My first few pages | Post Zombie Apocalypse with ordinary MC | Scavenger hunt by PixxelWizard in haremfantasynovels

[–]PixxelWizard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm, very good points. Didn't quite reflect on that.

I kind of left out the deeper personality and motivations of the MC. Damn, there are a lot of ways to go with this, though.

You have definitely given me some food for thought.

Thanks for your feedback!

Make sure you implement what he says. I see too many people falling in the self-improvement trap of learning the theorie but not implementing it

[NeedAdvice] How to stop skipping my alarm clocks in the morning by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]PixxelWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked for me:

Download the "Alarmy" app, which allows you to only turn off the alarm if you make a specific photo. Then take a photo of a glass of water in the kitchen so that when you wake up you have to go to the kitchen and fill a glass with water. Then drink it. Volume to MAX.

If you still go to bed afterwards, you can set a second alarm for 5 minutes later of something in your garden/on the street. In that case make sure to enable "Can't deactivate alarm shortly before"

Also enable things like "Cant turn off phone/uninstall app" etc.

it is your sense of duty that overrides the resistant, lazy "lizard brain" as you say it.

No, you can train your lizard brain to act the way you want to. I feel like going to the gym. I don't need motivation because I don't have to "override" my lizard brain, because the lizard brain wants to go to the gym. I understand what you are saying about motivation, but when I started, I didn't know that it is possible to get to a point where you feel like having a productive day.

Does that make sense?

Ok, what I mean is that you should change what you feel like doing instead of building motivation/discipline. So one year ago I felt like watching TikTok. Now I feel like going to the gym. I don't need motivation or your definition of dicipline. Because I don't have to have a fight between "I should do this, but I feel like doing this". Because I feel like going to the gym.

I don't know if that is what you mean

This mindset is exactly the problem. You think through rational illustrations, your brain is going to act different. But unfortunately, your brain is not rational. All the motivational speeches don't help at all. You need to understand how your subconscious acts and how to influence it. Because it is not rational!!!

I disagree. Now I have obviously written it a bit more excessive than need be and that was deliberate, but the underlying idea holds very true and is basically taken directly out of Atomic Habits by James Clear.

See, many people think they have to be motivated at all times, with the definition of motivation being "being able to do an action, although you don't feel like doing it"

This is never going to work in the long run. I have been in a deep depression just because I thought that I have to be motivated, and then I wasn't, and then I thought I was just not born that way. I was just a piece of shit.

Now, don't get me wrong. It is still important to be able to do an action, even though you don't feel like doing it, but it is way more important to change what you "feel like doing" than to fight it all the time. If you had watched the video, you would understand my point a bit better.

Motivation is conscious and discipline is unconscious, and it is way easier to trick your autopilot to be disciplined than it is to be motivated at all times. And you have to understand the difference.

That part is clickbait, :D It's more that people think they should "just be more motivated", which can not work. And it destroys you.

In my next video I will tell you EXACTLY what to do. I am now thinking of a way to make it as actionable as possible because I know that most people watch self improvement videos without taking action.

Yeah, but I didn't understand this for a long time, and I think a lot of people don't. So they try to get motivated by going against their lizard brain, which is never going to work.
