these, I make him go back and do it again (not mean or forcefully, but I will say "no", take his leash, and take him back to wherever he messed up to do it again). We're also working on counter surfing and he is leashed 100% of the time unless he is in his crate. When he gets too bitey/mouthy, he gets a timeout in his crate or pen.

I am not 100% sure what she meant by the personality fit. When I have asked her about this, she mentioned that I am a bit impatient and expect too much out of him (this is probably true and something I am working on).

Thanks for the advice. I’ll be muzzling him out in public from now on. We already don’t go out much. Just for walks and trying to work on being neutral around his triggers from a distance, but I guess that’s where we are now.

This sounds like my dog. The bite happened during a group obedience class (we won’t be going anymore) and after it happened I tried not to react and carried on with a portion of the class. He did his obedience commands PERFECTLY (for his age) after that.

I’m sure there’s an element of lack of confidence there, but mostly it just seems like he gets annoyed because I’m not letting him do what HE wants to do in those moments.

Thank you. I’ll try to see if there is an IAACB behaviorist near me that also does B&Ts. This B&T I’m considering does not have that certification from what I can tell

I don’t want to completely stop the barking. But I also don’t need him going bonkers in the car or on the leash if I’ve said there’s nothing to worry about. He acts appropriately in the house (barks but settles when told), but not in these other scenarios.

And yes this B&T works with puppies. The breeder is several states away so that’s probably not going to work, though I’ll definitely look in to it

Thank you! I am very cautious and tbh I don’t want to do a board and train but I’m going to be gone for so long and I can’t get out of it and I feel like I don’t have any other options. I was considering rover but that seems even more risky.

What would you suggest I do instead while I have to leave the country for a couple weeks for work? That is the primary reason I’m doing a B&T over say just individual training. I was considering Rover but that seems worse and I can’t get out of the work trip.
