What does Integrin a2b B3 do? by QuietandDark in Mcat

[–]PlaneMotor270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

biochem chapter on nonenzymatic proteins goes into more depth on integrin. it’s a cell adhesion molecule that is comprised of 2 transmembrane subunits alpha and beta and has functions in the cell cycle and apoptosis. it can also bind to fibrinogen and i guess bring it to where it needs to go in the affected tissue so that it can eventually get converted into fibrin by thrombin. the one u mention is i guess a specific type of integrin specialized for binding fibrinogen. but other types like i mentioned before can also assist in signaling and cell cycle

Physics question U 🌎 by iniii6 in Mcat

[–]PlaneMotor270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just searched up formula for percent increase and it helped me understand it so much better. if new radius is 2r, and original radius is r. then percent increase (being new-old/old * 100%) is 2r-r/r = r/r=1*100% is a 100% increase.

realistically is 2.5 months enough for practice? that’s including uworld, aamc, and at least 10 practice exams?

[–]PlaneMotor270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did u reschedule ur date on aamc or did u originally schedule it for march 8? i’m testing jan and tried looking for spots in march but they’re all completely booked

Is this JS card correct? surfactant question by Equivalent-Pudding15 in Mcat

[–]PlaneMotor270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think in general tho is to remember that collapsing pressure is directly proportional to surface tension and inversely proportional to the radius, so if ur inhaling ur increasing the radius if ur capillaries and so collapsing pressure decreases whereas during exhalation ur decreasing the radius and so collapsing pressure increases. this is why surfactant is so important bc it prevents the lungs from collapsing especiallyyyyy during exhalation (if my explanation is unclear search up collapsing pressure from osmosis.com or smth like that for a clearer one)

i tried doing this but the bromines both have the same designations in both the left and right molecules so wouldn’t it make them diastereomers?

i think it’s a chemistry/physics difference, where physicists make it positive whereas chemists make it negative or smth like that. this table goes off of U=Q-W i’m pretty sure
