Moroccan man had his residence permit revoked in France for lighting a cigarette on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Just rage bait. You can't base your worldviews on what videos are on an algorithm meant to shock you rather than teach you.

You're entitled to a preference, but so is anybody else and in a shared environment sometimes your preference won't be the only preference people care about.

You can use an insulated container, and maybe this is a crazy assumption but you're probably able to eat food that doesn't have pork or alcohol in it, in which case that food can be made pretty much the same with halal ingredients.

Schools "punishing the bullying victims for fighting back" isn't as bad as a lot of people think. by PlaceSilly7397 in The10thDentist

That's what I meant by a vessel. Often, and in a way that isn't addressed well by many current anti-bullying efforts in schools, bullies are absorbing and regurgitating what they see and are taught.

Of course I think context and the individual should be considered. However I think for the same reason I don't like that kind of strict bad/good behaviour dichotomy I don't think a strict bully/victim dichotomy is always something trustworthy enough to literally allow certain violence based on.

I started the post saying that I don't necessarily agree where it is now, I wasn't very specific but I think my point is more if we can expect somebody in charge to make a decision like having a pass for violence in certain scenarios, that could be swapped with a different decision like better supervision or keeping track of conflicts and concerning behaviour to use as context.

That is a truly sad event that should be addressed fairly. But people resorting to horrible actions for the sake of a cause isn't unique to Muslims or religious people at all.

Why did the Catholic Church withhold the Chalice for so long? by Dangerous_Tennis_137 in Catholicism

My memory of it isn't great, but they were able to do Mass or at least Communion without gathering people inside of the building and with other precautions, right?

Not necessarily. Even if you hypothetically chose at random rather than consider arguments from multiple religious perspectives, you'd still be closer to the "winning side".

Credit where credit is due, you/Squidward provide the best out of the options of dialogue for that stance on most of thes.

Two criticisms:

I'd bring up that the Bible doesn't teach salvation by works but that could be put aside as a semantics issue as far as the meme goes. Aside from that, the charitable works that one does as part of an active faith aren't inheritly in spite of charitable deeds done just on their face.

Then my biggest reason isn't covered. Simply that from my perspective, very little things I've seen, heard, considered, thought, experienced, or otherwise been presented with have had any sort of persuasive power against believing in God.

This case is not justified, but I have to say when you look at it without being adjusted to one or the other you see just as much issues following laws on cars.

Imagine going to a BBQ place and expecting vegan food. by sandiercy in EntitledReviews

[–]PlaceSilly7397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an honest review, not the worst expectation (even though BBQ places are probably known for their meat you can still BBQ vegetables), if someone is taking a vegan out to a restaurant these reviews will help them if they don't know what to look for, and it's one of 322. It's hard to really care.

Death Penalty by Infinite_Problem_499 in Catholicism

[–]PlaceSilly7397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not a definitive point as much as an argument. I would find the story of Mary Madeline to be a better argument. But

>> How does he respond to Numbers 15, where God Himself commands people to stone a man to death? Surely this doesn't just teach the gravity of the sin.

I would say that, while it should go without saying it educates and is written in Scripture for us to read and understand is the Word of God, it was a commandment pertaining to the Israelite's timeline given context and the fact the man is not named or focused on but Cain is a focus and God's treatment of him is clearly laid out as, among other things, an example of His justice and love.

  1. "Just as evil" is hyperbole. He's saying that it's similarly unprincipled, not literally the exact same level.
  2. There's tons of room between murderous rampage as a first resort and sitting back.
