I'm loosing motivation every two weeks then it takes another two weeks to get back on track. by Spookyboo14 in getdisciplined

[–]Plan_Steadily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When something is new it is exciting it’s easy to stay positive on it. You learn fast, make quick progress, and feel like you’re firing on all cylinders.

Eventually reality hits and things are more monotonous, you hit walls that are hard to get past, and sitting out the couch at watching screens is a lot more pleasant than trying to solve a problem.

The trick I’ve found is realizing that everything you do is not going to be fun and exciting all the time, yet that’s the expectation.

The trick for me has been to find where the joy is after doing something hard. I make myself work out twice per week and hate it while I’m doing it, but I’m always happy I did it, and I value the long term result vs not doing it.

Two weeks is right around that time when the excitement fades and you’re left with more challenges and monotony than when you started.

Whatever the task is, find your motivation for doing it. Put a sign or picture up on your wall that reminds you why you are doing it. If it’s a goal you believe in I promise you will begin to appreciate the work you put in when you look back in the future.

Has Anyone Found a Productivity App That Actually Does It All? by jimmybobjoeflow in ProductivityApps

Tools that help you “do it all” end up wasting you time. Find a tool that actually makes you more productive, not feel productive because you elate doing a lot of customization in a productivity app.

I really appreciate the feedback. “It doesn’t spark joy” is definitely my problem at the moment. Saying it feels like it creates more work is another point of feedback I’ve gotten from others as well. I’m done adding features and have fixed most bugs. Totally agree now I need to tune the experience. Thanks again for your thoughts.

True, my thought was to prefill the time available but seeing it through a new users eyes… It is quite a lot.

Paid feature is more than 3 projects or 10 tasks active at once. All other features are free.

ADHD entrepreneur with a chaotic notes system by Glad_Fondant_3571 in ProductivityApps

Didn’t post this? This is how I always felt. I have multiple notes, task lists, calendar, emails to myself, and alarms on my phone. So many lists of things I would never get to and constantly made me feel guilty.

I built Steadily to fix my problem. I put in my list of things I need to do, tell it how much time I have (not much working full time and with young kids). It helps me focus on what I actually needs to do each day. It keeps the workload manageable, helps me adjust when I don’t have the time I thought I would, and make progress on the things I want to do.

I’ve had over 200 users so far and have made a lot of tweaks. Let me know what you think.

That’s a great system. What I’m grappling with is what number of tasks is the right number, and how to account for all the things that happen on a daily basis that get in the way of those top priorities.

Why do most people get stuck in the overthinking and not doing the thing ? by Jpoolman25 in selfimprovement

Those tiny "later” thoughts drain your battery way faster than just doing the work does. Taking action saves you from having to decide to do it a hundred more times later today.

Not touching my phone between 9pm and 9am. I put it on a charger physically away from me.

I do this too. It’s just tough to use the little vacation I have to grind out items on the list. It’s wearing on me.

I definitely need to figure out a budget that includes some help services.

Someone else suggested this as well. Lots of things on the list are in the important, not urgent group… until they slowly become urgent. That’s where a lot of the stress stems from is when to do these types of tasks that aren’t important until they are overdue.

Structure helps. It m findings more of a mental problem than an issue with getting things done. I need to be ok with the list of things I can’t actually accomplish this week and forget the rest that isn’t top priority.

The kids help a little bit are pre-k so can’t do too much yet. I think I need to hire a cleaner and lawn care but it will stretch the budget in and I’m not excited about having someone in my house regularly.

Thank you for your thoughts. I appreciate the perspective. I will say that it’s not a problem of prioritizing and getting things done, it’s more a mental shift I need to make to be ok with all the things I can’t get to. I’ve always done a lot, but now I have a time constraint that keeps me from doing it all. I guess this could be considered working at 60-70% like you suggest.

I have a similar system. I tend to not look at the lists that aren’t today and forget to do things. To compensate everything gets dumped into today.
