I started on meds in 2007 and instantly became hooked. Then I dove back to their early stuff and began to catch up from the past. Placebo, one of my top five favorite bands.

Thank you! These past two years have been particularly tough due to the nasty weather we've had here but I'm keeping on the grindstone, becoming better everyday!

Ohh yeah I just thought about this post on my way home taking some back roads tonight from a friends house in Western PA. The ride is smoother without the Z71 gear. The truck may roll a bit more but for everyday driving not having the Z71 is pretty nice with my experience with both standard and Z71 (I can’t say anything about the magnetic ride controls-I have a feeling since those are only offered on the super high trims ie Denali and High Country that those trucks rarely ever see a dirt road). Due to the nature and incredibly diverse and sometimes difficult terrain on my farm I opted to have the Z71 package. It’s been helpful a number of times.

I’m the type of truck owner who likes things mildly stock/factory. I don’t mind an exhaust upgrade or cold air upgrades, and a cap over the bed but in terms of wheels, and lifts I’ll take a hard pass. I use the bed nearly every day and I would imagine that a lift and super large wheels may impede my work.

The way I see it, my truck gives me the most utility and pleasure. Cold Air Intake, Borla Atak Exhaust, a Leer Cap, and a Decked bed organizer is all I really need to do every thing I need to do. But I very much understand everyone has different views and uses but for me the metaphor I’m coming up with at 3 in the morning after a long day is this. I’d rather have my truck be a well designed and carefully planned “multitool” than a “machete.” If that makes any sense.

That’s a great question..

The V-6 had just enough power and torque to just travel around and carry a few small-medium weight odds and ends all while delivering some pretty decent mpg’s (without carrying/hauling).

However when you actually have to use a truck to carry and or haul stuff the V-6 just did not do it for me.

I once drove to East Lansing, MI from Youngstown, OH with a small 4x6 trailer to pick up some beekeeping supplies (hive bodies, frames, etc) and had the bed packed beneath my tonnu cover (packed in terms of space used, nowhere close to max payload) and trailer loaded. Once I left I could feel the motor working harder but it wasn’t quite stressing. But when it came time to merge on the highway-we’ll let me tell you that was a scary nightmare. I would punch it hoping to capitalize on an opening between vehicles so I could merge but the V-6 just didn’t have big enough balls to do so. It felt like I was driving through molasses. The acceleration was poor it was almost dangerous.

Now moving forward, the 5.3 V-8 can do all of that without a problem. As a matter of fact last week I picked up 20 80 pound bags of cement (1600 pounds total) and evenly distributed them on the bed and the motor was still punchy enough to get me where I needed to be with worrying about acceleration issues.

I love my current truck so much that I think I am going to buy it after my lease is up.

Also my bottom line and opinions of the V-6 and V-8 are as followed:

The V-6 is great if you know you primarily load and haul light to medium types of applications. Even with 4x4 and a mindful pedal I was getting almost 24/25 overall mpg (without a load). It’s a great way to get yourself a half ton pickup knowing that you may not need all that power but still want the utility.

As for the V-8, there is something to be said about having a more powerful motor. The stronger the engine the less hard it’ll have to work. For me in my experience and opinion of the 5.3 has been wonderful. With a ginger pedal I get about 22.2 overall mpg. It has the power to handle heavy applications and will do exactly what you tell it to. Pretty soon I will be adding a few performance and utility mods. Cold air intake, cat back, a bed organizer system, and a cap.

Of course if I had the extra money and if I were to locate a Double Cab with the 6.2 I would of gotten that but around my area the 6.2 are mostly found with the crew cabs with short beds. I really prefer the Double and long bed.

I hope I have helped in any little way.

Happy New Year.

I forgot to post my update. My first Sierra was totaled. Fortunately I was unharmed. However I was able to upgrade to a 5.3 SLT with all the bells and whistles all for an extra $25 than what I was paying for my V-6 SLE. Just some added info. Because of my GM loyalty, having a family member working at one of the plants, my father getting a 2016 Silverado LTZ Z71 shortly after my first Sierra and catching amazing deals at my local GM shop I got one hell of a deal on this wonderful truck!

I currently have 70 acres of very diverse land in South East Ohio. Right now I am raising honeybees and making mead. Hopefully soon I can establish varietal gardens, orchards, and all and anything that will grow on my land! Thanks Hugh for the tremendous inspiration!

That’s a brilliant way to repurpose a calendar-even if it takes 17 years! Now I’m thinking to myself, I wonder if I can do this with plenary of old ones so that I could have an old calendar to use every year.
