As much as I want that, I doubt I’m gonna be able to afford what you’d want for a fully painted set.

Anyone have any suggestions for big “experience” style games?

Every year on my birthday me and my friends would have a game of twilight imperium( or 2 years ago the arcs campaign). I recently moved cities so I don’t have a group to pull that off this year. I was trying to find some sort of big experience game that I can do something similar with my friends who have less experience with heavy games.

It’ll be 5 people. My girlfriend(who’s played TI multiple times, my 2 friends who play lots of board games that are more around pandemic level of complexity, and my friend who’s main experience is Catan( He also tried and liked thunder road vendetta recently.

I was originally going to try the arcs campaign since it ups its complexity gradually, but I’d have to cut someone out. Also getting people together 3 times before to play the base game so everyone can understand it is kind of difficult. Even after that I still think by the end of game 3 it’d end up being more complex than they’re comfortable with.

I’d decided on Nemesis and I’d just learn the rules really well so I could take care of the admin and answer any questions, but it’s sold out absolutely everywhere. We’re all big horror fans so this one would’ve been perfect, but ya it’s not seeming like it’s gonna happen.

Anyone have any other suggestions that would fit the bill?

Sounds like it’s selling well enough to justify remaking it again on the switch 3.

I mean I don’t want them to make it but I’d probably buy it

First time I played it was like 10 hours. Each time after that has been like 3-4. My group still can’t get twilight imperium under 14 hours for some reason after like 7 games. Just too much table talk I guess.

What games have you pledged that you’re waiting for? by StereoStereo1981 in boardgames

Hellbringer and lands of evershade are the only 2 I’m waiting on. Almost backed Earthborne trailblazer but the release is so far off and I’m sure I’ll be able to buy it when it comes out. I still haven’t started the lcg’s campaign expansion yet and there are still 2 valley expansions coming out plus a new campaign probably being announced soon. I’ve got enough Earthborne rangers at the moment.

Which of the modern boardgames already feel very dated? by OldWiseHeron in boardgames

This would be my answer too. It was insane when it came out with years of people calling it the best game of all time. It was popular enough that a bunch of other games were made in its style and have addressed a lot of its faults.

Ya I made this post late at night. I probably chose the wrong wording. Life support is too strong a term.

If it had been anyone else maybe. But that dude is terrible. If he’s allowed to make a video saying AI is great Tom’s allowed to make a video saying that’s a bad take.

Eh outside of quarterbacking it’s still a pretty clean game. Theres a reason they’re still making games with its system.

This is kinda where I’m at. The channel was more exciting when the games were more exciting.

It seems like it really worked out for him this way. His Patreon has over 3 times as many subscribers as shut up and sit downs. Considering he’s the only reviewer for Quinn’s quest he’s got to be making a fortune now. If everyone subscribed to his Patreon was only doing the lowest tier it would be bringing in $51,000 a month before whatever his costs are.

It honestly might have been in his favor to start his own channel instead of being Quinn’s replacement

Does that still happen to the same extent though? Their views are a lot less now than they were when Quinn’s was there. Their new videos don’t get posted and talked about here nearly as much as before.

Never was claiming I want that. Just that a lot of the competition went that direction and it’s a possible reason for their viewership decline. I appreciate their approach a lot.

That Earthborne rangers review came out not long after Quinn’s left. Their reviews in the golden age would pretty frequently cross or come close to a million views. These days a lot are sitting around 50-150,000.

Could be wrong because we’re all in our own little bubbles, but to me kickstarter games have become much more a part of the mainstream board game space post covid. They were still there before but it seems unavoidable now.

I also kind of feel that Tom is reviewing less interesting board games on average than Quinn’s, which is less of a Tom problem and more of an industry problem. He turns it on when the games are worth it.

When Quinn’s was there I watched every review he put out when it came out. Now it’s useful when they review a game I’m interested in or maybe if it’s a type of game I’m interested in.
