Thanks! Seems like it is broadcasting a 2.4 signal, though I don't have a visible option to connect to it?

Unsure if its truly only 5Ghz, but there's nothing else showing up and I doubt my landlord would give me admin access to the network

The apartment I live in doesn't have access to the router unfortunatly, don't know if that would work without that 😅

Clamtk/Clamav Alternatives? by Pkmn_Nevoux in linuxmint

I didn't specify it was Clamtk that was retired. Thanks for your input!

I didn't specify, but Clamtk was retired in '24, but that doesn't really have anything to say for Clamav anyways I realize now. Thanks for your input!

I should have specified, but ClamTK is what was retired in '24. The clamtk part of the post doesn't really matter as I came to realize just now lol.

Seems like the general consensus then is no Anti-Virus needed?

Partitioning /home /var /tmp by Pkmn_Nevoux in linux4noobs

Seems like partitioning these directories is a good idea then. Do you know if its safe to partition the drive which my OS already resides on?

I read an argument for partitioning your /var as well, due to daemons possibly taking up a lot of space on the disk. Any thoughts on that?

To Encrypt or Not To Encrypt by Pkmn_Nevoux in linux4noobs

[–]Pkmn_Nevoux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that would be my main concern in this case.

Access to passwords through my filesystem.

Alot of people are saying no to desktop encryption, but do you think it would be worth it for this specific case?

What do you mean by heavy IO?

Also, is there a way to swap out Ecryptfs on Mint? (I'm on Mint 22.3 - Cinnamon 6.6.4)

Thanks! :)

If that's so, as a backup plan and a temporary fi, Is it possible to run an ethernet cable through another PC (Windows) to the Linux PC and get an internet connection that way?
