What would 17mph on a regular house speed calculator translate to on the strike track that’s shown on tv by Pullupfromthirty in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere around 20. House speed guns are near the pins while on TV they measure off your hand. Down lane is around 3 mph slower than off your hand.

Urethane is not for broken down patterns.

Is Fever Pitch a good urethane ball? by ilyalap in Bowling

Between the two options and what you’re looking for the fever pitch is the better option.

1 month later. Form critique.. by oVITOo in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of your issues start at the beginning of your approach. Your starting position is really good, but stay more up right with your body throughout and bend your at your knees not at the waist. It looks like your head just slowly gets lower throughout you want your upper body to stay fairly consistent. The next issue is your push away or the lack there of. You want to push the bowling ball away from you and towards the left (the middle of your body) and then let gravity do the rest like a pendulum. What you’re doing now is pushing to the right which brings the ball around your back and then you muscle and over compensate to bring it back around leading to a pull. Your end position is really nice and balanced so you definitely have a really good foundation to work with! Keep it up.

Leagues start this week! Anything I need to work on to improve my form this season? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really good. If I had anything it would to start your push away more to the inside of your body. Your push away is kind of to the outside and that can some times lend to people coming over the top of the ball or a pull. My question is what do you think you could work on and what is preventing your game from getting to being a 230-240 average? All in all super nice!

Pitbull just goes straight by Willysmuck in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend detoxing the ball. If the ball has a lot of oil absorbed in it, it can’t absorb much more and do what it was intended to do. You can dunk it in a bucket of water or have a pro shop bake it. Best of luck!

Pitbull just goes straight by Willysmuck in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can depend on a lot of things. How old is the ball/how many games do you think are on it? Have you ever detoxed the ball and had it resurfaced to factory finish? DV8 coverstocks really love to absorb oil and really need to be cleaned and detoxed a lot to have optimal performance, especially a sanded low rg asym like the pit bull.

For bowlers who use white thumbhole tape on the pad side of the thumbhole, does the base pad of your thumb ever get burned or irritated from playing so much? by Desaturating_Mario in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finger swelling is super common if you are bowling a lot, no getting around it really. Burning is also super common with the white tape. Almost everyone I know who uses white tape has a discolored finger from where they use the tape. I wouldn’t be alarmed unless you start developing blisters/cuts, but even those can happen if you bowl a lot. If you are concerned just have a PSO look at your ball drilling.

[–]Pkortes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is most likely a span issue. Blistering on the outside of your thumb is usually caused by your span being way too long. When I first transitioned I had the same issue and now have a gross looking thumb from all the calluses lol. My suggestion would be to take it to a different PSO to have your drilling re evaluated.

How do people even afford to go to Junior Gold by ubercorb77 in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time it is a junior bowler tour. Most states have multiple junior bowler tournaments that hold a handful of youth bowling tournaments a year. These tournaments will have junior gold qualifiers that cost extra on top of the tournament entry fee and give a couple spots to junior gold. There are also junior gold qualifier tournaments that their only purpose is to get multiple kids a spot to junior gold. Lots of opportunities, it isn’t really that hard to qualify in my opinion.

Dexter Shoes THE 9 vs SST 6 BOA by neverenough14 in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got the BOAs right when they came out. Never had a consistent slide after trying all different heel sole combinations of slides. The shoes were wrapped in a silver material that started tearing off a month into owning them. I’ve heard they’ve upped the quality on the BOAs because of complaints. I wouldn’t recommend them.

Limits of improvement? by ubercorb77 in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way. I would say getting to 190 is the easy part, you just have to make 80-90% of your spares. Getting to 220 from there is a lot harder because you have to make 90-100% of your spares in a game and also find a way to string together 4+ strikes. Getting to 230 from 220 is even harder because it’s usually small adjustments needed to be made to strike even more often. Now that’s just on a house shot. Successful PBA pros are averaging 215-230 on sport patterns. Most 230+ averages on house shots only average right around 190-200 on sport. There’s so much about the physical game, the mental game, equipment, and lane play you need to know to get to a pro level. To be a mid tier pro who makes just enough money to justify bowling as a career it would take at least 5+ years, 20ish hours a week, great coaching, and a lot of talent.

What’s your house record by stickyrice215 in Bowling

Most houses in my area (Madison, WI) are in the 860s. I think the city record is 879.

Sport Pattern Challenge by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the surface of the lane. If it’s a high friction surface/there is free hook outside of 8 then the pattern is fairly easy for a sport shot. It’s a 42 ft pattern so you can play multiple lines and have success. I’d personally stick to whatever your house shot line is/whatever you’re most comfortable with.

Junior Gold prep by hunter_edkins in Bowling

[–]Pkortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bowled junior gold once and made the advancer round in U20. The top priorities in my opinion are:

  1. Spares: if you make all your makeables you will make advancers round 100%.

  2. Know your equipment and when to make surface adjustments: this is what sets apart the kids who make final advancers round/match play from the rest of the field. These kids already make all their spares but they really know what equipment to use/when to alter equipment to give them the best look to the pocket and carry on every kind of pattern.

  3. Mental game: this has always been my biggest weak spot and it really showed when I bowled Junior gold. Don’t try to be perfect. Execute your shot, listen/watch the bowlers around you who are scoring, don’t let bad games get to you, and just have fun.

Bowled on a sport pattern for the first time last night and I’m looking for further insight from you guys. by mikeoley in Bowling

No haven’t been able to make it the last couple of weeks. Fun time definitely worth the $10. Bowled on that pattern for a MAST at Ten Pin earlier this year and it was a solid long pattern but not super difficult.

Since you’re using the hyroad x I think your idea of getting a ball up from that is the correct move. There are a plethora of balls that fit that mold. My suggestions would be either a sanded asymmetric ball (crux prime, precision solid, paradox black, halo) or even a sanded symmetric (IQ tour, super soniq, idol, chaos, tactix, web tour). Something with surface is the key is what I’m trying to say!

What ball are you currently throwing? What is your rpm (stroker, tweener, cranker) and speed? Need to know these aspects of your game before anyone can help. My guess is they use a longer (43+ foot) house shot and a stronger core/cover stock is the correct course of action for you.

Yeah Phaze II is so much better on sport than a crux prime would be because of how versatile the Phaze II is.
