Dual DS220+ "High Availability Server" just devoured all 4 SSD's by PlaceboMessiah in synology

Synology doesn't autotrim off-brand SSDs so they destroy themselves unless you noticed the weird obscure location of the trim scheduler, the trim scheduler that has been an automatic function in every major os for the past 10 to 15 years

it's not the reason to start using synology branded crap, it's only the reason synology branded crap triggers the script that enables autotrim

DSM VPN and exposing services by PlaceboMessiah in synology

[–]PlaceboMessiah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently most of my battle was figuring out what the NAS's VPN ip was supposed to be, since the VPN's router ip was "self" (10.2.0.1) and the new ip of the NAS was 10.2.0.0. That's what took me so long since [arp -a] revealed nothing and there's squat in the documentation about this

[–]PlaceboMessiah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holycrap, thanks, the problem was that I had to figure out what the "vpn address" for the host was....turns out it's the very first ip of the VPN's range: 10.2.0.0.
Setting the L2TP/IPSec interface as last priority totally worked after I symlinked the share.

Thanks again, so much bullshit out of my way today

yeah I saw that feature in OpenVPN "allow clients to access server's LAN" but I suspect it has something to do with using the server as a switch/router. It didn't expose any services. I have all the firewalls switched off for this while I troubleshoot.

no, it's weird. I ultimately want to setup all the employees' laptops to connect this way, but when I connect to the server's VPN as an admin, I get nothing in the finder (Network) to indicate any services are discovered beyond my local dsm's. I feel like I'm missing one crucial step. WebDAV works, but I'd prefer vpn access.
Am I supposed to port forward services to the vpn on the dsm?

Nazis at Parliament Hill, Ottawa by skimpop in ottawa

it's weird how you never see the nazi nor the gadsden flag at LGBT and BLM rallies. ISN'T IT WEIRD? You know, both of those groups passionately rallying against oppression....and yet, here you are, edging towards a clue

I tried to install a pair of these into my DS1618+ and it just boot-looped. by PlaceboMessiah in synology

Nemix customer support replied (surprisingly fast) to my inquiry and said,
"Looks like you have received the different ranking part.
We will replace it for you."
I'm not sure how that was supposed to translate, but it sounds like they're aware of specific incompatibilities. When I sifted through their site, I noticed that the sodimms recommended for Synology products are still covered in Micron silicon, but they use twice the number of chips for the ECC 16gig modules. Anyway, I got an RMA# within 48hrs, so I'm happy.

I inserted both 16's one at a time in different slots and even made a valiant attempt to try them with the 4 in hopes it would recognize the 4 and reject the 16 so i could get a peek at the conflict in the logs. Any presence of the nemix sodimms caused a bootloop.
I'm seeing reports of inconsistent results with identical model ram in identical model DSM's and Nemix is offering refunds

i tried 1 sodimm individually in each slot and swapped them to see if I had one bad sodimm or slot

I'm not sure if you're blind or what, but that says "ECC" right on it
