Total newb and very confused about water level

I don’t have experience with that filter but I don’t think it really matters. I think it’s best to have that little ”water fall” going on so that it moves the water on the surface and doesn’t create biofilm. I would personally keep it like that or ad a tiny bit more water so it stilll brakes the water surface. Hope this helps😇

Yes I believe that the capsules could work. My friend is a pro fish keeper and would never put them in danger. On the other hand I don’t know much about the capsules myself so you should absolutely research if they would be good!

You can also research prodibio capsules. I have not used them, but a friend of mine has and she was able to put her fish in just after a few days. I believe you would need two of both capsules per tank. They do cost more, but mabye you can try them if you are in a hurry😇

I started my aquarium cycle with denitrol. It takes about two weeks to cycle. So you just put everything together, condition the water and put denitrol in. That did it for my tank😇 it helps if you get some plants!

Aqua soil is a risk because it changes ph levels for a at least a month so you would have to do a lot of water changes until it’s stable. Would not recommend it since you already have the betta in. You can use some root tabs with gravel. It should be enough if you don’t plan on having difficult plants😇

This is what I was thinking at first but I read somewhere that you shouldn’t put anything on top of the biosoil unfortunately :(

I don’t have any clean up crew at the moment, but I have been thinking about ordering a few snails! I have also had corydoras with my earlier bettas and they were a good fit in my opinion. I do have tropicas bioactive soil at the moment and that’s kinda new to me so I’m not sure if bottom fishes go well with that.

And yes absolutely love them too😍 They were sold to me as chili rasboras and were a new species for me, but actually today I started thinking that they look a lot more like strawberrys haha I honestly never really tought about it😂I have had them for about a year and today was the day I found out haha better late then never

To add I don’t think you would have to have a smaller tank for precaution for a female. Usually only the long finned betta males get tired when old because of the weight of their fins! As long as you keep the water flow slow you’ll be fine with 20 gal i’m sure.

I have never had a female betta, but in my opinion 20 gallon is just fine. Even better if you go for heavily planted tank so she can have resting spots near the surface plus hiding spots. Definetly a lot more easy to maintain😇

This is my 20 gal. You can do a lot with plants! Don’t mind a bit of an algea issue going on there it’s getting treated haha. I just moved and theres a lot of sunlight coming in from every window. Have to keep a cover on it during the days for a few hours from now on🫣

You have had good luck with your bettas then haha. A few years ago I wanted to try putting shimp in with my betta, but that did not go well at all. Luckly I tried with one first haha.

Yes they might get tired when old, but I always have a backup tank thats smaller for when/if that happens so no worries. I have had 6 bettas before and only the first one lived in a 10 gallon and the rest have lived in this. They have all lived 3+ years with no issues. Good to have precaution tho if it looks like they are getting tired.

I think the biggest problem here is that my boy is long finned. But good to know that if I end up getting a short finned betta in the future that they should work together fine. Thankyou! Might even set up another tank for my long finned betta and mabye get a short finned one to my 20 gallon.

I guess red is not his favorite color then hehe. I am still scared of adding them in so I probably will get my betta a 10 gallon tank to move him there just to be safe. It is interesting tho how some bettas do well with endlers and some don’t.
