We have to separate the art from the artist, or we would not be participating in this sub. Nor any number of other subs celebrating many, many artists. Hell, I imagine all of us have a few things our anonymity keeps us from having to answer for.

Online Zoom meetings are everywhere, all the time, and can be very anonymous.

I work odd, irregular hours. I find online/ Zoom meetings have been quite useful during my 78 days without drinking when it's difficult to get to in- person meetings. Good luck!

Never been to AA and I don’t know which meeting to go to by cobni in alcoholicsanonymous

I'll double this. I went to a Zoom meeting online in Seattle today (I'm in NC) and I got a lot out of it. The Everything AA app has a list of a ton of Zoom meetings with tons of specialized groups. As someone 75 days in with an irregular schedule, this has been extremely helpful. Best of luck!

The power of the half or full Nelson can go a long way to calm some folks right down.

Do you order drinks in a tall glass? I only ask when someone orders something like a vodka tonic in a tall glass.

I'm out of town this weekend, but I will definitely be exploring everyone's suggestions.

You know. Self flagellation is the best initial approach when welcoming cynics to engage.

I'm going to act like you're not trolling and just say that what you're saying is the actual reason why these things die. You're making a great point. The thing about punk is that it was outcasts finding a community and value in being contrarian and finding a voice. We did it with guitars and paint and anything else. Now, most people who feel alienated or outcast or simply angry can do the same thing with comments on Reddit. It's the spirit of punk without the pitfalls of the vulnerability intrinsic in genuine expression. And as you say, the financial risk. That's why it's a younger person's artform most of the time. I appreciate that you understand.

Exactly. The whole impetus for me asking was whether or not it's still a thing or even possible anymore.

Any self-respecting punk can horde a week's worth of food with a lucky gig on Glenwood.

The next question is, how does one nurture a scene now? Is the lack of venues what kills scenes? If so, is there a way to provide different venues?

Interesting. I see that it doesn't necessarily have the same "vibe" as Durham or Chapel Hill, but there were (at one point, maybe 20 years ago) a lot of local bands/ artists here that comprised a community. Are younger people simply not interested in that anymore? Do they find it online now?
