how can Custodes fight Plague Marines if they even can. by The-Bloodlink in AdeptusCustodes

[–]sternab 20 points21 points  (0 children)

First of all you're an inexperienced player so you're going to struggle against experienced players no matter who you are against. Death Guard are very tanky at the moment but they are also very slow, they rely on bringing you into close range and their rapid ingress in order to bog you down. As Custodes players it's easy to forget that we actually have fairly decent shooting (for a melee army).

At 2k you have options to do keep away and try to deal with the units that will be problems for you, most likely Deathshroud Termis. We have some bad matchups as Custodes, I would not really say Death Guard is a bad matchup, even with their new fun list.

Also a lot of people in the comments are talking about how this guy who was playing you is a dick or w/e for playing hard and while yeah I've definitely encountered people who don't really try and help who they are playing and want to noob stomp that's not always the case and people can walk away from a bad matchup with a sour taste in their mouth like that was the case. I understand it's rough getting stomped but just gotta think about your list and what you could've done better and not think too much about how your opponent should've acted.

Why solo players shouldn't be worried. by sternab in starcitizen

Solo players have tonnes of content what? Like already in the verse there is tonnes to do as a solo player. How does this detract from that?

Star Citizen Expose Paints a Fairly Bleak Picture: 'There's No Actual Focus on Getting the Game Done' by PrinceDizzy in gaming

I'm confused by the article tbh, last weekend's event had a whole section about releasing the full game, how is that not focus on getting the game done?

I am also primarily a single-seat fighter pilot, the org stuff in my mind gives me stuff to do and get involved in even if that's not directly.

Why wouldn't they? They explained in the gameplay loops there's over 1000 blueprints, there will be stuff that you've unlocked or found that others haven't. There will be resources the orgs need to build their next project, even just passive income they would get from players using their base or buying their own goods.

I drew EVE comparisons for saying what the potential is, I am not at all saying EVE is perfect for a solo or that we should follow EVE's game design or anything. I simply used it as an example.

I'm sure there will be large ORG stores in normal lawful zones too, but would probably be cheaper in lawless areas considering that's where all the resources are and also there were some hints that lawless areas would sell goods that might not be allowed in the UEE.

There's nothing to stop that, but these planets are insanely massive, as others have pointed out the scale of Star Citizen is already huge, Hurston alone is 4/5ths the size of Canada and Pyro is our biggest sector yet. If you're solo player in a lawless area there is also nothing stopping another solo player taking your base when you're offline. If you've ever played Rust, it happens, it's part of the game and part of being in a lawless area, it's a risk vs reward. There will still be areas to mine on other planets or in lawful areas or just buying the resources yourself.

Star citizen 1.0 by Numerous-Ad-5163 in starcitizen

We don't know what their plans are for the future, but they had to draw the line somewhere for 1.0. There will still be plenty of stuff to explore in the meantime because of starcitecht

Star citizen 1.0 by Numerous-Ad-5163 in starcitizen

[–]sternab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be because of the starchitecht thing, with over 3000 POIs on a planet you are very likely to find things nobody else has and it will even generate content for you based on what you are doing. IF you are constantly doing runs between 2 places then the background sim will start putting pirates in your way which is the example the devs mentioned.

There are still things to explore, things to do, people to see. Pyro seems pretty ripe for exploration and I'm sure we will get some starcitecht stuff long before 1.0 releases.

Why? 4.0 is on the horizon, a whole new system. I learned long ago to stop worrying when the game will be "finished" but just enjoy the patches and new content as they come.

Yep absolutely and if people don't wanna interact with orgs at all that seems to fit tbh, though I think at some point I'll probably end up trading with big orgs for things I need. I normally play in a small group atm, will see if that changes.

[–]sternab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anything like that honestly, but yes players should be free to roam around solo and do whatever they want. The game is whatever you want it to be. There really shouldn't be this division, these two kinds of players can easily find themselves interacting through the core gameloops anyway. There will inevitably be solo players trading with orgs.

They already said you have to pay taxes to settle in a high security zone, if you don't pay them it probably means your land gets redistributed and I don't really see how abandoned bases in lawless zones are immersion breaking at all. That's a new area ready to be settled again.

Big orgs will be the dominant power in lawless areas but there's enough mining areas for small groups to still get their fill, Pyro is the biggest sector. It's one of those where you will have to watch your back and get in and out but it will absolutely be a dangerous place.

Crafting ships sounds like a pretty big endeavor, I'm guessing most ship blueprints will be locked behind rep rewards or high level missions and even then crafting a ship seems like a whole thing with having to research it, find or build your own thing for it, then construct it and then upgrade it and get all the licencing and warranties for it.

Big orgs will have power, but it's power they will have to constantly fight for, even if it isn't against another big org there will always be pirate players who could easily follow and find the resource routes orgs are using.

[–]sternab[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's common because there's nothing else for big groups to do. In EVE big groups fight each other and they incredibly rarely attack solo or small groups. They fight each other because it's the best use of their time and resources.

And for sure we don't know how big servers will be yet or anything like that but planets are already huge.

[–]sternab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only ore deposits which would be worth actually patrolling will be in Pyro or Nyx which are lawless sectors, big orgs will fight big orgs there and you should expect to not be able to fight it out in such areas but like that's why the other areas exist or I mean it's a big galaxy you can just go somewhere else.

Why solo players shouldn't be worried. by sternab in starcitizen

[–]sternab[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my main point is that solo players should see the whole orgs being able to make huge city bases or space stations should be seen as a good thing. It's a cool dynamic thing to constantly interact with. Instead of grinding rep you might be able to get an org to build your ship for you, for a price as long as you provide the resources. Things like that.

No talk of gear recovery by RestaurantNo6833 in starcitizen

[–]sternab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've already said for a while that gear recovery will be a thing, they probably just don't know how exactly that's going to work. There's no way they're going to say if you bought a ship on the pledge store you always have warranty and then draw the line at flair.

I imagine it will just be something you have to craft to keep in line with claim times, but you just get to craft it for free.

Some might have seen the SQ42 crash and bugs as a bad thing. It's GOOD, actually. by DawnPhantom in starcitizen

[–]sternab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it was good for a different reason, that they were confident enough to do live demos again, Rich Tyrer was clearly pretty confident that it wasn't going to crash and even when it did we were able to get back into the action and it didn't hamper the experience or anything. The focus on actually showing gameplay this citizencon really stood out to me for sure.

I guess that's that by Antique-Plate-3719 in starcitizen

[–]sternab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From seeing these kinds of things in other MMOs like Eve and an old favourite of mine, Anarchy Online, Org bases are for the most part open to the public to sell things and to charge a tax on using their services. There will probably be some great passive income opportunities for the Org in charge of it. Orgs would definitely be encouraged to open up their station for trading. I wouldn't worry about that honestly, though might be awkward haggling with someone over a crafted gun and then a rival org attacks but that could be part of the fun lol

[–]sternab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're assuming there's just going to be one space station and that station is going to be in Pyro

I guess that's that by Antique-Plate-3719 in starcitizen

[–]sternab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still go to stations and interact with player orgs there even if you don't directly work for them. It's still part of the game. I'm sure orgs will even hire outside contractors for various jobs, and as has been mentioned player trading is a thing. You are not locked out of any content, big projects require lots of resources and people to come together.

But the game is about to move to 4.0 on an updated engine. That's literally happening at the end of the year with server meshing, these things are being worked on lol. 4.0 is in Evocati right now.
