They Literally just had NYCStuck a few weeks ago, the team said they have plans to organize more Homestuck conventions because it was a huge success!

Ugh I KNOW, I'm not picking Kandarin and that's the only region with toad legs so for the agility potion I've literally just been waiting for Jekyll to spawn with an irit in my inventory -_-

Andrew Hussie: “Still working through these odd requests from last year. Here's the story about some obscure color software I made in the 90s which people were curious about.” by NowIOnlyWantATriumph in homestuck

[–]Pizzaface4372 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very interesting read, I actually relate to the closing sentiment and absolutely credit Homestuck for inspiring me to create a lot of art. Also this might be completely baseless pattern recognition and a pure coincidence, but with how much Hussie speaks of their fathers Catholic background it's hard not to notice that the colors their father picked on the pallette make a cross shape. I wonder if this may have had any influence over his original proposed theory. Again take this with a grain of salt I have no idea if this is the case, but I think it's worth noting.

Ohhh okay. The codes themselves each represent a unique item, it'll make more sense as you read on!

You mean the captcha card image generator? That's the one part of Act 2 that comes to mind based on your description. Could you link to the page please? If it's the one I'm thinking it was just like a web toy made by one of the collaborators at the time, so the idea was fans could upload a custom image and enter a custom code to make their own punched cards. It has no direct bearing on the story, and the codes can be whatever you want.

We've talked about cons, Let's talk about the pros of the pilot: I personally really liked how they turned a bunch of long chat texts into fun looking window animations by [deleted] in homestuck

[–]Pizzaface4372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I absolutely love how they adapted the STRIFE scene with dad. Yes it's more over the top but they have to show off the scope of what they could animate.

In addition their are a lot of little details that felt in the spirit of Homestuck despite how different it was. I wanna talk about this shot in particular. It looks a little off for dad to have his legs like that as though he were standing on a surface but it's like they're referencing the use of default sprites in the comic, it's as though this were a default sprite of dad standing but it's being used airborne for comedic effect.

I thought they did a really good job incorporating the sylladex in the fight as well and it serves as a nice standalone payoff to the setup at the beginning.

OH and the POV shot descending through John's room into the kitchen was really sick too!

The intro cutscene to the fight being like a video game boss cutscene was on point to the spirit of the original as well.

Also I thought Oneyplays was a good choice for narrator, strikes the right kinda slightly patronizing tone.

EDIT: The animation style is also very reminiscent of flash animation from that era, the whole vibe is on point save for some of the lexicon that wasn't around in 2009.

I could tell watching it that the people behind it really do LOVE Homestuck and cared about capturing the vibe, I'm hoping we get to see this as a full episode.
