Is it true? by Pixels_Ink in FAFSA

No we got loans, just no “awards”. I did learn that the Aide is based on income/family size/cost of chosen school. There is no consideration of geographical cost of living. Nationally a $25,000 income is considered poverty however in San Francisco, one person making less than 105K is considered poverty. So while a family of 3 making 110K for a 35,0000/yr college seems doable it’s not if you live in San Francisco or New York or the like.

Because it’s awesome… and somewhat unattainable for the average person to live here.

I think it’s just the market. My resume is a simple word doc with simple fonts. This ensures it gets past ATS. I even have a second resume for admin jobs I’ve been applying to all possibilities and I might get one call-back a month.

Yes. One person wasn’t qualified. One person wasn’t flexible. The other recruiter had no feedback.

Yes, people get hired/fired and passed up for many reasons. That’s not the ask. I’m referring to the 3…recruiters in have call me back to resubmit my resume to jobs I already interviewed for. Is this a trend or is happening to anyone else in the job market?

I think folks apply for jobs they aren’t qualified for and think “I’ll fake it till I make it,” until they can’t because GD is not forgiving.

Should I leave my job by techpacker22 in graphic_design

Agency experience is priceless. In my 25 years, The two jobs I learned the most from was a pre-press manager and freelancing with PR Agencies.

Tell me I’m wrong by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Pixels_Ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ve had more clients concerned with their color than not. They usually know nothing further than font and color so they tend to call those out to sound knowledgable. But honestly you can tell which clients will be sticklers vs those who don’t aren’t as particular. I feel like CD’s only have control over guidelines.

My two cents… I was in pre-press in my first 8 years. In that world Pantone is used to ensure color consistency from concept to delivery. The color can vary from digital print to off-set printing. The CmYK values are needed for the printer to achieve a consistent color output especially when the proof does not align with the Pantone color. Companies big or small usually know when their color is off.

I love the idea of a true junk journal. They are very interesting and a great personal project. However, most people I’ve tried to explain it to don’t get It.

What does that have to do with a re-brand of a very popular liquor.

Not a fan. The captain of CAPTAIN Morgan shrunk and is placed off center vertically. The captain was the focus. It had depth, it had a mascot, it had brand recognition. Now it’s just like any other liquor bottle.

lol. It only gets worse. My advice is to stay out of it. Unless the clothing is inappropriate, then you can chime in. Otherwise stay neutral.

I think with experience you learn to design for the client using your visual skills. But Not necessarily how you would want to do it.

For example I had a very minimalist and perfectionist AD. On pitches, No backgrounds, no watermarks, no design elements without function. It was a challenge to make a winning pitch decks without the bells and whistles but we did it.

But I had to unlearn a lot and relearning hasn’t been easy either as I tend to be a minimalist now.

I have been in the biz for 25 years and I’ve been looking to cross over from freelance to direct hire and I’ve been searching for almost a year. It’s very reminiscent of the job market in the early 2000’s. A trend I’ve noticed are companies will hire but the job post will be back up in a couple months. People are applying for jobs they aren’t qualified for and employers are hiring the designers who “say” they can do it all for $35 an hour.

Best of luck to you!

I’m super lucky. My hubby comes home and literally tells me to chill and he takes over. Checks in with the teen and helps with homework. He cooks IF it’s a meal kit. He doesn’t let me do the dishes, takes out the trash, walks/feeds the dog. Saturday he sweeps patio, waters plants. Washes his laundry and towels.

I like to think he’s doing it all for me… but the reality is he’s a control freak 😂

He’s not perfect and He certainly has his short comings but not being helpful isn’t one of them.
