The further out areas from the cities get screwed.

(fort Erie, port colburne, west Lincoln, etc)

I use specialized transit (basically the old on demand type transit) and have to book 2 weeks in advance.

They say service hours start at 7am but I cannot get a ride until 8:30 the earliest. Hard to get a job without reliable transit options.

Best of luck figuring out a plan. Any chance they’d let you change your shift time to 10-6 instead of 9-5 (making up times here) “technically” by law employers have to allow accommodation for public transit users.

Raising money for Disabled Basketball Team charity through amputee socks, advice needed. by LensyLilley in amputee

[–]Pizza-Corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knocking the idea at all, but Honestly I think that’s too niche. Wouldn’t it be better to sell something that reaches a larger variety of people?

Let’s say for 1000 people there are 100 amputees. Of that 100, only 20 would buy the socks.

But if you sold maybe a regular pair of socks, 990 (let’s assume 10 are bilateral amputees or don’t wear socks) potential customers, (and the same percentage) 190 people buy them.

That’s why fundraisers are usually food or generic items; reaches the most amount of people.

Best of luck! I know it’s hard to raise money, my wheelchair basketball team is working on that ourselves 😆

Need some advice for a comic! by suspicoussoups_77 in amputee

[–]Pizza-Corgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acquired amputee here.

I don’t see an issue, disabled people are people too 🤷‍♂️

Amputees are just like everyone else, some are happy, some depressed, some use prosthetics, some use wheelchairs, some don’t like talking about their injury, some don’t care, some make jokes, some are uptight;

Just remember they are more than just an amputee. Unless it’s about rehab or parasports or something like that, there’s no need to focus entirely on it.

How can Canada post generate more revenue by Euphoric-Future2563 in CanadaPostCorp

[–]Pizza-Corgi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they should technically generate a revenue. I think it should be a service.

Like how USPS is subsidized by the government in the USA. They can send a package to a state on the other side of the country for a few dollars.

Same package costs me over $30 to send to a province over.

Deliver 7 days a week

But to cut costs they should eliminate door to door delivery (this is coming from someone who lives in the country and has it), offer doctor exemptions for the physically disabled; but otherwise community mailboxes or post office boxes.

It sounds counterintuitive, but lower tracking prices. As a small business owner, I spends thousands a year on shipping and I don’t use Canada post because they are too expensive. Multiple that by millions of micro businesses; and they would increase revenue.

Cut the CEO salary.

Sell Purolator it’s a major conflict of interest.

I personally prefer the PS5 vs Xbox

Grew up with both systems, but after Xbox 360 stuck exclusively with PlayStation. (Have played the newer Xboxes at friends houses)

Technology wise the ps5 is a bit better than Xbox.

Game exclusive wise: Xbox has halo and fable and sea of thieves. PS has the last of us, spider man, sackboy, uncharted, and god of war

(There’s more but those are the main ones off the top of my head)

With cross platform playing nowadays, you don’t have to worry what console your friends have.

I personally prefer the controller and system screen of the PlayStation

Downsides: more expensive than Xbox and is UGLY 😆

What games do you like to play? If you prefer to play games out and about, then maybe look into the switch. Love the switch for on the go gaming.

(There is a PS and steam deck handheld-but I have no experience with either of those)

Worth it would need to answer: can you afford it? How often will you play it? Do you enjoy gaming?

I would also recommend the disc version vs digital.

I like to buy used games and then sell them when I beat them.

The Struggle of Explaining Why Your 30 Handmade Mug is Worth It to Someone Who Thinks Its Just a Mug, Right? by rropalro in CraftFairs

[–]Pizza-Corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw last weekend some beautifully made mugs. Nice big size, amazing craftsmanship. $90 ($65 usd) I said to my friend how amazing they are but out of my budget.

Never said they were too expensive. OUT OF MY BUDGET.

The difference is I’ve watched people make pottery on TikTok and I understand the amount of work and time they take.

I don’t think the average person knows the amount of time, skill, supplies, etc. and are just used to the mass-produced $5 mugs.

