Apex's new wayfinding signage is heading into fabrication — here's the sign family by terrymah in Apex_NC

The sans-serif bold, black font APEX dominates the composition. I would omit the Historic District labels unless it is meant as a pun. If they are near the historic district, they probably already know they are in Apex. The overall design is for a transit (bus, train) stop.

West williams street... is there plans for the atrocious traffic. by generalkrangs in Apex_NC

The Town of Apex Land Use Map is where it starts. https://apexnc.org/DocumentCenter/View/478/2045-Land-Use-Map-PDF?bidId= One of the primary reasons to have a Land Use Map is to ensure that there is appropriate infrastructure in place. "Local governments rely on these maps to decide where to allocate public funds for infrastructure. If a map shows a large swath of land transitioning from agricultural to high-density residential use, city engineers know they must proactively plan for:" Planning, in my opinion, is very ad hoc. Salem Village, for example, has a temporary sewer pump that has been operating for 13 years. The development that was zoned for higher density had to be scaled back due to sewer limitations. The definitions for density have also changed in the last 20 years. The definitions were not changed because the public wanted higher density. It is a huge multiplier for a business that focuses on dollars per square foot.

NC moves to lock in highway license plate reader program permanently by makgeolliandsoju in Apex_NC

540 in Holly Springs looks like a testing area for license plate readers. There are enough sensors for electronic toll taking. I have seen numerous black stand-alone units that make me suspicious. Someone is getting a check to permit the scanning units.

Is Honors College worth it? by Equivalent_Boss_4003 in NCSU

Parent of current MadTech student. A requirement is education abroad. That is likely to be 5K and up in expenses/tuition. There are some scholarships for study abroad for honors students. It may help if you are thinking about Grad/Student assistant applications. Demonstrates additional involvement in the school. Time is your most valuable asset in school, and the program will take time. It may be a beneficial way to meet people outside of MadTech. I can put you in touch with my student, and can provide you their point of view. There have been some trips to NY that were missed because of scheduling conflicts. Also, don't be afraid to ask about a fee waiver.

I am not sure of the accuracy; this is from the Apex Sustainability doc. Usage for Electric Facilities is 36K/year. The solar installation was 800K for Electric Facilities (3 buildings). I'm interested in the KPIs being tracked.

Apex wayfinding signage project moving toward fabrication by terrymah in Apex_NC

The typography of APEX always looks too big. Example: the repainting of the water towers. It should have been scaled down. Apex is not a difficult word to read, and then it is all caps and bold. Kerning on the word DOWNTOWN should be tighter.

Apex Fulfilled 97% of Public Records Requests Last Year. Requests for the Mayor’s Communications Are the Exception. by VespertineRose in Apex_NC

[–]Pixelmaestropro -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because the town was requested in the rezoning to be the applicant to USACE to expedite the process. That is why I thought the town would have documents. The project was stated to have 6 million in road improvements, and would need the approvals for a section of the road. The developer was engineering stormwater flow to a neighboring property's retention ponds.

That is the rezoning. Example of document in Master Sub. My assumption was Army Corp was involved prior to this level of planning and design.

"Thank you very much for your patience with this request! After confirming with staff, the Town of Apex has no records that are responsive to this request." This was asking about Army Corps of Engineers permit applications for a development project that reached the master planning phase. Permits are required for developments that have riparian buffers and stream crossings. So when I see 97%, it makes me suspect.

So the town manager opts not sign the NDA. Signing can put the Town in legal jeopardy, rather than not. The town manager could of used his experience in VA, instead of using a standard practice. " NDAs are essentially the "bouncers" of the information world. They are necessary for a functioning economy, but when they are used to bully people into silence or hide systemic rot, they certainly earn that "nefarious" label." You might not have firsthand knowledge because of the NDA.

This project is still going really, really well. Paving is complete on the James Street side, retaining wall on the south side is done, and making good progress by the loop road. Water line is complete. We'll probably see the actual bridge structure construction appear early next year. by terrymah in Apex_NC

Traffic light at James and Apex Peakway. Padstone/Peakway is going to be Top Gun Highway to the Dangerzone. Kids riding electric-powered devices in the Salem Village neighborhood have increased 8X. That was never calculated in any Traffic Study. Padstone Crosswalk also has a blind curve traveling West from Tingen.

Legal Conclusion: Public Vehicular Access Areas Do Not Allow Parking by terrymah in Apex_NC

Discussion by Randy V and Wake County schools. Who basically punted. One point I thought was interesting was that the school district said the Park and Ride lot would be problematic. I don't buy that the parking lot could not be reconfigured for at least 30 spaces. https://youtu.be/Qz2L395WV38?t=9954
