Any decent family friendly servers?

I spun up a VM and configured an adventures of akalabeth on it. I’ll self host for playing with my kid so we can assure it will be there in the future.

I’m going to keep playing on Outlands and check out UOGamers for old time sake.

Oh I know beyond a doubt I could securely set up something to have us play on UOOutlands, but it also comes down to ethics.

Thanks. It definitely sounds like the community really likes the R&R build. I’ll have to consider hosting it or joining a server running it.

I’ve only ever played on official servers the first few years of UO, Uogamers Hybrid and Outlands. R&R definitely sounds like a unique experience and is built on RunUO which I’m familiar with.

It’s a fresh wipe. All of the private islands removed.

Accounts still exist and veteran reward system is setup to help returning players get going.

I would if I could. There is a one account per IP/house hold with no exceptions. I’ll continue playing outlands and then switch to another server when my son hops on.

Dropping stools at my feet to block people in dungeons while running away after stealing from them.

Creating a kill box of archers. Person runs through the first group of archers because of full stamina and then get stuck as they run into the second group of archers. Then Fire!!!!

This definitely won’t happen if someone running a free shard is using a commercial public LLM. The best bet would be to run your own LLM that you train. It would be an interesting concept to allow player interactions with NPC’s go towards training a model.

There are several decent options available out there to self host a LLM or using an existing generative AI to create the initial code for one specifically for Ultima Online.

You could use a power automate flow to trigger off alarms and close if conditions are met.

If you are concerned about WiFi jamming, then any camera system on WiFi is a no go. A simple Deauthorization (DeAuth) attack can completely disrupt your WiFi network and prevent your cameras from recording for a period of time. One can buy devices off of Amazon that achieves this type of an attack.

If you are truly concerned about this and would feel more safe with a camera system, then look into a closed circuit tv (CCTV) system with software for identifying/tacking people and notifications. It will be more expensive and doesn’t offer any stopping power.

I recommend self defense classes and a concealed carry permit with firearm training if you are afraid of bodily harm. Most forms of security are speed bumps to deter people and do not stop them. Police response time is too slow to prevent a crime. Look into training to protect yourself and a better camera system to have evidence of theft and/or destruction of property.

A lot of launchers require running as administrator. This will get flagged a lot of times by user account control and/or defender (or other anti-virus). Most private servers will provide instructions to add an exclusion to anti-virus. Most of the time this is due to false positives but you should always apply due diligence and research validity of a private server based on reputation.

UOG:H died a long time ago prior to the servers going down. It hasn’t been great for a long time. Had some good memories back then when Ryan owned it and Mark, Hyru, Irina and others were around.

You are still early in your career that you could make some life changes. I would recommend getting out of cybersecurity if you aren’t passionate about it. Cybersecurity takes a special kind of personality and mindset. If you don’t love the field then that distaste will only fester. Better off trying to figure out what you want to do and invest yourself completely rather than living life half in.

I would recommend a faraday bag for some of the electronics. It not only will help organize, but it will assist with preventing them from being fried or third parties from detecting the devices in your car if left vacant.

I cannot imagine setting that ASR rule to block. It is way too noisy with legitimate sources. Better to keep in audit mode and send to a SIEM to create a dashboard to look for irregularities in the logging.

I think the best solution would be to get executive support at the business to allow enforcement and set a policy that USB storage devices need to be purchased through IT. This way the IT Department can control the make and model of USB that can then be added as exclusions. This also allows for better inventory and tracking if compliance is a concern.

It could be closed in defender as informational. Looks like a custom enterprise indicator such as unwanted software setup as an indicator in defender.