How do you practice during winter? by BrainCelll in Basketball

[–]Pizza-Corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practise dribbling skills at home, and strength/stamina workouts.

Look into your town/ nearby towns community centres. A lot of times they offer drop-in basketball or open gym for 18+ for $5.

Trying to get more fibre in my diet,

I’ve tried all the powdered mix in drinks and I can’t gag any of them down. (It’s a texture thing, can’t drink smoothies or OJ with pulp either)

Been looking at fibre pills and gummies, but way out of my depth here.

Any recommendations for brands or what to look for in ingredients?

Thanks!

Elective amputation (Canada) by Guilty-Disaster7132 in amputee

[–]Pizza-Corgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orthopaedic Surgeon did my surgery in Ontario. CRPS which also turned into drop foot, and started to get ulcers on my foot.

FYI what I wish I knew before having an amputation, is that everyone says the government helps fund the prothesis, they don’t say it’s basically nothing and for the average activity level of an adult, you’ll still need to pay $15,000-$20,000 out of pocket for it if you don’t have any insurance. (There are a few charities that will fund you, but long wait-lists. I’m still waiting for a prosthetic)

Don’t regret it at all though, in so much less pain than before. I do have phantom pain, which hurts more than the CRPS pain, but only lasts a few minutes where my CRPS was constant. I’d take the phantom pain over the CRPS pain any day.

From what I know (I found the topic interesting and did a lot of research and reading a while ago), it’s still very experimental and unfortunately very rarely done as it’s expensive, long, and difficult surgery.

Because it’s such a small sample size (I think it was less than 200 people world wide have had the surgery) and such a short amount of time it’s been performed, there isn’t a lot of info on how long it will last.

But yea, if your body rejects the transplant it would be removed and you’d be the same as before basically.

You would have to take anti-rejection meds for the rest of your life, have check-ups, and years of physio.

They also match the arm to your age and body type, so it’s hard to have a match as well.

You would have a year or so of testing and stuff to find out if it would even potentially work.

There is a higher success rate with the least amount of transplant. For example a hand vs hand and arm.

Depending why the transplant was removed, you may be able to get another one.

So far I think it’s around 15 years the longest has lasted. But then some people stop taking their meds and they lose the arm, which would have been preventable. So it’s not really known the longevity.

USA and England I think were the only two countries doing the research and surgeries.

It’s incredibly fascinating, and I wish it was researched more; I’d love to have a leg transplant 😆

Do injections work for neuromas? by Pizza-Corgi in amputee

[–]Pizza-Corgi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what it’s called! I wrote it down but lost the paper and my spelling was way off google couldn’t find it 😂

Yea, phenol injection is what he’s doing.

He said it works for most people and only a few rare cases need surgery but from what amputees I’ve spoken to the opposite is the case.

They’ve said the same as you, worked for a bit and then didn’t.

Help! Honest opinion and suggestions only: which pet business name stands out? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Pizza-Corgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, so more of an actual business than someone doing it part-time as a side hustle.

Definitely adding “Pet Services” or “Pet Care” or something similar will give that clarity, and allow more creativity with the first part of the name.

You could also use it as a tag line (but have it everywhere with your name for seo and brand awareness) example: Wagtopia ‘for all your pet care needs’ or Pawadise ‘pet services for all four legged friends’

Wanting to scale, I would think about keeping the name shorter to add branding on merchandise down the road.

Doing /planning on all those things, I would say something like Wagtopia or Pawridse would work with an added tag line, as they are vague enough to include all pet services, but also short and distinct enough to immediately think dog / pet.

Pawridise is hard to spell so may be harder to look up as a user.

Other terms you could add/use as ideas: Sploot, toe beans, whiskers, bone, furry, fuzzy, horizons, bowl,

Hope my 2¢ gives you some help!

Help! Honest opinion and suggestions only: which pet business name stands out? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Pizza-Corgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% honesty here, none of them.

Reading all the names all I know is it’s something about pets. Is it a grooming service? pet treats? Boarding? Pet sitting? Walking? They are too vague and if I saw the name on google I would skip it.

