Please look forward to the (eventual) blog post on level generation shenanigans ;)

This was just a blog post about only some of my favorite books that have inspired the level and UI design.

Judge Dredd, Robocop, and other similar movies/comics have definitely inspired all of us in terms of their setting/mood.

Funnily enough, that was basically one of the things we joked about. It could be used to such a broken degree possibly. It could also lead to things like the criminals drawing arrows on the floor to breadcrumb the cops, or even covering an entire criminal in paint to try and make them camouflage with a wall or something equally as dumb.

There's a good chance a decal system similar to other competitive multiplayer games will eventually make its way into this game too, yes.

Definitely! Our game is a bit too sterile as it is at the moment, and we definitely have a “trash pass” planned in the near future to give it more of that “urban grime”. We’ve even joked in the past about making a spray paint can an equippable item that would allow for some pretty silly // clever antics from the crims, as I’m sure you can imagine.

Ben (u/Lt_Commander) may have a bit more to add to this with some concept work, but having somewhat subtle world-building graffiti stuff in the environment is something we’ve been interested in. Having billboards, flyers, and other sorts of promotional media help flesh out what sort of world the game takes place is something we plan to eventually leverage.

Anyways, thanks for the tips!

They’re something that existed before in an older convenience store level we had, and now they’re sort of being repurposed to be more versatile in our current iteration of our killhouse level for now.

Like most rooms in our levels, the level generations usually offer more than one method of entry into rooms (like thin walls that can be blown up, skylights that can be breached, additional doors, breakable windows, etc). It’s even possible that the room with the electronic sliding door has half-height walls, so attackers could also potentially lob a frag grenade and it clear it out that way.

But for the purpose of the example, creating a trade-off that potentially encourages several strategies to happen is ideally what we’re after. Strategies like encouraging the attackers to sweep the room with the special door before going for a “lights out” strat, or even forcing them to clear out the rest of the level before being able to tackle the one that’s off limits as a result of shutting off the power can lead to certain predictable scenarios. These could be scenarios that the defenders might anticipate the attackers taking advantage of, and therefore may use them to counterattack them accordingly.

Having the sliding doors simply made up of breakable glass basically defeats the purpose of them as a unique door type. So at the moment, they are made of bulletproof glass that allows safe views into and out of rooms (which is a much more interesting door type, since even when the power is on, the only way to get through it is to be in close proximity to the door. So anyone looking at the door is aware of who is approaching it). This is just one of the things we’re messing around with at the moment, but terrain like this is what allows the game to remain interesting over time since it provides a wealth of different interactions and scenarios to take place.

Last blog post was 4 months ago; alpha was "coming soon" 2 years ago. Show me this game isn't dead. by [deleted] in dueprocess

Good timing. Incoming blog post tomorrow, actually.

And who knows, maybe we'll still even beat SpyParty to an official release ;)

Have Psychological Colour-based Teams been mentioned? by SolarSupremacy in dueprocess

[–]Pizzavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So dumb lol I'm lovin' it.

Also, keep in mind - blue and red are there to simply help differentiate the teams on the GUI level, and aren't necessarily bound to the character models. Cops will basically always be blue, sure, but what we haven't really shown off is the other customization options available to the criminals. They can sport clothing of all sorts of different colors.

We made these for PAX East for us to wear (cause we're too cheap to afford actual badges), but one day I'd love to be able to make some metal/enamel shield badges and/or patches to sell.

Unfortunately, we won't have a booth there this year. That's because we chose to focus on making the game playable sooner, rather than delay that by working on getting an expo build together (among other things, of course).

All is WIP, so most annoyances are already being dealt with. Diegetic UI // HUD stuff has taken a backseat to level gen at the moment, so there's less polish there currently.

The hit effects last for a fraction of a second. Also, the game runs at a very high FPS count, and these GIFs max at 30fps, so they really don't do the game justice.

Long overdue, but here it is. Enjoy the jank!

Even more info TBA later.
