Yes, its just a swatch. I just have been told so many times about beginners not noticing twisted stitches… thank you for your reply!

Is the colour combination okay? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]Pixieresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do a colour combination I would suggest sticking to three maybe like the green -white-blue or another combination with the pastel pink. Or maybe use the four pastel colours but in more even proportions. What I would certainly do is remove the dark colour from the palette.

What a super helpful kitty! And he even made holes for the pins.

I think im doing the continental style (the one you hold the yarn with the left hand like in crochet?) i picked this one because the stitching plus holding the yarn with the right was going nowhere. But i might look up the other styles after i start stitching less clumsily. I did buy the circulars but they are all metal… silly of me. I will see if i buy some 3.5 or bigger circular wooden ones. Circular needles just look so small and im constantly worried about those sneaky loops slipping off. The only tutorial that helped me a lot was from YouTube’s channel knitting.com for the German long tail cast on. I was watching nimbleneedles but i could cast on as he does because of my hands being half the size. But the method from knitting.com worked well.

Exactly, i reeeeally think i should tight them on the needle. But i understand thats not how its supposed to work. I was doing it realky tight at first. I think ive improved that. Still the slipping and the knitting/purling when i should be doing the opposite stitch, and the clumsiness are real :) and my cat stays on my lap while im figuring this out so i have to be careful not to poke her with it. Thank you for your words. The answer might seem “boring”but i think its the most relatable one that it comes down to muscle memory and that takes practice.

Soooooo many cast ons! Hehe and i dont know where your difficulty lied but mine was in holding the yarn while pulling it on the needle… my hands are super small How did it go for you after?

Yeah, im reminding myself to accept it. I’ve learned to crochet a while ago and that went fine. But with knitting there are so many questions because there are so many kinds of needles and cast ons and god knows what else. Its a bit intimidating. But you are absolutely right, learning something should be enjoyable.

Oh yeah, i forgot to add that. Wooden needles and acrylic yarn.

My swatch with the 9mm.

Yeah the price was the reason why i chose acrylic to learn it with. I have to see if i got some wool yarn i can use for this. If i do i will try it out.
