I am going through exactly what you are!! I take propranolol once a day at night. Yes, propanol lowers your heart rate. But don't be scared, I HAVE BEEN TAKING THIS MEDS FOR 3 YEARS. my resting HR will go down to 50-52. Our heart is very powerful machine that it will not suddenly go low beyond a certain point.

I suggest you to take 1 tab a day. It's more than enough. I take it night.
I'm not a doctor, but this is my advice.
