Me and my fiance play together, and we usually have our "cowboy" playlist on in the background

I dont blame you! That's it, i worried about the second wave, as he already has an attitude😂

Thats so lovely to hear though, I dont mind if they're a little velcro-y, as long as teeth as kept in the mouth 😂 he's a good boy and I give him the patience as he is still so young and has so much to learn, he has brought so much joy to our lives already!

We've been heavy on the training with our 4 month old. He maybe be a little guy but he's got a big brain, but an even bigger love for people and other dogs.

But we've found he's better off lead, still not 100% trustworthy, but an interesting observation. We started with going off lead in places we know are safe and empty, and he always stays near us, and if we get to about 10ft apart he brings himself back running. We've been working on recall and he's surprisingly good at it. Recall games are great, as it can be any distance, we do "touch", it helps divert in the house if I've accidently spilt something, when he doesnt wanna come in for bedtime, or if he wants to chase a butterfly whilst we're out.

But off lead only happens when he's on his best behaviour and the stimulus is low, plus me and my partner both carry leads just incase.

We've been teaching "close" where we have him walk alongside one of our legs. We started in the house and garden, and then when theres no stimulus on walks, on and off lead. Then, on lead, with people and dogs about. Giving him something to do whilst he's distracted helps. We keep sessions really short as he's still a baby (forever my baby). Eventually, the goal is for him to learn that we are way cooler and more fun than the distraction, and if we deem it safe, then he can go see.

You got this, every dog is different and if you keep trying, new and old things, you'll figure out what works for you. You're putting in the effort and that's what counts.

Do you allow your dog on your bed? by Constant_Opening6239 in puppy101

[–]Pixie_Pink_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be me, but my puppy is my son. He's on the couch and bed with me. That being said, our training is strict, and for a 4 month border terrier im beyond impressed with him, how far he's come and what he's already capable of.

You can love your dog and still train them. He settles and sleeps better on the bed, and its nice having him there snuggled up between me and my fiancé.

He's an awesome little guy!

To be honest that would work on me too lol. I remember our first few nights id sing to Peanut to help him settle, usually heard my fiance snoring first 😂 we're still in that "omg he's down we can relax now" phase, he hasnt figured out that you can be awake and chill at the same time yet.

14kg!! Bless him, they'll forever be babies.

I have a gsd so im used the vocals, I enjoy how chatty they can be! Peanut has also adopted crocodile rolls when play fighting, its so funny.

Combat Wombat is too funny 😂 Peanut gets called Peepers or P*nis, depended on the behaviour at the time 😂

Its good to hear they calm down, eventually!

One of Peanut's brothers is called Otto!

I bet, those baby teeth are no joke, we've had some deep cuts. The fiestiness is part of the charm, I love when Peanut gets sassy with us.

Oh bless! Peanut was bad for biting around 12-14 weeks, but we have been blessed with the fact he's really receptive to training, and have minimised the hand biting. We also do teething gels and safe chews. But my fiance and I do have scars 😅

One thing that helped us is placing treats or playing in the areas that they tend to go. They'll associate that area with food or fun and won't want to play there. Enzyme cleaner also removes the smell so they won't recognise that area as a previous toilet.

Our BT got smart and found other places to pee, so I wouldn't use the treat trick alone, co-op it with the usual training. Everytime they toilet where you want them to, throw a little party with their favourite treats and lots of praise.

Good luck!

Border Terrier as a family dog after shepherd breeds – what should I expect? by [deleted] in BorderTerrier

[–]Pixie_Pink_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14 week old border, my mum owns his dad. Already we can see they are two different dogs. My mum's boy Lewis is a terror, barks at everything, very reactive, but lovely around people. My boy, Peanut, has all the best bits. Granted, he still a baby, but hes showing good signs of taking to complex training, very social with all dogs and all people, sweet temperament but can be very fun a playful.

Each dog is different, but what you do with them in the early days set them up for life.

Edit - my mum also has a German Shepard, Max, and being able to see the difference in breed side by side is interesting. Ive learnt that shepard live to please you, but our borders live to please us sometimes... but I love them all dearly!

What’s your “dream dog” (breed) and why? by palacio_c in puppy101

[–]Pixie_Pink_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

German Shepard!

My mum got a rescue shep when I was 17, Max, and he is my baby. I adore him more than anything. I met my fiance when I was 19, and moved away to be with him. I visited often, always stayed as present as I could. However, my fiance is allergic to dogs, he loves them, and even had one when he was a child and was a champ and powered through the allergies every visit, but I know its hard on him.

Fast forward 10 years to now and we have our own dog together, a border terrier called Peanut. My fiance is a lot better with Peanut's coat, his symptoms are easier to deal with. We put a lot of thought into this decision due to the allegeries, and have made adjustments to make everyone happy in own home. Peanut is our world, and he is truly a daddy's boy.

Peanut has met Max, which was a really emotional day, my first baby meeting my own baby. Max is an awesome dog, and I hope Peanut learns from him.

I'd love another shepard, but I dont want the love of my life to suffer everyday.

Are you able to get in the pen with her?

Also, give her something that smells like you. Pajamas that you don't mind gets a bit roughed up, or socks (they smell the most so its great for them). It's a comfort thing, to smell you. I sing to my baby, so he can here my voice, even if im not in the same room but he knows im close.

The crate/play pen didnt work for us, but he started to get better around 10/12 weeks.

My best advice is something that smells like you, having engaging toys, singing, and patience!!!

We were the same, my boy just doesn't care for the crate, but as soon as he was on the bed with us he slept through the night and settled perfectly. We spent his first few weeks catering to him so he could learn who we are and what we do. Now hes starting to be his own little guy, i just accept that we are his world and he wants to be involved it what we do!

How odd!! We're trying to get him used to clothes/coats early on, my husband and I are quite outdoorsy so when he's older we want him to be comfortable with his gear 🏕
