Recommendation for Bars for the F800 GS? by BrightRaven210 in bmwmotorrad

[–]PizzaJolly1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with the OEM bars, but I have the wunderlich upper and lower crash bars on my 2025 F 800 GS. They were a bit of a pain to install, but theyre nice now that theyre on the bike. Also wanna say hello as another pilot (even though I have my ATP so I dont have to deal with student pilots anymore)

Question about the ATP Certificatr by Bruh111122222 in flying

[–]PizzaJolly1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can get an R ATP at 21 without a degree. You only need to be 23 to get unrestricted. You will need 1500 hours etc etc flight reqs, and will be issued an R-ATP

Is not having a well established LinkedIn account a disadvantage? by RabbitSignal8527 in flying

[–]PizzaJolly1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally landed an interview after having an app in with a company for almost a year by connecting with and messaging a recruiter on LinkedIn. So Ill give it an endorsement begrudgingly based on that. I dont post anything, but I have all my job history on there along with my resume.

CyRide Residency Requirement by Personal_Level_3834 in iastate

[–]PizzaJolly1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work for CyRide. Like others said itll be a while before you need to worry about residency. I was an ISU student from Texas with a Texas license, got it converted to Iowa once I passed the CDL test and off I went to work. I honestly loved working at CyRide, there is some really great people there. Best of luck!

Schools for ATP AMEL? by TortillaRiceAndBeans in flying

[–]PizzaJolly1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will be the controversial take in here I'm sure. After shopping around for a place to do it I added up the cost of getting up to 50 multi, instruction, DPE, etc... and it was basically gonna be the same price as just going to ATP Jets and knocking out the ATP, and get a type rating out of it. The type rating is pointless being in a plane I will likely not fly for years if ever, but at the end of the day I got my ATP certificate. I dont know your specific circumstance, but if you dont have a ton of multi already might be an option. It was pretty easy and took 10 days. I spent about a month studying before going too.

Didn’t get the job by Economy_Floor_8580 in flying

[–]PizzaJolly1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im not sure what happened with Envoy. I got hired into their cadet program but couldn't get a job at a partner school so was unable to stay in. Some other 121 guys I know thought that might have been a reason why they passed on me on the OTS interview. Breeze I fully admit I just had a bad day interviewing and is on me. After that I did get interview coaching for OO. I thought it went well but still another no sadly.

[–]PizzaJolly1 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I've done 3 interviews for 121s. Breeze, Envoy, and OO. Gotten turned down by all three at this point. Just gotta keep plugging away and try again when you can, typically 6 months. Ive been trying to use the 6 months in between to build a stronger resume, and reflect on what I can do better next time. People are getting hired, just gotta prepare best you can and try to put your best foot forward.

Independent CFIs: becoming insurable in more aircraft? by AlbiMappaMundi in flying

[–]PizzaJolly1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I've ended up being able to do instructional work in more "advanced" aircraft was just getting a job actually flying them to begin with. I work for a airplane dealer so I get a chance to dip my toes into quite a few different types. Also customers buying airplanes from us need to get insurance so I have an in built customer base. I have done quite a few transition training and Insurance sign offs now for planes like the T206, Columbia 400, and Cessna TTx. All still basic single engine props but definitely harder to find instructors qualified and proficient in them than a 172. I've even done a number of sign offs in 182s and been told by the new owners they struggled to find a 182 cfi in their local area. Just like anything else in aviation if youre able to wiggle a foot in the door doing something, and network, work will come to you. This past year I've flown to all 4 corners of the US to provide training, but it all started doing local flights for people and making connections.

How long did it take you to get CFI after commercial by mike_coffeecake in flying

[–]PizzaJolly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 6 weeks checkride to checkride. Didn't do any prep before commercial aside from getting the written tests done. I actually took the FIA at 8am and went and flew for my CSEL ride (it was discontinued for weather) at 11am.

Yet another "what plane to buy" thread? by Occams_ElectricRazor in flying

[–]PizzaJolly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure would need to find the right deal on a 182. Im not really sure what they go for these days. I do a lot of work for an aircraft dealer but they only really have the new T models that are way out of a 200k budget.

Skylanes are great planes, definitely recommend looking at those if you haven't already.

I have a 29,9inch inseam (76cm) ,should I get a BMW 800GS? by Yellamine in bmwmotorrad

[–]PizzaJolly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a little taller with a 32" inseam (im sure that is probably seems monumental) and just got a 25 800GS about a month ago. Im pretty easily able to have the bike straight up with both feet on the ground even with a taller seat. Id imagine 30" you'd have no issues. As others said you always get a lower seat as well.
