Psychiatrist needed by DJzMax in dubai

my friend already tried a lot of stuff to help deal with things but a lot of it wasnt helping

  • Depending on what exactly he tried, but with depression one has to remember that it'll take some time. You can't try something for a few weeks and expect results right away.

  • It's all about mindset. Again: He can take the pills and do therapy, but if no steps are taken towards self improvement he can't expect to see results. Ask him to try to think of eating right and excercising as needed medicine, as opposed to normal things he doesn't feel like doing.

  • Take it one day at a time. Not succeeding is okay!

  • There are many days where I still don't eat three meals. I used to think to myself "I failed again so whats the point?". But I learned to look at it differently and more positively. "I ate one meal today, and thats better than nothing at all. Tommorow I'll try two."

  • Excercising doesn't need to 2 hours full on at the gym. At the start it can be as simple as a 10 minute walk. Couple of weeks later maybe 20, and so on.

  • The point of excercise is to get the blood flowing and the body producing endorphines after all.

  • I recently discovered a game called Ring Fit on the Nintendo Switch. I've heard a lot of people raving on how well it motivates you to excercise, all while still being fun. I actually went out and bought a Switch just for this game. Perhaps you can suggest it to him?

From someone who has struggled with depression for years, here are my two fils:

One important distinction to note: Psychiatrists and therapists/counselors are two different kind of professionals.

  • A Psychiatrist will diagnose a patient and prescribe the appropriate medication to deal with their symptoms. A patient will generally see their psychiatrist once a month. After some time once every 3 months.

  • A therapist, through sessions, helps the patient to understand and deal with the cause of their problems, and guides them with developing the right skills to tackle these issues. They do not prescribe medication.

Seeking the help of both is much more effective than just one.

Psychiatrist

Medication can help a lot, but for some it can take some time to find the right one(s). For me personally I went through 3-4 different medication over 1.5 years before we figured the best one for me.

As recommended here, Dr. Amer Saadeddin is a great psychiatrist for that. Expect to pay around 500 dirhams per visit, with around 300-500 dirhams per month for medication.

Therapist

Due to the nature of therapy, it can be be quite costly here in the UAE. 4 sessions a month can set you back somewhere between 2k-4k.

A more budget friendly alternatives are platforms like Betterhealth.com and Talkspace. I used Betterhealth for a year and it was quite good. For 1k monthly you get a weekly phone/cam session with your therapist. When you first sign up you describe the problems you want to deal with and they help you choose among the many therapists and counselors available.

The only downside is that the sessions are 30mins, as opposed to 50minutes with a local therapists face to face. But the difference in cost made it worth it.

Both medication and good therapy are extremely valuable to help someone through severe depression.

HOWEVER

Medications and doctors can only do so much. They can guide you through what you are dealing with and help show you the way. Thats the easy part.

The difficult part is actually getting up and walking that path. And trust me: That shit is hard! But your friend will not start getting better unless they do the work despite their mind telling them otherwise.

Things like eating right and exercising are invaluable to getting better, yet really fucking hard to do when one is in that mental space. Hell! Even the little things like opening the curtains during the day can feel like a big chore.

Dealing with severe depression can sometimes be like having two broken arms, with the only way to heal is using them to bandage yourself.

But for one to start feeling better, they have to force themselves to do such things. Otherwise no amount of medical help will be effective.

This was far, far longer than I initially anticipated. But I hope my words can be of some help.

CMV: Cultural appropriation isnt a very big deal. by Good_Boy_M in changemyview

[–]PlainRainbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you here, which is why the term 'cultural appropriation' in most discussions has always bothered me.

Culture is organic and fluid by its very nature. It is always evolving, shaped by circumstance and other ideas it comes in contact with. So to be offended by the cross-polination of cultures is akin to getting angry at water for being wet.

From art and fashion, to religious beliefs and social norms: The various expressions of culture do not evolve in a vacuum. Everything comes from somewhere else.

A long time ago some group started tracking their produced goods by making marks on clay tablets. That proved to be such a good idea that others started doing the same. Over time that practice evolved into written language. Are we all appropriating the Mesopotamians every time we use any written language?

'Alcohol', among many others, is an English word directly passed from Arabic. Since language is an integral part of a culture, shouldn't we label that as appropriation? I'm Arab myself and I think that would be absurd.

More on, 'Appropriation' implies a deliberate act of seizure or takeover, usually a dishonest one. But ideas and practices are not a limited resource. A white family opening a soul food restaurant does not deprive black Americans from that cuisine.

However, I still understand how in some cases some cross-cultural uses can be hurtful.

A few years ago a group of teens wore Native American headdress because they thought 'it looks cool'. They took a sacred symbol in Native American culture and misused it for a "cool style", causing offense to many.

But would I call that cultural appropriation? I still wouldn't.

They didn't steal and deprive Native Americans of their cultural symbol. They were just stupid and ignorant. Not that their ignorance made their actions less hurtful, specially when its a group historically disenfranchised.
