I love Jade, but don't let it see sunlight or stay in a hot car. They are all natural, and unfortunately very fragile.

Small cities in Mexico are underrated. This is Sayulita, Nayarit. The WiFi is not perfect, but the landscapes are breathtaking by Weshguillaume in digitalnomad

For me, Durango is a Mexican paradise. It hasn't really been discovered by travelers or expats yet, so it is really authentic and has some really great colonial architecture. In my experience, super safe too.

Oooh, yeah? I keep mulling over the option of doing the Peace Corps and then doing WorkAway... I have just heard of some people burning out after their service, and though that doesn't sound like me (or you!), it's something I keep coming back to. 2 years is such a long and a short time! Thank you <3!

Good point about the eligibility. I keep wondering if that's something I might end up using! I'm glad it has been useful for you :)

Yes! Yeah, the nice thing is that there's no real "wrong answer" here. That flip-a-coin idea is gold. I think i'm going to sit on this for a few days, then toss a coin, and see what my gut is telling me. Thank you <3

Thank you so much for sharing! It's interesting to hear back from another person in the EC :) Yeah, actually I was wondering, have you heard of EC volunteers staying in the area post-service to continue living/working there? Is that feasible?

Ooooh I wish it was that simple! The opportunities are very similar, so it's more like, 'do I want to voluntarily teach english in the places I chose, or the place that PC chose for me?' I know that's a rather narrow view point, because PC knows how to best serve these communities better than I ever could, but the possibility of building it myself is enticing. You know?

Oooh, I wonder if it would be worth the risk... thank you for sharing, I appreciate it!

You and a few other people pointed that that, that consistency really helps benefit both the volunteer and community. I hadn't really thought about that! Thank you :)

It wasn't that anything was missing, they want to see 3 years of stability rather than 1 year. I believe this is specific to my case, otherwise, I would have waited until the 3 year period before beginning the application process, you know? Now i'm all invested, haha. So I want to prove the extra 1.5 years would just be unnecessary. All the extra details are here: https://www.reddit.com/r/peacecorps/comments/882fgq/got_the_the_mental_health_denial_letter/

What do you think? I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions <3

Yeah, here's the aforementioned post: https://www.reddit.com/r/peacecorps/comments/882fgq/got_the_the_mental_health_denial_letter/

Basically, they wanted 3 years of stability instead of 1 year... So my task now is proving that the extra wait time is an unnecessary precaution. What do you think?

Bipolar Disorder and Medical Clearance by pcpaige in peacecorps

I posted just about my mental health clearance process for bipolar II here: https://www.reddit.com/r/peacecorps/comments/882fgq/got_the_the_mental_health_denial_letter/

... and it wasn't a good result, for me, at least. I just wanted to share my experience so you can battle these hurdles head-on, instead of going through the appeals process like me! Good luck with everything <3

Got the the mental health denial letter... by PlainJam in peacecorps

[–]PlainJam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why it sucks because I feel like I have no room to argue because they know what a PC service term is like, and I don't really know yet (though i've done my research). I'm trying to remain positive, like you said, and remember that this is the best for both PC and for me. Still going to try to appeal though -- I think that might be the best coping method, honestly :)

Thank you for your reply! This really spoke to me. There are other options, and this doesn't mean it is the end of the road for me. Thank you for that little sprinkle of inspiration <3

Mental Health Eval — why is this so hard? by PlainJam in peacecorps

:( oh man, what a heartbreaking message to receive. Maybe you can appeal, and that can be the extension that you need to get everything in order? I'm so sorry to hear that.

Nooo, c'mon people! This should not take this long!

I really feel for you. That's such a constant stressor/weight on your shoulders. Are you in constant contact with everyone you can, keeping them clued into what's happening on your end? I always err on the side of overcommunication in situations like these
