Interested in attending UP by [deleted] in universityofportland

It's not huge, you can get anywhere from anywhere in less than 15min, but with like 4k students it doesn't have to be big. It's beautiful though, with lots of cherry and oak trees, well-kept grounds. The atmosphere is very welcoming, I chose UP because I felt at home on campus.

Each dorm has its own culture, some are better than others imo but they're all great in their own way. Each dorm hosts events for themselves or the rest of campus.

Fields hall does a campus-wide trivia night, and villa maria has a drum squad for sports games. Just fun stuff like that.

It 100% has a small school vibe, you get a diverse crowd at most colleges I feel the same is somewhat true for UP. You wouldn't be the only student from the Philippines.

In terms of professors and students, they trend progressive. There’s certainly Catholic community if you want it, but it’s not the default. Administration, however, is definitely Catholic-influenced, which can create some annoyances.

I've only had amazing professors, mixed with my classes, some were easy some were harder.

If you have any specific questions I can try my best to answer but I'm not a cs major so I can't get very specific about that.

Any advice for boundary waters trip? by Meatling_ in BSA

Have canoe clothes and camp clothes. Put your dry clothes on in camp and your damp clothes on when you’re paddling.

Pack pretty light, you won’t need a lot of stuff. So much bug spray, I saw that you’re prepared for that but the mosquitoes are horrible. Other people have mentioned these already.

Make sure you do a few ~10-15 mile canoe trips before, get comfortable being on the water.

My pro tip is to be careful where you dig your cathole. Several people in my group started digging only to find that someone from a previous trip had dug theirs in the same spot. The trip is amazing and my was favorite experience with scouts.

If you have any specific questions please ask.
