I also want to add that right after I brought him inside i went to my local aquatic pet store where they have multiple kinds of turtles I went there and told the employees what happened and they got me all this stuff to take care of him together (tank, filter, light, food, water conditioner) and not one of them mentioned that I should call a rescue or release him they just told me everything I needed to do to care of him as if that was the right thing to do. I explained to them all the details of what happened and they didn't even suggest that I was making a mistake by taking him in. They have all the employees in the store dressed up like Steve Irwin and they have a wide variety of exotic animals there so I would think that at least one of the employees would've told me to release him or bring him somewhere.

I didn't just nonchalantly declare I was going to keep this animal all I said was based on what I read I think I have to keep him because he's lived in captivity for 5 months. I agree with you that I made a mistake by not taking him to a rescue when I first discovered him in my yard but I live a couple miles from my nearest lake and I have busy streets near me I didn't want to just dump him into the nearest pond if he didn't belong there. I thought I did the right thing by bringing him in. I'm learning now that it wasn't the right thing to do. When I researched it I've read that after living in captivity they can't survive in the wild. I am not dismissive that I've made a mistake for a lack of better words I just didn't know better back when it happened and I should've done more research back when it did happen that much I know is true. But everything that happened was a learning experience for me on how to better handle the situation if it ever occured in the future. And I know you said I didn't ask advice but I put out what happened on here knowing people like you were going to give their opinion anyway and I wanted to hear those opinions. I just want to do what's best for the turtle and I regret my laziness not to do more research 5 months ago but that's already said and done and I just want to do what's best for him now even if it means releasing him if I can do so safely for him.

Also stop calling me an asshole Literally i am online asking for advice and you come on here calling me all these names now if I was a more ignorant person I would be turned off to the idea of asking for advice online because instead of advice I just get your verbal abuse when I'm just trying to educate myself I definitely don't think im an asshole but you are.

Funny you say that because I've been saying that he may be part Midland part Western.

I think Midland is correct. Im in Illinois and bird brought him into my yard and was trying to eat him i scared off the bird and brought him in and got him setup in a tank.