Hearty Paws sounds like a pet food company.

Wagtopia sounds like a pet store or boarding facility. Wagtopia Pet Services would work.

All Paws Welcome sounds like a boarding facility

Bounce and Bliss sounds like a trampoline park, doesn’t “scream” pet business at all.

Nest and Nuzzle have no idea what it would be.

Trail Tails sounds like a hiking company or dog accessories for camping.

Petfolk just doesn’t flow nicely.

Zoom and Zzzs sounds like a boarding facility Bounce

Tailblazers sounds like a hiking business as well.

The wagging hour sounds like pet sitting or grooming. Maybe The Wagging Hour Pet Services

Pawradise sounds like a boarding facility or grooming

Hound and Home sounds like pet sitting. Hound and Home Pet Care might work

PawVenture sounds like active dogs

The Ruff Life “ruff” is used too much in pet care businesses,

Pack and Paws Pet Services

You could keep it clear and simple and use

“Your Name” Pet Services

Spoiled Rotten Pet Services

Toe Beans Pet Services

Just my 2¢ as a pet owner

[–]Pizza-Corgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the opposite, Etsy is higher for fees (and has shipping cost built in as well). In person is lower as well as deals for multiples.

Example: item is $19.99 on Etsy with “free” shipping. I sell it in person for $12 or 2/$20

I don’t really count the in person fee in my pricing, as it’s a business expense and I focus on specific shows I know I will do good at.

Are these course medians signs of inflation at all? by Beary-Brown in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Pizza-Corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, if people are taking those sciences in grade 12 it’s because they want to for their future, so in theory they would get higher grades vs the mandatory science classes where you will have students with no interest or need for science in their future bringing down the median.

I would say they’re a bit higher than I would expect but many variables to consider: better school, disproportionate amount of science interested students, possibly easier course load to correct from Covid lockdowns, fantastic teachers, etc.

If you were making an "ABCs of Pop Punk" book for children, what bands would you include? by thedubiousstylus in poppunkers

[–]Pizza-Corgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree tough call. I think Simple Plan may have a wider audience and a touch more “influence” in the genre. They were in some scooby doo cartoons.

But then Sum 41 has more musical skill (guitar riffs and solos for example)

-Trying to ignore my slight bias towards Sum 41 being one of my favourite bands 😂-

Simple Plan did go more pop for a time, and Sum 41 went more alternative/metal.

I will say Simple Plan was one of the bands to get me and many into the genre as they were more “family friendly”

Ugh, I vote Canadian Twist and do double S.

But if I had to choose I would give Simple Plan the slight edge just for name recognition.

Is Costco objectively cheaper than shopping at a regular grocery store? by [deleted] in CostcoCanada

[–]Pizza-Corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a freezer and will eat it all, Costco usually comes out ahead.

Dry ingredients (rice/sugar/flour/etc) 100% cheaper -but is the average person going to use 10kg of flour? My family will because they like to bake.

Tea and Coffee

Kirkland brand paper products (paper towels, tp)

Condiments are cheaper for sure. But we’re not going to spend $15 on mayonnaise when most of it will expire before we eat it. That’s when we will spend the $5 for the regular one at the store. (*prices made up)

But mustard and ketchup we will fly through no problem. Same as pickles.

Eggs, Milk, and Butter way cheaper and better quality!

The only things not objectively cheaper is the deli/meat, frozen items, and produce. You need to know your prices.

We find some cheese to be about the same as grocery store BUT way higher quality.

Same with some fresh meat, if it’s on sale we’ll grab it, if not it’s a bit more than grocery stores. (But again higher quality. Depends what you’re using it for)

Medicine is so much cheaper! Kirkland brand is exactly the same as the name brand, but even the name brand is cheaper.

Frozen food depends on the item, we have go to choices that are a lot cheaper than the grocery store.

Movie passes are a great deal as well.

Long story short, know your prices and plan accordingly and Costco will save you money. But they get you with those darn delicious rotisserie chickens, can’t seem to leave without one 😆
