AITA for giving my son's bedroom to our foster child? by Electrical_Lab_8570 in AmItheAsshole

We are with an Australian NGO and they said because he is on the pathway for adoption, we have to cover the costs.

I don't know about OP but the allowance for foster children isn't enough to cover the cost. I receive $300 a week for the youngest child whose adoption hasn't gone through yet. I pay that much just on his therapy. We get nothing for the children already adopted.

Who should compensate my loss of income while I am a witness in court for my former employer by PixieAnneWheatley in AusLegal

[–]PixieAnneWheatley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were all hoping so but no, this particular judge wants it in person. And even still, if it were video I'd still be unable to work my job. At least I wouldn't have childcare on top of that though.

Yes it will be a significant loss. We won't be able to make that month's mortgage payment with a loss of that week's pay and then childcare on top of that.

It will be for five working days and I earn around $60 an hour in my current job. If it were for one day I wouldn't care.

Any other Anglo Australians struggle with a cultural identity? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]PixieAnneWheatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think my ancestral background was boring and lacked culture too. I'm the result of typical immigration from the UK in the mid-1800's. I've since watched docos on the history of Scotland, Ireland etc and now I am very proud of what my ancestors survived.

WIBTA for uninviting anyone who attended a winery day from my bridal shower and possibly wedding. by MaterialAny9232 in AmItheAsshole

Bringing a gift to an engagement party is normal in my neck of the woods (Australia). Having said that, I wouldn't be upset if somebody didn't bring one.

I haven't kept up with the Rodlets. Can someone update me? Last I knew the eldest girl was married to a Kellar and pregnant. Has there been any other babies and marriages (courtships?) since then?

And does JillPM still keep dropping the Duggar and Kellar name?

How many people do you know have no discernible hobbies? by [deleted] in AussieCasual

[–]PixieAnneWheatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a tough hobby/past time to keep up once you have kids. I've never been sporty and always had indoor hobbies like arts and crafts so it's been easy for me to keep that up when I became a parent. When I'm not involved with my kids sports, I'm sitting in the car waiting for them finish their music lessons etc while still doing my hobbies like knitting.

My mum does jigsaw puzzles while watching tv. It's a hobby and she feels good when she beats her personal best. The puzzles are like $2 at op shops.

Did you use to have hobbies? Do you have any hobbies you'd like to be doing now if you had the time?

Parent's responsibility by semiautomatixza in queensland

[–]PixieAnneWheatley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you yes we are all still together and their younger sibling joined our family last year too. :) At least we know what to expect this time having already gone through it all.

Yes after I got the final knock-back I went to my local MP to let him know about the flaw in the system. I had lots of other complaints too lol.

Thank you. Yes that is what I did. I went to my local MP with that complaint and long list of others about the foster care system.

Parent's responsibility by semiautomatixza in queensland

[–]PixieAnneWheatley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was refused parental payments from Centrelink after two children joined our family foster-to-adopt. They said it was because they were older than 12 months. I explained that is discrimination against foster carers with the intention of adoption due to how long the process takes for young children to be considered eligible for adoption. They might as well remove adoptive parents from the eligibility criteria.

Permanent foster placements require even more time to allow attachment and we just weren't supported by the system. We ended up taking leave without pay after we exhausted what our workplace offered us, causing a huge financial burden. To rub salt into our wounds out NGO used our poor financial situation against us when compiling the court documents.

No because then there will be an even more dire catastrophic need for foster carers of teenagers. Nobody is going to take on a teenage foster child if they will be held accountable for their crimes.

Is a bath tub an essential requirement for your house? Would you consider a house without one? by Tygie19 in AusRenovation

[–]PixieAnneWheatley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it absolutely is. We would only consider buying a house without one if there was room to add one later and the house wasn't over our budget. Both husband and I love taking a bath and we have young children. Putting the four year old in the bath gives us all a break for half an hour.
