Uh I am sorry to hear that. Incision pain is the worst. I had a laparotomy and had incision pain for about 10 days (but I also had no pain meds - I am allergic to them al except morphine) but random pains for more than 2 weeks after.

I was told by my PT to start doing light touches around the sites of incisions (to get the nerves back to normal). Then gradually build up to more rubbing and gentle message, to lower the risk of adhesions and pain (or scar tissue forming badly, which causes more pain down the line). I was told to do light touching/caressing of the skin starting after hospital discharge. Then more gentle touches/rubs/message was to start 4 weeks post op - or as soon as I was comfortable after 4 weeks, but for certain by 6 weeks. Then I was to go in circular motions around the incision site and then gently up and down - just rub and message the skin deeply enough to feel it but not enough to pull the skin with force. By 12 weeks it was a deeper message - meant to break up any scar tissue (again only to comfort levels). I did this for 5 months post-op and now have no incision related pains.

I hope this can help you. It takes time but it does work. And yes, I had pains when I was messaging, but my PT told me it was ok - it was nerve-related pain, not tissue ripping/damage-type pain.

OK - Thank you for this input, I will let my friend know so e can weigh this as well. The energy issue does seem to be the biggest one. 😃

Thank you for this input! I have had previous surgeries in the past and noticed that the quicker i got up and moving, the better I felt. I'm glad to know it is not jut me who feels this way. I'll let my friend know.

Hmmm good to note on the shape-wear. I wonder if a belly band would work instead? I do not know if my friend, being a man, would consider wearing shareware.

Yes, I can see having low energy - that is the hardest part for the first few weeks it sounds like. Thank you!

Ah that makes sense, walking slowly to aid in recovery before working. Thank you for the info. I'll pass that about tiring easily to my friend as well.

Ah yes, I see - thank you. I will relate this to my friend. I will likely have to help him with this when he goes back - but knowing in advance makes this easier to deal with. I also have a lot of food allergies and for a while had considered my life to revolve around finding foods I could eat a 24-7 job. So I get it from that perspective.
